TUNIS: Kuwaiti Paralympic champion Faisal Sorour won the gold medal on Tuesday, in the shot put 'F42' event, while fellow Kuwaiti athlete Dhari Bati claimed the silver medal in the discus throw 'F37' event. Meanwhile, Kuwaiti athlete Nasser Faraj qualified for the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, to be held in India in September, as part of the conclusion of the second day of the Tunis International Para Athletics Meeting, which took place at the Rades Olympic City from June 16 to 18. Nasser Al-Ajmi, head of the Kuwaiti delegation, congratulated the athletes and extended his thanks to the technical staff led by coach Ahmad Al-Harbi for their efforts in improving the athletes' performance. He also praised the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Paralympic Committee and the management of the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club for their ongoing support of para athletics, urging the athletes to continue working hard to raise Kuwait's flag in regional, international, and global competitions. Faisal Sorour had also won a gold medal on Monday in the discus throw event during the first day of the tournament.
Al-Ajmi affirmed that the Kuwaiti Para Athletics Team is fully prepared for the championship, noting that all athletes are in excellent physical and technical condition after undergoing intensive training in recent weeks. He expressed confidence in their ability to represent Kuwait in the best possible way. The Kuwaiti national team is participating in the tournament with nine athletes: Faisal Sorour, Dhari Bati, Abdullah Al-Saif, Abdullah Al-Enezi, Nasser Faraj, Khaled Al-Rashidi, Abdullah Al-Saleh, Mohammed Al-Azmi and Abdullah Al-Uthaina. This year's edition of the meeting has set a new record in terms of participation, with 500 male and female athletes competing in various disciplines. — KUNA

KUWAIT CITY, July 21: The Arab Volleyball Federation has announced the participation of 10 national teams in the 17th Arab Junior Volleyball Championship (for players born in 2007), scheduled to take place in Amman, Jordan, from August 14 to 26. The participating countries are: Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, and host nation Jordan. The tournament draw will be conducted today at 6:00 PM at the Arab Volleyball Federation headquarters in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and will be broadcast live online via the Microsoft Teams platform. The Kuwaiti team continues its local preparations for the championship. The team is expected to hold an external training camp either at the end of this month or in early August, before departing for Jordan. Meanwhile, the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Volleyball Association has appointed Mohammed Abdul Razzaq as head coach of the national team, supported by assistant coach Mishaal Al-Sabti and team administrator Abdullah Al-Rais.

Qadsiya and Kuwait national team swimmer Al-Tarmoom claimed the gold medal after setting a new Kuwaiti record in the 50-meter breaststroke event with 00:28:21 seconds. The race, which began Friday and continues through Tuesday, features swimmers representing various Arab countries. General Manager of the Water Games at Qadsiya Club Faisal Abu Al-Hassan described Al-Tarmoom's outstanding performance as a new achievement for the sport in Kuwait. Al-Hassan expressed hope for continued victories to raise the name of Kuwait high in various international events, affirming support for athletes to achieve further accomplishments.
