Mother of Education Minister honoured with Saidina Abu Bakar As-Siddiq award
IPOH: Datin Dr Siti Zalikhah Md Nor, mother of Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, was posthumously awarded the Saidina Abu Bakar As-Siddiq award during the Perak Maal Hijrah celebrations. The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, presented the honour to Fadhlina.
Siti Zalikhah passed away on June 16, 2024, at Serdang Hospital at the age of 75. Born in Perak, she was a respected figure in Islamic scholarship, serving on the Syariah Review Panel under the National Fatwa Council and the Haj Advisory Committee by Tabung Haji. A syariah lawyer with expertise in Islamic family law, she was also a prolific writer and translator of works by prominent Islamic scholars.
Religious personality Sharifah Khasif Fadzillah Syed Badiuzzaman was named the 1447H Maal Hijrah Personality. Both recipients received RM15,000, an umrah package worth RM9,000, a plaque, and a certificate.
Additional awards included the Siti Khadijah award (Woman Personality) to Robiah Kulop Hamzah, the Saidina Ali (Youth Personality) award to Muhammad Firdaus Mohamad Suki, and the Asnaf Icon award to Norzita Hamid.
Masjid Nurussalam in Gerik received the Al-Quba' award for Best Mosque Management, while Masjid Asy-Syakirin's Muslim Cemetery in Parit Buntar was honoured with the Al-Baqi' Award for Best Muslim Cemetery Management. Each received RM5,000, a plaque, and a certificate.
A Special Award was presented to 18-year-old Rafaa Ahmad Muneer, a hafizah and public speaking champion, who received RM5,000, a laptop, a plaque, and a certificate.
In Shah Alam, Selangor Royal Council member Tengku Seri Wangsa Diraja Datuk Ramli Tengku Shahruddin Shah was named Selangor Maal Hijrah Personality, receiving RM20,000, a certificate, and a plaque.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Law, State-Federal Relations and MA63) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali made the call when officiating the closing ceremony of the Festival Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M at Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak here today. 'I urge all Muslims, especially in Sarawak, to continue supporting mosque-organised programmes. 'Let us be part of the movement to enliven the House of Allah, making the mosque a point of reference for the community and a centre for welfare and dakwah (Islamic propagation),' she said in her speech. The closing ceremony marked the conclusion of the 10-day festival, organised by Lembaga Amanah Kebajikan Masjid Negeri Sarawak (LAKMNS), which began on June 20. The ceremony was officiated with the symbolic lowering of the official festival flag. Representing the Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, who was away on official duty in Russia, Sharifah Hasidah conveyed his congratulations and appreciation to LAKMNS for the successful organisation of the festival. 'This festival not only highlights the role of mosques but also strengthens bonds among people from various walks of life through programmes blending information and entertainment,' she added. According to her, the festival is clear proof that LAKMNS is at the forefront in managing and modernising mosque institutions through dynamic and innovative approaches that are aligned with the evolving needs of the ummah. 'LAKMNS' continuous efforts to uplift the welfare of the ummah through various mosque and community development initiatives are commendable. 'This reflects a holistic approach encompassing spiritual, social, educational and welfare aspects, making the mosque a true institution for empowerment,' she said. 'This is a forward-looking step, not only in terms of modern Islamic architecture but also in supporting environmental sustainability and green energy initiatives,' she said, describing the initiative as positioning the mosque as a sustainable development agent. She said such efforts reflect the visionary leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also chairman of LAKMNS and continues to advocate for development rooted in universal Islamic values. She also reminded the audience of the importance of mosques beyond a place of worship. 'As we welcome the new Hijrah year, it is timely for us to reinforce the mosque's role not only as a place of prayer but also as a centre for knowledge, moral development, and unity among the ummah across all backgrounds,' she said. Citing the Prophet Muhammad SAW's actions upon arriving in Madinah, she noted that building a mosque was among his first steps, signifying the mosque's centrality in early Islamic civilisation. 'The mosque is the heart of ummah development, serving as a spiritual centre, a platform for the dissemination of knowledge, and a hub for strengthening brotherhood,' she said. 300 Asnaf In Beserah Receive Food Aid Worth RM60,000
KUANTAN, June 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 300 asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) in Beserah received food baskets worth RM60,000 in conjunction with the Indera Mahkota Al-Falah MADANI Carnival 2025 today. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said his department also contributed RM100,000 in Musa'adah assistance to 17 religious institutions in Pahang, in addition to 10,000 school bags and supplies for students statewide. He said the carnival, organised by the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), successfully met its objectives by fostering harmony and strengthening community ties. Expanding education to Sabah's rural areas

Its Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, said Sabah remains a priority in the implementation of national education policies and reforms. 'We are committed to addressing issues of access and ensuring no student is left behind,' she said, after attending the 69th anniversary celebration of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Saturday. She said the Ministry is working closely with Ministry of Defence (Mindef) to expand educational access in the interior through a special programme in the state. 'A programme known as ProKhas has been launched in Kg Serudong Laut, Tawau, under Mindef's Jiwa Murni initiative. We're collaborating with Mindef to build a school in Kg Serudong Laut. This joint commitment aims to develop educational facilities in the area with full involvement from the local community,' she explained. Although the construction of the school is still in the planning stage, she said learning sessions have already begun to prevent children from falling behind. 'Reading classes are being conducted by a rotation of teachers provided by the Sabah State Education Department (JPNS). 'During our visit, around 20 to 30 pupils were already attending classes. We are now gathering data to determine the full number of students, with the aim of ensuring consistent attendance. The numbers are expected to increase over time,' she added. Fadhlina also expressed pride in Sabah's recent academic achievements in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination. 'More than 146 students in Sabah scored a perfect CGPA of 4.0, this is a clear testament to the success of the education reforms we have put in place.
