Nine Inch Nails Play Live Rarities at Tour Kickoff in Dublin

Yahoo16-06-2025
Nine Inch Nails kicked off their Peel It Back Tour in Dublin with a selection of tracks the band haven't played live in a decade or more. The trek this summer is their first in three years.
During their Sunday evening show, Nine Inch Nails kicked off their concert with Trent Reznor performing With Teeth cut 'Right Where It Belongs' solo on the piano. It was the first time sine 2009 that he's played the song live, and it turned into a medley with The Fragile track 'Somewhat Damaged.'

With the full band on stage, they began reworked versions of 'Ruiner' and 'Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now),' both of which have not been played in 16 years. With opening act Boys Noize later in the show, they did Year Zero's 'Vessel,' Hesitation Marks single 'Came Back Haunted' and the How to Destroy Angels track 'Parasite.' All three songs had also been off the set list for many years.
Of course, Nine Inch Nails' featured a number of their massive, arena-worthy hits alongside these deep cuts and live rarities. The band tore though songs like 'Wish,' 'March of the Pigs,' and 'Closer' as well as a cover of David Bowie's 'I'm Afraid of Americans.'
Nine Inch Nails' last album releases were Ghosts V: Locusts and Ghosts VI: Together, a pair of albums released in 2020. They last toured in 2022. Reznor and bandmate Atticus Ross, who joined the band officially in 2016, have been pretty focused on their successful and popular movie scores. Last year, they worked with Luca Guadagnino twice, providing original music for his films Queer and Challengers. Their current touring opening act Boys Noize released a remix album of the Challengers score.

‘Tron: Ares' Just Brought the Grid Back to San Diego Comic-Con

In the pantheon of cool Hall H moments at San Diego Comic-Con, the reveal that Disney was returning to the world of Tron is right near the top. Sneaking into a 2008 panel about Race to Witch Mountain, Disney randomly showed proof-of-concept footage announcing that Tron 2, later called Tron Legacy, would be coming in a few years, and the place went mad. Since that moment, Tron and Comic-Con have shared a fun history, with Legacy's team even recording audio for the film in Hall H a few years later. All of which is to say, when the third Tron film, Tron: Ares, was announced for Comic-Con, it had a lot to live up to. That's especially the case considering the studio dropped a brand-new trailer days before the convention. So what was in store for the biggest room in pop culture? Well, lots of cast to start. That included stars Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson. Lots of lights, as red lasers crisscrossed the entirety of Hall H for long sections of the. And lots of loud Nine Inch Nails music, as they are scoring the film. The panel was a visual delight, centered on two action-packed clips from the film itself. The first was a lightcycle chase in the real world. Dillinger (Peters) summons Ares (Leto) and Athena (Turner-Smith) from the Grid to capture Eve (Greta Lee). They can only exist in our world for 30 minutes before dying (or de-ressing, in Tron speak), so they have to be quick. Which they are. Eve is just minding her business driving around when Ares and Athena bolt through some vast mountain roads toward the city. Somehow, tapping into the city's cameras and stuff, they are able to locate Eve without even seeing her. Eventually, they catch up, and she has to do what she can to escape. Eve is a human, though, so she can be a little more cunning than the programs. She drives into a circular parking garage, hides, and when Athena slowly drives by, she sends her motorcycle at her, smashing her over a ledge. However, when she looks down, Athena is gone. She's already up and running back around the garage. Without a bike or car, Eve looks around and sees… the lightcycle. She somehow starts it up, sits down, and it engulfs her just in time to escape before Athena reaches her. The clip ended with her speeding off. The second clip saw Eve go onto the Grid itself. She's floating in some kind of water until Ares grabs her out. He unveils a lightcycle jetski and takes off on a digital river. Eve puts her hand in it and realizes it's all just bytes, not real water, even though it acts like it. Athena sends drones after the pair as we realize Ares has gone against his programming and against Dillinger, and is now helping Eve. It's an epic chase both below the digital water and above it, against the drones, until Eve finally agrees to help Ares. The two make it to the transport portal, which should send them to the real world, and the scene cuts out. I have to say, while both of these scenes looked amazing and each was set to absolutely incredible new music by Nine Inch Nails, something was just… off about them. There was just a certain energy that was missing even though it looked and sounded incredible. Maybe it was because we didn't have any context? Because as happy as everyone on the panels seemed to be about being at Comic-Con, none of them said anything about the movie itself. There was some chatter in the clips about some code everyone is fighting over? What is that about? What role does Jeff Bridges play? Where's Sam Flynn and Quorra? Who even is Eve, and what is Dillinger up to? Nothing. Even so, with only a few months left until the October 10 release of Tron: Ares, we are still ready to get back to the Grid. What about you? People Are Sharing The TV Shows And Movies That Spurred Their Sexual Awakening, And I Can't Help But Giggle

We recently asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us about the TV show, movie, or other piece of media they consider responsible for their sexual awakening. Some of the results really made me giggle. Here's what folks revealed: 1."The Hex Girls. Dusk, the angsty drummer, just did something for me." —monikap6 2."Val Kilmer as Madmartigan in Willow. The hair, the declaration of love to Sorsha, holding Princess Elora Danan…Top shelf Daikini, that one." —luxahoy 3."Leah Remini on The King of Queens. She's still gorgeous, but in those early seasons, she was my first celebrity crush, and I realized what I wanted my wife to look like even when I was just a child. Now, that's still my type." —edgysealion411 4."David Bowie in Labyrinth. I'm sure I really don't have to say much more than that." —padawanryan 5."The Bangles' video for 'Walk Like an Egyptian' was the first time I remember getting the tingle feeling. Susanna Hoffs' eyes and Debbi Peterson dancing with the tambourine. It still gets me!" —theplunger10 6."Alan Rickman in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. And Alan Rickman in anything else. But that was the start." —pastelbutterfly37 7."Possibly a bit weird, but Lola Bunny in Space Jam has to be up there. The eyes, the voice, the athleticism were —Anonymous 8."Catherine Zeta-Jones and Antonio Banderas in The Mask of Zorro. Especially when they spar in the stable and he slices off her clothes!" —Anonymous 9."Vanilla Ice, when he first came on the scene." —pepperopigeon 10."I must have been about 10 when I watched The Thorn Birds. I tried to watch it anytime it came on, just so I could watch Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward slow burn until they finally had sex. That was the only thing I cared about through the whole movie!" —ssstege11573 11."Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Both the horse and Little Creek. But I think mostly Spirit and Rain's 'romance' really did it for me." —Anonymous 12."The Rocky Horror Picture Show exposed me to bisexuality AND introduced me to Tim Curry. Perfection!" —Anonymous 13."Walking past Le Senza in the mall (I'm Canadian) had me wanting to kiss girls, so I was then pretty confused when Don Juan DeMarco came out and got me wanting to kiss boys. Turns out, I'm bi!" —Anonymous 14."The Phantom of the Opera film." —Anonymous 15."I saw the movie Hellraiser at a slumber party when I was around 13, and DID NOT expect the wild sexual energy that this movie has. In retrospect, it's a pretty well-known fact that Hellraiser explores a lot of pain/pleasure dynamics, but at the time, I was just really confused about why this random horror movie was making me feel so many THINGS. Also, I had an immediate hard crush on both Pinhead AND Kirsty, so there's the added bonus of realizing I was bi." —mcrivellokhan 16."Jasmine and Aladdin kissing on the magic carpet." —Anonymous 17."I was watching Hackers with Angelina Jolie. She was so tough, cool, and sexy. I didn't even notice the guys in that movie. My fiancé commented on her beauty and then tried to pressure me into a threesome with another woman. I said I'd rather break up with him and just date a girl like Angelina. I still think about her in that film in ways I never think of my ex. That's when I knew I was not only bisexual, but also not into assholes." —Anonymous 18."Jacob Black from New Moon. To this day, I'm still Team Jacob. Those abs, man, SWOON!" —Anonymous 19."Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic." —Anonymous 20."It was an early TV show called T.H.E. Cat. The leading man was a handsome cat burglar and wore lots of black turtlenecks and black leather gloves and was always tying up bad guys. I wanted him to tie me up because it made me feel funny. I found out later that the leading man was Robert Loggia, who was the 'dancing boss' in Big." —Anonymous 21."Seeing Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully in The X-Files being a badass medical doctor and even more badass FBI agent when women in male fields weren't nearly as common. She was sassy, smart, and a bad bitch! She is also still one of the hottest women alive. Scully forever!" —Anonymous 22."Watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 3, with Eliza Dushku as Faith. I already knew I was straight and attracted to women, but seeing Faith kick ass in leather pants cemented the type of woman I'm interested in. And I am now married to one." —Anonymous 23."Jim from Treasure Planet. At the start of the movie, when he's flying on the hoverboard, something about the ponytail and ear piercing had me obsessed for years." —Anonymous 24."Elvira: Mistress of the Dark." —Anonymous 25."'Cecilia' by Simon & Garfunkel has a line, 'Making love in the afternoon with Cecelia up in my bedroom.' As a 12-year-old, I was shocked to learn that people had sex during the day. Everything I had been told up until then said it was a nighttime affair." —Anonymous 26."Star Trek: Voyager. Jeri Ryan joined the cast just before my 12th birthday. That was the first time I felt the stirrings of sexual attraction. No nudity, no sex scenes. Just a beautiful woman in a suggestively tight body suit. That was the first twinge." —Anonymous "Sting semi-naked in Dune. Lean but a little muscular guys are still my type!" —Anonymous What do you think is responsible for your sexual awakening? Was it a suggestive movie scene? A swoon-worthy TV character? 'Tron: Ares' brings the Grid, light cycles and Nine Inch Nails soundtrack, to Comic-Con

SAN DIEGO -- The Grid took over Comic-Con on Friday, bringing the stars of the new 'Tron: Ares' films to unveil footage and reveal the story behind the franchise's third movie. The film stars Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee and Jodie Turner-Smith as the story brings the virtual environment of the Grid, complete with light cylces, into the real world. Disney showed off several minutes of footage, including a light cycle chase scene in the real world and another in the red-hued Grid. Propelling the onscreen action is a propulsive Nine Inch Nails soundtrack. 'It's fun to see it on the big screen for the first time,' said director Joachim Rønning. Disney turned the Hall H panel into a spectacle, with red lasers filling the room and characters in suits with red lights entering the massive hall. Asked what excited her about joining the 'Tron' franchise, Lee responded: 'I just wanted to ride a light cycle.' Leto spoke affectionately about the original saying: 'This movie just grabbed a hold of me and took me to a place that I'd never been before. It kind of rattled my imagination and it kind of showed me what was possible in the world.' He praised Bridges and Steven Lisberger, who created 'Tron' and directed the 1982 original. Lisberger attended Friday's panel and laid out his case for why the franchise remains relevant. 'My feeling about 'Tron' is that the most important thing is we kick this technology around artistically before it kicks us around,' Lisberger said. 'I am weary about hearing all the grim news about the future,' he said, and the way he thinks it can be avoided is to 'inspire young people what can be done with this technology.' Friday's panel ended with the premiere of the music video for "As Alive as You Need Me to Be," the first Nine Inch Nails song from the soundtrack. 'Tron' has never been in the top tier of sci-fi franchises. The original 1982 film starring Bridges as Kevin Flynn, a man sucked into a computer vortex known as the Grid, was admired for its ground-breaking concept and effects, and was a modest hit with moderately good reviews. Perhaps more importantly, it won a cult following and has been maintained enough in cultural memory to remain a valuable property for Disney. The 2010 film 'Tron: Legacy,' starring Bridges and Garrett Hedlund, made more than $400 million globally. A TV show that followed, 'Tron: Uprising,' lasted just one season. Rønning has helmed other Disney franchise films: 2017's 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' and 2019's 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.' The Norweigan director said he was interested because he dreamed about making a sci-fi film and enjoyed the twist of 'Ares' bringing the Grid into the real world.
