Michigan football lands 4-star CB over Penn State, Texas A&M
Despite their lackluster 2024 season, few teams have been better in the 2025 college football recruiting market than Michigan. Continuing their recent trend, the Wolverines added four-star cornerback Dorian Barney to their class of 2026 defensive lineup.

Barney committed to Michigan on Saturday, Rivals' Hayes Fawcett reported. The highly touted cornerback chose Sherrone Moore's squad over offers from Georgia, Penn State, Texas A&M, and Georgia Tech.
As a native of Carrollton, Georgia, he strongly considered offers from his home-state schools but selected the Wolverines, where he believes he will 'succeed in every way possible.'
Barney is the latest addition to Michigan's stellar 2026 recruiting class. The group is currently ranked as the ninth-best recruiting class in the country by 247 Sports and On3 Sports. While they have yet to add a five-star prospect, the Wolverines have already received verbal commitments from 12 four-stars.
After Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL and took most of the coaching staff with him, Michigan endured a moderately successful rebuild year in 2024. However, with five-star super prospect Bryce Underwood expected to bring stability back to the offense, the Wolverines' 2025 outlook is already back on track for another title.

With Dorian Barney now in the mix, the excitement is already building for Michigan's two upcoming seasons. The Wolverines' fan base already expects a return to Big Ten title contention with the crop of talent Moore has amassed in the offseason.
Thus far, Michigan's 2025 recruiting focus seems to be on its defense. Moore received commitments from seven four-star defenders, including Barney.
Defensive end Carter Meadows, a consensus Top 10 edge rusher of the class, headlines the group and continues to rise. The Wolverines annually boast an elite defensive line, and Meadows seems to be their next big star up front.

Moore's incoming recruits also include a swarm of offensive talent, including four-star wideout Zion Robinson and four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel. Robinson and Smigiel are both viewed as Top 10 prospects at their position with ESPN rating the latter as its fourth-best pocket passer of 2026.
Coming off a strong end to the 2024 season, Michigan has high expectations to meet in the 2025 college football season. The adjustment period seems to be over with fans now expecting Moore to maintain the powerhouse program that Harbaugh rebuilt at the end of his tenure.

He spent eight seasons with Orlando before joining the Lakers on his first of three stints with the team. Howard also played for the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers. Howard, who has not publicly discussed the divorce filing, is in the middle of his first season with Ice Cube's BIG3 League. Trade Proposal: Byron Buxton To Phillies For Andrew Painter And Justin Crawford
It's that time of year when trade winds (and rumors galore) whip through the MLB with gale-force power, and a big one whipping around the Philadelphia Phillies is a potential deal for Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton. ESPN writer David Schoenfield tossed up the Buxton-to-Philly brainstorm, but to what cost to the Phils? How about losing two big-time prospects, Andrew Painter and Justin Crawford? Take a Zen breath, Phillies fans, the deal hasn't happened yet. The Phillies have been linked to the Twins' Byron Buxton. (Photo by) Indeed, it sounds insane to trade the gem of the farm system (Painter) and a potential everyday center fielder (Crawford) for the frequently injured 31-year-old Buxton. However, Buxton wields the impact bat Philly's wishy-washy lineup needs. He's belted 20 home runs with a .879 OPS in 73 games this year while being on pace for a career high in WAR. The former Gold Glover winner plays a sparkling center field, doing stuff like this: And maybe the biggest plus for Buxton is that he's (miraculously) stayed healthy this season, leading to him being named to the AL All-Star team for the second time in his career. Buxton would be a tremendous upgrade over Philly's mediocre centerfield tandem of Brandon Marsh and Johan Rojas. As Schoenfield noted, 'Centerfield has been a soft spot in recent seasons, with the Phillies in the bottom third in the majors in OPS this year, and the team's overall power output has been below average, even with Kyle Schwarber. Adding Buxton adds more pop to the middle of the order." There's also this: Getting Buxton would likely cause a domino-effect trade in which the Phils would deal Marsh or left fielder Max Kepler. But that's for Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski to decide. Schoenfield says Dombrowski knows 'how to go all-in,' and this may be the last chance to do so with the Phillies' aging core on a quest to get to one more World Series. Adding Buxton would improve those chances. Schoenfield admits that 'trading Painter would be painful' but the Phils' deep rotation would allow for such a bold move. Painter is currently at Triple-A, where he's been 'good but not great,' according to Dombrowski. But nobody denies the kid has ace-level stuff. Take a gander here: Unbelievably, the sticking point to the trade may not be the Philliess. Even though they are under .500, the Twins may not be quick to deal Buxton, whose team-friendly contract has him signed through 2028 and earning $15.1 million per season. But let's be honest: If Painter is on the table, it's an offer that would be tough to turn down. And if the Phils throw in Crawford, it would be a done deal.
