Victor Wembanyama Makes Tough Personal Decision
Last summer, one of the most thrilling sports moments was Victor Wembanyama making his debut for team France and nearly stealing the gold medal from the Americans on his home court at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

While EuroBasket is not the same as the Olympics, it is still a major FIBA tournament, and the French are expected to defend the dominance they laid out last summer.
Unfortunately, Wembanyama is yet to resume full-contact basketball drills, and even with his return imminent, he will not suit up for Les Bleus this summer.
As much as fans would like to see him play earlier than the start of the regular season, the Spurs can take a sigh of relief knowing that their superstar is willing to take things slow when needed.
"Returning to team training? I think we're very close to that, yes," RC Buford told Le Parisien.

Wembanyama has been seen this summer playing soccer, doing kung-fu, and playing in pickup games around the world, although he has yet to start formal drills with the Spurs. However, his travel does suggest that his deep vein thrombosis is in the rearview mirror, and now he simply needs to get back into shape.
Just by looking at photos he's posted of his travels, he appears to have added both muscle and weight, much to the delight of fans.
The French National Team will have their hands full without Wembanyama, and Rudy Gobert dropping out does not help. It is expected that Washington Wizards forward Bilal Coulibaly will play a bigger role for the French.

Fever Player on Temporary Leave Draws 'Problem' Statement From FIBA AmeriCup
Fever Player on Temporary Leave Draws 'Problem' Statement From FIBA AmeriCup originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever will be without Caitlin Clark yet again on Saturday when they return to action in a home game against the Los Angeles Sparks. This is after the 23-year-old guard was unable to recover from her lingering groin injury in time, thereby forcing her to miss her fifth consecutive game. Advertisement Apart from Clark, Indiana will also be missing the services of veteran center-forward Damiris Dantas for Saturday's game as the 32-year-old continues to be away from the team. Dantas' contract with the Fever has been suspended as she represents Brazil in the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile. The Sparks game will be Dantas' fourth missed contest amid her international obligations. Damiris Dantas of the Indiana Fever shoots the ball against a Seattle Storm defender. Christine Tannous/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Dantas and Brazil were in action on Friday in the quarterfinal of the tournament against Mexico. They made easy work of their opponents, 84-61, en route to booking their spot in the semifinal. Dantas went off again on Friday, registering 24 points on 10-of-23 shooting, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two triples in 34 minutes of action. Advertisement Her strong performance drew a reaction from FIBA AmeriCup on social media. "Damiris is a PROBLEM," FIBA AmeriCup declared on Instagram. View the original article to see embedded media. It wasn't just Dantas who dominated against Mexico, though. Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso was actually the driving force for Brazil in this one with a monster 22-point, 16-rebound double-double. Brazil remains undefeated in the tournament after five games played, and is now just two wins away from winning the championship. They will return to the court on Saturday for their semifinal matchup against Argentina.
