Kuwait Disabled Sports Club wins West Asia Club Championship

AMMAN, July 19 (KUNA): The Kuwait Disabled Sports Club's wheelchair basketball team has been crowned champion of the West Asian Clubs Cup after a dominant 74–35 victory over Jordan's Ajyal Al-Ghad in the final held recently in Amman. Minister of Social Affairs and State Minister for Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, extended her congratulations to the team, hailing the triumph as a reflection of the strong will and determination of Kuwaiti athletes. She noted that the achievement enhances Kuwait's image in regional and international sporting arenas and showcases the nation's commitment to inclusion and excellence. Dr. Al-Huwailah expressed deep appreciation for the efforts of the players, coaching staff, and administrators, stating that such success would not have been possible without the steadfast support of the country's wise leadership and their continuous care for people with disabilities in all fields. 'This victory is a source of pride for Kuwait and adds a new milestone to the country's sporting history,' she said, wishing the team continued success in future competitions. Club President Shafi Al-Hajri dedicated the win to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah, and the people of Kuwait. 'I congratulate all our players for this outstanding achievement,' Al-Hajri said. 'They showed true determination and delivered top-level performances throughout the tournament, winning every match to secure the title.' He also praised the technical and administrative staff, highlighting the contribution of head coach Hossam Ibrahim, who has led the team's development over the past decade. 'Coach Hossam has played a crucial role in elevating the team's technical and physical standards,' Al-Hajri added.

Kuwait's Sorour, Bati win medals at Athletics Grand Prix

Faisal Sorour TUNIS: Kuwaiti Paralympic champion Faisal Sorour won the gold medal on Tuesday, in the shot put 'F42' event, while fellow Kuwaiti athlete Dhari Bati claimed the silver medal in the discus throw 'F37' event. Meanwhile, Kuwaiti athlete Nasser Faraj qualified for the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, to be held in India in September, as part of the conclusion of the second day of the Tunis International Para Athletics Meeting, which took place at the Rades Olympic City from June 16 to 18. Nasser Al-Ajmi, head of the Kuwaiti delegation, congratulated the athletes and extended his thanks to the technical staff led by coach Ahmad Al-Harbi for their efforts in improving the athletes' performance. He also praised the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Paralympic Committee and the management of the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club for their ongoing support of para athletics, urging the athletes to continue working hard to raise Kuwait's flag in regional, international, and global competitions. Faisal Sorour had also won a gold medal on Monday in the discus throw event during the first day of the tournament. Al-Ajmi affirmed that the Kuwaiti Para Athletics Team is fully prepared for the championship, noting that all athletes are in excellent physical and technical condition after undergoing intensive training in recent weeks. He expressed confidence in their ability to represent Kuwait in the best possible way. The Kuwaiti national team is participating in the tournament with nine athletes: Faisal Sorour, Dhari Bati, Abdullah Al-Saif, Abdullah Al-Enezi, Nasser Faraj, Khaled Al-Rashidi, Abdullah Al-Saleh, Mohammed Al-Azmi and Abdullah Al-Uthaina. This year's edition of the meeting has set a new record in terms of participation, with 500 male and female athletes competing in various disciplines. — KUNA
