Akhilesh Yadav Condemns Hair-Cutting Incident, Questions UP Government's Response
Political tensions have escalated in Uttar Pradesh following controversial incidents involving storytellers in Etawah district, prompting Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav to launch a scathing attack against the state government on Thursday. The former Chief Minister delivered sharp criticism during a press conference in Lucknow, questioning the administration's handling of the situation and its implications for India's international reputation.
Akhilesh Yadav expressed outrage over reports that a 16-year-old storyteller had his hair forcibly cut during the incident, describing the act as deeply humiliating and questioning the state government's failure to prevent such occurrences. The SP leader repeatedly emphasized the traumatic nature of the assault, stating that having one's hair cut against their will would be devastating for any individual, particularly someone so young.
During his address, Akhilesh Yadav directly challenged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership, asking why the state's top official appeared to be "sleeping" while such incidents unfolded. He criticized the timing of the government's response, suggesting that authorities failed to act when their intervention was most needed, allowing the situation to deteriorate and storytellers to face continued harassment throughout the night.
The SP President raised concerns about India's global image, questioning what kind of "Vishwa Guru" or world teacher the country could claim to be when such incidents occur within its borders. He suggested that international observers, including global leaders, would be watching how India handles such matters, potentially affecting the nation's reputation on the world stage.
In a particularly pointed comment, Akhilesh Yadav referenced former US President Donald Trump, speculating about the international reaction if news of the Etawah incident reached global leaders. He implied that such knowledge could have significant diplomatic consequences, emphasizing the need for the state government to address these issues more effectively to maintain India's standing in the international community.
The controversy has its roots in ongoing tensions involving storytellers in the Etawah region, with reports suggesting a pattern of harassment and assault against individuals from the community. Akhilesh Yadav drew parallels to previous incidents, mentioning a case in Mahoba where a married Dalit family faced humiliation over footwear-related issues, suggesting a broader pattern of social discrimination and administrative failure.
The situation intensified on Thursday when members of the Ahir Regiment and Yadav organizations staged a demonstration outside Bakewar police station in Etawah. The protesters demanded the release of Gagan Yadav and called for action against those responsible for the assault on storytellers. The demonstration turned violent with reports of stone pelting and gunfire, highlighting the escalating tensions surrounding the incident.
The protesters blocked roads and created significant disruption, reflecting the community's anger over the treatment of storytellers and the perceived inadequate response from law enforcement agencies. The confrontation at the police station underscores the depth of resentment among community members and their determination to seek justice for the alleged victims.
Akhilesh Yadav emphasized his commitment to constitutional principles during his criticism, contrasting his approach with what he portrayed as the state government's failure to uphold law and order. He questioned why such incidents continue to occur under the current administration, suggesting systematic failures in protecting vulnerable communities and maintaining social harmony.
The SP leader's reference to the Chief Minister's early morning routine appeared to be a pointed jab at Yogi Adityanath's well-known habit of starting his day at 4 AM, implying that despite his early rising, the CM failed to address the nighttime harassment of storytellers in Etawah. This criticism highlights the political nature of the dispute and the opposition's strategy to hold the ruling party accountable for law and order issues across the state.

Anomalies in land acquisition for Gorakhpur corridor: SP chief
Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday alleged irregularities in the acquisition of land for the heritage corridor being built in Gorakhpur. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, he demanded that the land compensation for the heritage corridor be determined based on market value rather than consent-based agreements. The SP chief alleged that "govt is forcibly getting traders and residents to sign the consent letter by putting pressure through the administration and police so that they do not have to pay more compensation." "If the people of Gorakhpur speak up and reveal the secrets, then instead of a heritage (virasat) corridor, a custody (hirasat) corridor will have to be built there," he said. Akhilesh claimed there were irregularities in land acquisition for other heritage projects also due to which the BJP had to face electoral reverses in these areas. "This is not just about one district, but the whole state. In this game, a few BJP leaders benefit while the public is being cheated," he said. He said this was the reason why "BJP lost in Ayodhya and narrowly escaped defeat in Varanasi in LS polls. Now it's the turn of Mathura and Gorakhpur". The SP chief alleged that BJP workers, in the presence of police, blocked roads and threw eggs and stones at vehicles of an SP delegation that went to Gorakhpur on June 25. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The anime RPG everyone's talking about is finally free! Akhilesh has lost his mental balance: Swatantra Dev Singh
Lucknow: In a strong rebuttal to SP chief's allegations on Gorakhpur corridor, UP cabinet minister Swatantra Dev Singh said Akhilesh Yadav has completely lost his mental balance. "It's been eight years since he has been out of govt, yet he still cannot accept it. His statements are now driven by frustration and agitation rather than facts. Spreading lies, creating confusion, and questioning democratic institutions have become a permanent part of his political behaviour," said Singh. Terming Akhilesh's charges as malicious, Singh said those who once associated Gorakhpur with mafia and backwardness are now obstructing the city's cultural and physical development out of fear. Projects like AIIMS, the Fertilizer Plant, Ramgarhtal rejuvenation, and the Gorakhpur Link Expressway have made Gorakhpur a symbol of the renaissance in Purvanchal, he said, adding that Gorkahpur Corridor will elevate local tourism, employment, and global recognition. Saying that Akhilesh's statement on compensation was an insult to farmers and traders, the minister clarified that land acquisition for the corridor was done with complete transparency under the supervision of the high court, and the affected individuals were provided fair compensation at market value. Responding to questions about the Gorakhpur and Jhansi Metro projects, Swatantra Dev Singh remarked that those who couldn't even operate a trolley during their tenure are now questioning the progress of these projects. The Yogi government completed the Lucknow Metro on time, launched the Kanpur Metro, and is now swiftly advancing the Gorakhpur-Jhansi Metro, Singh said. Singh mocked SP's land grab policy, saying that those who protected land mafia with slogans like 'Socialism means empty plots are ours' are now lecturing on ethics regarding land acquisition.

Those who once bowed before mafias now trying to divide society along caste lines: Adityanath slams Opposition
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday again targeted the opposition for doing 'caste-based' politics. Adityanath also reiterated the slogan, 'Batoge toh katoge, ek rahoge toh nek rahoge (Divided we fall).' He was addressing an event here on the eve of 'Bhamashah Jayanti' and 'Vyapari Kalyan Diwas'. The CM accused certain political elements of resorting to 'caste divisions' for survival, saying, 'Those who once bowed before mafias and mortgaged power are now trying to divide society along caste lines.' He added, 'Earlier, they extorted money in the name of jobs. Now, they are trying to divide society in the name of caste. That is why I say—'Batoge toh katoge, ek rahoge toh nek rahoge.'' He called upon society to rise above caste divisions and embrace the ideals of Bhamashah, the legendary figure known for his patriotism, sacrifice and support to Maharana Pratap. Adityanath mentioned how Baroda's King Sayajirao Gaekwad awarded a scholarship to Dr BR Ambedkar for higher education abroad. 'Where was caste in these acts of support?' He highlighted that in 2016, a trader was murdered in Lucknow and a jeweller was shot in Sultanpur — incidents that occurred under the then government, which 'provided shelter to criminals.' He said that under his administration, the security of both traders and women has been treated as paramount. 'We made it clear that anyone who endangers their safety will face strict consequences…,' he remarked. He added that when action was taken against miscreants, those who once thrived on caste-based politics began shedding crocodile tears. The Chief Minister instructed the GST department to organise annual felicitation ceremonies for the top 10 GST-paying traders in the state capital and the top 10 in each district. He also announced that any GST-paying trader who suffers an accident will be given Rs 10 lakh in assistance from the government on this day. He urged traders to join the government's efforts for environmental protection. 'River rejuvenation and plantation drives are ongoing in every district. Traders and business organisations should actively participate,' he urged.
