What's Going on With Cardi B and WWE 'SummerSlam 2025?'
One initial plan for WWE "SummerSlam 2025" might be up in the air.
The stars of WWE are set to perform at MetLife Stadium for a two-night PLE. The annual event has several marquee matches booked. An undisputed WWE Championship rematch between John Cena and Cody Rhodes figures to receive top billing on night two. There will also be a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between titleholder Gunther and CM Punk.
When WWE first announced the venue for "SummerSlam, the company also revealed that music star Cardi B will serve as the guest host for the weekend. In recent weeks, no mention has been made of the popular rapper's appearance at the show. Fightful reached out to WWE in an attempt to get clarification on Cardi B's status for "SummerSlam," but the outlet hasn't heard back.
Cardi B has long expressed her desire to be a part of a WWE show, so it came as little surprise that she was penciled in to host a PLE. The question now is, have plans changed since the initial announcement?
"SummerSlam" will be taking place on Aug. 2 and 3. In addition to the aforementioned world title matches, the women's division of both "Raw" and "SmackDown" will have its top prizes at stake. After successfully cashing in her MITB briefcase at the conclusion of "Evolution," WWE Women's World Champion Naomi will defend her gold against Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match.
WWE Women's Champion Tiffany Stratton also knows who her next challenger will be. Queen of the Ring winner Jade Cargill will step up to challenge "Tiffy Time." The winner won't have to worry about a post-match cash-in.This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 16, 2025, where it first appeared.

CM Punk Explains Why He's Reluctant To Embrace WWE: Unreal
CM Punk reacts to Netflix's upcoming WWE: Unreal docuseries. Netflix is set to premiere WWE: Unreal on July 29, 2025. The new docuseries will pull back the curtain on WWE, giving fans access to the inner workings of the company. Taking fans from the writer's room to major events like WrestleMania and Royal Rumble, the series aims to reveal how iconic storylines come to life. During an appearance on Unsportsmanlike with Evan Cohen, Chris Canty, and Michelle Smallmon, CM Punk shared his perspective on the show. He acknowledged that he's not the ideal person to promote it, noting how he's always tried to protect the magic of the business. CM Punk has mixed feelings about WWE: Unreal 'I'm probably the wrong guy to put on this show to try and talk it up. It is not that I'm so much against it. It's that my entire existence in my profession, professional wrestling, you're taught and you're brought up, and you're old school, you protect the business. It's always been that way. Since the 1920s or 1930s, everyone knew that wrestling was predetermined. They talk about how they didn't know, and how in the 1980s we just kind of blew it wide open. And now we're exposing the business. If you're living under a rock, you don't know, but most people do know. 'What this show is going to do is just show us backstage in our environment, interacting with each other. That's really for the fans. You see it all the time with football shows like Hard Knocks. That's a big one. You're in the room, you're seeing the special teams, Xs and Os, and the relationships between the coaches and players and families. That's sort of what we're doing. We're following suit in a way. It's just really strange, for me at least, because I've always been taught you protect the business, you don't let the insiders in.' In ‘WWE: Unreal' Trailer, It Sure Sounds Like CM Punk Has Sh** Himself in the Ring Before
Phil 'CM Punk' Brooks kind of shit the bed in his brief mixed-martial arts stint (0-1-1) between WWE residencies. Now, it sounds like he may have also shit the ring — or at least his ring gear — in his long and illustrious pro-wrestling career. In the trailer for Netflix's new and upcoming reality show WWE: Unreal (below), Punk asks fellow WWE Superstar Charlotte Flair if she's 'ever shit' herself in the ring. The answer is a no, but with the quick caveat that if she had, she wouldn't admit to it. The daughter of the legendary 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair 'may have peed' herself 'a little,' she offered. In addition to those two, WWE: Unreal will feature Triple H, Cody Rhodes, John Cena, Rhea Ripley, Jey Uso, Bianca Belair, Chelsea Green and Xavier Woods. The series has a five-episode season order, with each episode clocking in at 50-minutes long. The series premieres on July 29.
