Pat McAfee supports Rory McIlroy blowing off the media: ‘Tell them to kiss your ass'
'I'm going to say this to Rory: Rory, I love everything you're doing,' McAfee said Wednesday on ESPN's 'The Pat McAfee Show. 'You walk up to the media and tell them to kiss your ass. You do whatever you need to do, buddy. It is great whenever you're playing incredible golf. If you need to take some time, you need to take some time.'
In the wake of his win at the Masters in April, McIlroy has found himself at odds with the media in the following months over his unwillingness to speak at certain points.

The 36-year-old golfer was sharply criticized for skipping out on media availability after he struggled at the PGA Championship in May, a decision he doubled down on ahead of the RBC Canadian Open in early June.
McIlroy justified avoiding the media by calling his time at the PGA Championship a 'weird week,' while also citing frustrations about a leak that his driver had been deemed nonconforming.
He also noted that the PGA Tour doesn't require its golfers to speak to the media, unlike the NBA, NFL and MLB.

McAfee doesn't believe the golfer should have to explain himself.
'S–t, I just took some time, I am taking some time from WWE,' said McAfee, who is a color commentator on 'Raw' and has wrestled for the promotion. 'You mentally get to a place where you're kind of exhausted and things like that. So if that's what happened to Rory or if that's going on with Rory or it was happening with Rory and he's on the other side — Rory, we just want to let you know, we love when you're golfing good. And I love that people hate you. I think that is a good thing for sport, not a bad thing for sport.'
After placing second in the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick last weekend, McIlroy is now competing for another major title at The Open Championship, which is being held at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in his home country of Northern Ireland.

Funny enough, he would label the strength of the team being the quarterbacks in Jackson and saying that Cooper Rush is a 'solid backup,' while a weakness for the team is the guard spots on the offensive line. 'Lamar Jackson, an All-Pro in each of the past two seasons and the NFL MVP in 2019 and 2023, is one of the best in the business,' Clay wrote. 'He fell just short of his second consecutive MVP last season even though he led the league in QBR (77.3) and produced career-high marks in passing yards (4,172) and passing touchdowns (41, the second most in the league).' 'New year, same 'weakness' for a roster that is otherwise pretty stacked,' Clay continued. 'On the left side, Patrick Mekari is out and will be replaced by Andrew Vorhees, Ben Cleveland, or perhaps a rookie. Daniel Faalele returns on the right side after underwhelming as a run blocker and ranking among the worst in the league in run block win rate (71.8%).' ESPN explains why the Eagles are under the Ravens While the Ravens prepare for training camp, the team that rivals them as the top team in the league, according to ESPN, is the Eagles, who dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. As for their strengths, Clay would have offensive tackle, which makes sense since the team's offensive line is one of the best units every season, whereas edge rusher is a weakness for Philadelphia. 'The defending champs have many strengths, but it's tough to beat arguably the league's top tackle duo, with Jordan Mailata manning the left side and Lane Johnson on the right,' Clay wrote. 'Mailata ranked among the top tackles in PFF grade, pass block win rate, and run block win rate in both 2023 and 2024. Johnson is 35 years old but hasn't lost a step, ranking top 10 among tackles in pass and run block win rate last season.' 'Josh Sweat (free agency), Brandon Graham (retirement) and Bryce Huff (trade) are all gone, leaving Nolan Smith Jr. as the only established player on the depth chart,' Clay continued about the team's weakness. 'Smith is likely to be joined in the starting lineup by 2024 third-rounder Jalyx Hunt, who was a solid backup as a rookie.' Lu Dort vouches for Montreal to have an NBA expansion team
As the calendar nears August, the NBA has hit its driest part of the year. The offseason is mostly settled. Teams head to vacation for the last two months before they get back on the grind for the 2025-26 season. After winning the NBA championship, the Oklahoma City Thunder will enter next season as the favorite to repeat. But before they can do that, players are scattered throughout the globe. It's that time of the year when everybody heads back home and relaxes a little. For Lu Dort, that means going back to Montreal, Québec, Canada. He played a key role in the Thunder's championship run. He was tasked to defend the opposition's best scorers. He also stepped up on the other end as he shot 34.3% from 3 on 6.1 attempts in the playoffs. When you win the Larry O'Brien trophy, you get the entire summer to flex your bragging rights. In Dort's case, that means showing how he could be the perfect 3-and-D starter on an NBA champion. After going undrafted in 2019, he's had one of OKC's better developmental success stories into one of the top defenders. Now that Dort is back home in Montreal, he's had a chance to reflect on the Thunder's championship journey. He also pushed the agenda that his home city is good enough to have its own NBA franchise. The 26-year-old has never been shy about his roots. As NBA Commissioner Adam Silver poured cold water over expansion talks at the Summer League, Dort recently campaigned that Montreal is capable of having an NBA franchise. You always hear about Seattle and Las Vegas. Rarely about Montreal. The Toronto Raptors are Canada's sole NBA team. "I would say the talent and the audience definitely. I think there's a lot of people in Montreal that loves basketball. Talent, we have so many kids from Montreal that plays in high school now. That plays in college. A lot of them in the NBA as well," Dort said. "I really think it's possible. I'll see if it happens one day. I'll see if I'll be involved in that one day. It's to see but I feel like it could definitely feel like it could happen one day." Of course, Montreal has hosted NBA games before. They hosted the Thunder and Dort in a 2023-24 preseason game against the Detroit Pistons. There was an appetite for NBA basketball back then that's only grown over time. Dort has done his part to make that known. "I'm telling them like, 'Guys, Montreal is a nice city and I'm pretty sure the NBA would love to have a team there,'" Dort said. "Sometimes, whenever I get the chance to speak on it, I'll do it." Considering Silver slowed down the talks of an NBA expansion, it'll be a while before Montreal can place its bid. That said, he didn't rule it out. It's been the talk around the league for a decade. While everybody else around the sport is ready to add a couple of more teams, the NBA itself might not be.
