Sacked MLA Kanwarlal Meena petitions Guv Bagde for pardon

after he was awarded a three-year jail sentence for pointing a gun at an SDM in a 20-year-old case, former BJP legislatior Kanwarlal Meena has appealed to Governor Haribhau Bagde for pardon.
The governor's office has now sought a report from the govt on Meena's petition.
Meena's membership of the legislature may be reinstated, and his sentence suspended or commuted on the governor's recommendation. As per Article 161 of the Constitution of India, Governor of a state has the power to grant pardons, reprieves, respites or remissions of punishment, or commute the sentence of any person convicted of any offence.
Meena, former BJP MLA from the Anta seat in Baran, was awarded a three year sentence in a 20-year-old case in which he pointed a gun at an SDM in Aklera during panchayat bypolls. The sentence was upheld by both the
Rajasthan High Court
and Supreme Court. He surrendered before Aklera Court and was sent to jail. Following persistent protests by the political opposition and sanction from Speaker Vasudev Devnani, his membership of Rajasthan Assembly was finally terminated on May 23 this year.
A close confidante of former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje, Meena's petition has now led Jhalawar SP to request opinion from the Aklera police station.
Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, however, protested the BJP's bid to "save" Meena, calling the governor's intervention in the matter as reflection of the "true face of BJP, pretending to be protectors of democracy".
"A path is being paved to pardon the dismissed BJP MLA through the Governor. Is such a pardon ever granted to a common person, or is this privilege reserved only for BJP members? " Jully asked.

BJP leaders visit Hassan, urge State govt. to identify illegal immigrants from Bangaldesh
A team of BJP leaders, led by former Minister Aravind Limbavali, visited parts of Hassan district, on Thursday, urged the State government to identify illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and send them back to their native place. Mr. Limbavali, speaking to presspersons at Varepura in Alur taluk, said that he and his party colleagues had launched a campaign against illegal immigrants in the State. A war room was opened three months ago, and the staff at the room received over 2,500 complaints from different places. 'We have reports that there are many illegal migrants from Bangladesh settled in Bengaluru, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Vijayapura districts. They have got fake Aadhar cards. Because of them, the local plantation workers are suffering without job,' he said. The former Minister said that he would share the information collected from local people with the State and Central governments. 'The police have ample information about the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. They need to act immediately. The Election Commission (EC) has said that many illegal immigrants have enrolled their names in the voters' list in Bihar. The EC may conduct a drive to revise the voters' list in Karnataka too in the coming days,' he said. Former Minister Kumar Bangarappa, who was also part of the team, stated that the Aadhar card should be linked to the family tree of every individual. 'If the family tree is linked to the Aadhar card, it will be easy to trace every individual's background. We will place this demand before the Central government,' he added. BJP MLA B.P. Harish, party leader N.R. Santosh, and others were present. The team visited coffee estates and interacted with planters and plantation workers.
