Projects under 15th Finance Commission should be completed on time: Ajit Pawar

Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday directed officials of various departments to ensure a timely and high-quality completion of all projects initiated under the 15th Finance Commission. At the review meeting, Pawar said, 'The state is receiving full support from the central government for these projects. All plans have been designed considering the requirements of the next century. Departments must coordinate closely and ensure that every rupee from the Finance Commission is utilised before the end of the current financial year, and not a single rupee is returned.' Deputy CM Pawar assured the state government's full support in removing any hurdles but emphasised that all projects must be completed within the timeline and meet high-quality standards. Senior officials from the departments of Finance, Planning, Urban Development, Tourism, Public Health, Forest, and Public Works attended the meeting. Earlier on Monday, Ajit Pawar presented supplementary demands worth Rs 57,509.71 crore for the financial year 2025-26 on the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Legislature. This came amid reported constraints over the availability of adequate funds due to the ballooning fiscal and revenue deficits and mounting public debt. Of the Rs 57,509.71 crore, the allocation of Rs 19,183.85 crore has been made for committed expenditure and the balance is to provide funds for various government programmes and also towards the state government's contribution in the implementation of Central government schemes. SAT directs OPG to deposit ₹2.5 crore, stays Sebi's ₹85 crore order

The Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) has directed OPG Securities to deposit Rs 2.5 crore, while staying the recovery of a total disgorgement amount of Rs 85.25 crore ordered by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi). The tribunal's order, dated June 30, states: 'There shall be a stay of recovery of the disgorgement amount pursuant to the impugned order, subject to the appellants depositing a sum of Rs 2.5 crore within four weeks from today, subject to the outcome of this appeal. Sebi shall place the same in an interest-bearing account.' The matter has been admitted by the tribunal, which has directed Sebi to file its response. The recent order pertains only to the recovery amount. In April 2019, the market regulator had directed disgorgement of Rs 15.57 crore against the firm. OPG Securities had earlier deposited Rs 7.5 crore, which was half of the initial disgorgement amount. In the National Stock Exchange (NSE) co-location matter, OPG was alleged to have gained an unfair advantage by accessing the secondary server of the stock exchange and making unlawful gains. In a fresh order, Sebi revised the disgorgement amount to Rs 85.25 crore. The counsel for OPG argued that there could be no increase in the disgorgement amount after remand. The tribunal noted that this was a peculiar case in which Sebi had conducted further investigation covering a different and longer period, on the basis of which a fresh show-cause notice was issued. The SAT order states: 'In view of the undisputed fact that the appellants have subjected themselves and participated in the second round of litigation fully, in our view, they are not entitled to a blanket stay order.'

Amazon India's Prime Day returns on July 12-14 with 72-hour mega sale

Amazon India has announced that its annual Prime Day sale will take place from July 12 to July 14 this year. The 72-hour event, available exclusively to Prime members, will feature discounts across a broad range of categories, including smartphones, consumer electronics, home appliances, fashion and household essentials. The sale, which begins at midnight on July 12, will also include promotions on Amazon-branded devices and entertainment content accessible through the platform. Customers using ICICI Bank credit and debit cards, as well as SBI credit cards, will be eligible for additional discounts, including 10 per cent savings on select transactions, according to the company. The sale will offer up to 40 per cent off on smartphones and accessories, with added incentives such as instant bank discounts, no-cost EMI plans of up to 24 months, and exchange offers valued at up to Rs 60,000. Deals will also be available on flagship models including the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5G, iPhone 15 and OnePlus 13s. The event will feature discounts of up to 65 per cent on home appliances from brands including LG, Samsung, Haier, Godrej and Carrier. Shoppers can also access exchange benefits of up to Rs 17,000 and coupon discounts of up to Rs 5,000 on energy-efficient models. Amazon India will offer discounts ranging from 50 to 80 per cent on more than 500,000 products in its fashion and beauty categories during Prime Day. The sale includes apparel, footwear, cosmetics, jewellery, watches and luggage. Amazon India recently stated that Prime Day 2025 would run for three days for the first time—up from the usual two days. Members will gain an additional 24 hours to shop across major brands and small businesses. The expansion from 48 hours to 72 hours reflects Amazon India's accelerating push to grow its Prime membership base in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, with a clear shift in adoption beyond traditional metropolitan strongholds. In a recent interview, Akshay Sahi, director, Prime, deliveries and returns for India and emerging markets, emphasised the widening geographic footprint of Prime, noting that last Prime Day, the firm had over 60 per cent of sign-ups coming from cities outside the top 20. This shift has been supported by targeted investments in Amazon's logistics network. The company recently announced it will invest more than Rs 2,000 crore in India in 2025 as it strengthens its logistics and safety standards. Last year's Prime Day marked Amazon India's biggest ever, with a 24 per cent increase in Prime member participation and record sign-ups, highlighting growing demand across the country.
