Last season, the Florida Gators put the bow on an incredible 36-4 season with their third national title victory in program history.

Florida deployed an elite three-man backcourt, two two-way forwards, and a massive 6-foot-11, 245-pound center, dominating opponents with an unstoppable offense and clutch defense. With the Gators being a prevailing force, head coach Todd Golden did not need the towering 7-foot-9 presence of freshman center Olivier Rioux.
Although Rioux did not make his Gators debut last year, he will have an opportunity to compete this summer in meaningful basketball. According to Kevin Brockway of the Gainesville Sun, Rioux will participate in the FIBA U19 World Cup, which begins this weekend.

A Canadian-born center, Rioux will contend in his fifth straight summer games. Last year in the U18 Americas, his team earned the bronze medal. He scored 4.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

His most impressive international performance came during the 2021 FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship in Mexico, where he helped Canada win a bronze medal by averaging 8.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
The expectation is for Rioux to compete for playing time with Florida next season after his developmental redshirt season. Florida will return starting center Rueben Chinyelu, but the big often struggled with foul trouble. Alex Condon can also play center, but often found himself used in the four-spot alongside Chinyelu.
However, fellow centers Micah Handlogten and Viktor Mikic are expected to return to Gainesville, making the center position a spot of deep depth for head coach Todd Golden.

Analyst Predicts Will Howard's Role with Steelers

Analyst Predicts Will Howard's Role with Steelers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason after a long and arduous courting process. They also drafted Ohio State's Will Howard in the sixth round of this year's NFL Draft. Advertisement Rodgers is 41 years old and has an extensive injury history recently, but Howard is inexperienced and raw. Which one wins the starting job? Of course, that's a ridiculous question. Rodgers will start 2025 under center, or he wouldn't have signed with the Steelers. But that doesn't mean he'll finish it. Barring another injury to the 10-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro, ESPN's Mike Tannenbaum believes it'll take until December before Howard overtakes Rodgers as the starter. "Will Howard will be starting for the Pittsburgh Steelers by December 1," he said on 'Get Up'. "Will Howard led Ohio State to the national championship, 89 QBR, 35 touchdown passes. And if he was a little bit better in the offseason before the draft, he could have been a third or a fourth-round pick." Advertisement Howard isn't your typical college quarterback transitioning to the NFL. He played in 50 games, threw for 9,796 yards and 83 touchdowns. He has more experience than most who enter the NFL as rookies. Tannenbaum also thinks Rodgers' age has a little something to do with him losing the starting role next year. "Aaron Rodgers is an all-time great, but he will be 42 in December," he said. "Last year, Pittsburgh gave up sacks at the 28th-highest rate, meaning they were not very good at protecting the passer. So when you have a 42-year-old quarterback, no offseason program, an offensive line that should, in fairness, be better because Troy Fautanu is coming back, I think Will Howard has a meaningful chance to be the quarterback of the future." Victor Wembanyama Makes Tough Personal Decision

Victor Wembanyama Makes Tough Personal Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Last summer, one of the most thrilling sports moments was Victor Wembanyama making his debut for team France and nearly stealing the gold medal from the Americans on his home court at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Advertisement While EuroBasket is not the same as the Olympics, it is still a major FIBA tournament, and the French are expected to defend the dominance they laid out last summer. Unfortunately, Wembanyama is yet to resume full-contact basketball drills, and even with his return imminent, he will not suit up for Les Bleus this summer. As much as fans would like to see him play earlier than the start of the regular season, the Spurs can take a sigh of relief knowing that their superstar is willing to take things slow when needed. "Returning to team training? I think we're very close to that, yes," RC Buford told Le Parisien. Advertisement Wembanyama has been seen this summer playing soccer, doing kung-fu, and playing in pickup games around the world, although he has yet to start formal drills with the Spurs. However, his travel does suggest that his deep vein thrombosis is in the rearview mirror, and now he simply needs to get back into shape. Just by looking at photos he's posted of his travels, he appears to have added both muscle and weight, much to the delight of fans. The French National Team will have their hands full without Wembanyama, and Rudy Gobert dropping out does not help. It is expected that Washington Wizards forward Bilal Coulibaly will play a bigger role for the French. Check out the Inside the Spurs home page for more news, analysis, and must-read articles. Red Sox Could Deal Alex Bregman Under One Condition Before MLB Trade Deadline

Red Sox Could Deal Alex Bregman Under One Condition Before MLB Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox need to have a plan at the trade deadline, as there are multiple ways the front office could go. Most importantly, they have a tough decision to make with Alex Bregman. Advertisement While Bregman has been on the IL for quite some time now, and it still remains uncertain when he'll exactly return, there's no debating that he's a great player and should be wanted in Boston for a very long time. However, because he's getting up there in age, he likely will want a five-plus-year deal for big money and much more, it remains uncertain what the Red Sox want to do. According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, there's a chance that the Red Sox could move on from him, but only under one condition: if they don't sign him to an extension before the deadline. Mandatory Credit: Daniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images Daniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images 'This was another shocking name to me, but some execs believe the Red Sox could move on from Bregman at the trade deadline if they can't extend him by then,' Bowden wrote. Advertisement 'Bregman and his agent, Scott Boras, have told the Red Sox they are open to signing a long-term extension now. But if the two sides can't work out a deal, don't be surprised if Boston trades him to either the Tigers or Mariners at the trade deadline.' If the Red Sox were playing better right now, signing Bregman would make more sense. Of course, the injury has to be factored in, but they know what they're going to get out of the star. The goal is to win beyond this season, so why not keep him around? This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 4, 2025, where it first appeared.
