Kota MADANI In Precinct 19 Not 'Second Putrajaya'

Barnama25-06-2025
PUTRAJAYA, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Kota MADANI development project, which is slated to be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tomorrow, is not the "Second Putrajaya' as claimed by certain parties, said Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud.
Instead, it is part of the existing Putrajaya development master plan, he said.
He added that the project is a continuation of the implementation of the Putrajaya project, which was outlined previously, involving the division of the area into 20 main precincts covering a total of 4,931 hectares.
"We stress that the development of this Kota MADANI is at Precinct 19, and it is situated inside the 4,931-hectare area of Putrajaya. Only that the context of the Precint 19 development, namely Kota MADANI, is in the form of compact development.
"For context, we have named Precinct 19 as Kota MADANI. We also have developers using a different name for marketing purposes. But Kota MADANI is situated in Precinct 19 of Putrajaya. That needs to be clarified, and it is not another Putrajaya,' he told Bernama and RTM here today.
He also explained that compact development is a concept that enables various facilities, such as residences, schools, commercial spaces and public facilities to be built nearby within an area, thus reducing the need to travel far.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa has also taken to social media to explain that the Kota MADANI project is not a waste of public funds.
She stressed that the project is being developed through a public-private collaboration by Putrajaya Holdings using the Build-Lease-Maintain-Transfer (BLMT) concept, with the RM4 billion cost of development fully borne by the developer.
"The developer will also bear the maintenance cost and, after 25 years, this whole project will belong to the government,' she said.

PM announcement signals policy shift towards more inclusive approach for M40, say experts

KUALA LUMPUR: The announcement of several key initiatives by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday, as a gesture of appreciation to the people, reflects a policy shift by the Madani government towards a more inclusive approach for the middle-income group (M40). Senior Political Science Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi MARA Mujibu Abd Muis said the one-off RM100 cash assistance under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme, the postponement of toll rate hikes for 10 highways and the targeted RON95 subsidy could be seen as part of the government's broader efforts to extend social safety nets for groups that had long viewed themselves as marginalised. "The attention given to the B40 was necessary due to pressing needs, but the reality is that the M40 group is also grappling with the post-pandemic economic burden, particularly the rising cost of living, inflation and loan commitments,' he told Bernama. Mujibu said while the RM100 cash aid and lower RON95 fuel price might not have completely changed the M40 group's perception, it was a clear indication that the government was not turning a blind eye to their plight. "In a climate where inflation, the prices of goods and the lack of affordable housing remain key concerns, any form of assistance, even if it is a one-off, can help boost confidence in the government's fiscal policies. "The M40 requires more than just cash aid; tax relief, education subsidies for their children, affordable housing and efficient public transport are also crucial,' he said, suggesting that aid be based on actual needs rather than gross income alone. Associate Professor Dr Mazlan Ali of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) opined that the Prime Minister's announcement signalled the government's move to give more attention to the middle-income earners who were often seen as self-reliant but were equally affected by the rising cost of living. "The M40 may not qualify for the same assistance as the B40, but they still have to deal with many expenses just to survive,' he said. Mazlan said the comprehensive initiative announced reflected the government's concern in addressing the grievances of the M40 group and could help change their negative perception of government policies. In addition, he said the initiative could stimulate the domestic economy by boosting household spending, thereby supporting local sectors, including tourism. Meanwhile, 38-year-old trader Mohd Syafiq Hazman said the move provided some relief for middle-income families, who he felt were often not given due attention by the government. "It may not be much, but RM100 can go a long way for a family of four or five in easing kitchen or fuel expenses. It shows the government is aware of our struggles,' he said.- Bernama

MyCIEDS system enhances transparency in Malaysia import-export docs

JOHOR BAHRU: The Malaysian Customs Import and Export Supporting Document System (MyCIEDS) is set to improve transparency and prevent data leaks in import-export documentation. The system also aims to uphold the integrity of customs officers and forwarding agents. Customs deputy director-general Norlela Ismail explained that once documents are uploaded, officers process them based solely on the displayed data. 'We're seeing results beyond our initial targets. During our engagements with agents, the feedback has been very positive,' she said after launching the system for the Southern Zone. Customs director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin highlighted that MyCIEDS facilitates document sharing between customs officers and forwarding agents for each Customs Form submitted. She noted that the system is crucial for Malaysia's trade governance and competitiveness. 'By moving to paperless, the system expedites processes, increases government revenue, and delivers a stronger economic impact,' she said. Since its phased rollout in January, over 1,350 companies and agents nationwide have registered as MyCIEDS users. - Bernama

People-centric initiatives boost MSME sector in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Recent government measures aimed at easing financial burdens on Malaysians are expected to provide significant relief to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcements include continued fuel subsidies for RON95 at RM1.99 per litre and a postponement of toll rate increases on 10 major highways. Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick highlighted the direct benefits for MSMEs, particularly those reliant on transportation and logistics. 'Many businesses, especially in rural areas, depend on travel between urban and rural locations for sourcing materials and product deliveries. These measures will help reduce operational costs,' he said during an interview on Bernama Radio's Reaksi segment. Additional support comes in the form of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme, which provides a one-off RM100 cash aid to Malaysians aged 18 and above. The government has also increased funding for the MADANI Rahmah Sales initiative, aimed at stimulating domestic spending. Ewon encouraged Malaysians to take advantage of the newly announced public holiday on September 15, coinciding with Malaysia Day, by exploring local tourism. 'Support rural tourism and cooperative-run destinations. There is immense potential in our local economy waiting to be tapped,' he said. The ministry is actively promoting cooperative-based tourism, with events like the National Cooperative Day celebration in Melaka running from tomorrow until Sunday. - Bernama
