Border officers found 161 bricks of cocaine in a truck at the Ambassador Bridge: CBSA
A Richmond Hill truck driver has been charged after border agents found a 161 bricks of suspected cocaine in a commercial truck trying to enter Canada at the Ambassador Bridge, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says. The agency says officers at the Windsor-Detroit bridge found 187.5 kilograms, worth about $23.4 million, stuffed into two suitcases and five garbage bags. This happened on May 23, 2025. Officers arrested the 55-year-old driver and transferred him to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He's charged with importing cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. "The ongoing efforts of our border services officers to intercept narcotics and weapons is to be commended," said Michael Prosia, regional director general of the CBSA's southern Ontario region, in a media release. The agency issued that media release Tuesday along with a link to a federal plan to strengthen border security and the immigration system.

Vancouver airport hijacking suspect Shaheer Cassim makes video court appearance

Shaheer Cassim appeared on Tuesday via video link, dressed in an orange prison outfit and speaking only his name when asked by the judge. An agent for Cassim's defence lawyer Kevin Westell told the court that more time was needed and scheduled his next appearance for July 29. Cassim will remain in custody in the meantime at a pretrial centre in Surrey. He faces charges of hijacking and interference with the operation of an airport that could endanger the safety of an aircraft in flight. The 39-year-old former commercial pilot was arrested July 15 after allegedly taking a plane from the Victoria International Airport before flying it to Vancouver's airport where the aircraft was met by police upon landing. Float plane tips upside down in Winnipeg River

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Darryl Dyck No one was injured after a float plane tipped upside down in the Winnipeg River. Manitoba RCMP first learned of the incident around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. When officers got to the scene they were informed the pilot, who was the only one in the plane, landed safely. However, the right float went underwater while he was taxiing to shore. The pilot, a 27-year-old man from Snow Lake, was able to escape before the float plane tipped upside down. In a statement, the Transportation Safety Board said it has not yet sent investigators to the scene but is continuing to gather evidence. It said the incident will be classified as a Class 5 occurrence, meaning it is not subject to comprehensive investigation followed by a report. The investigation continues.
