The Hindu09-06-2025
As part of a State-wide crackdown on Non-Duty Paid Liquor (NDPL), Excise officials have seized 73 liquor bottles across multiple locations and arrested four individuals for smuggling and illegal possession of liquor and drugs.
In Hyderabad, 56 bottles of liquor worth around ₹2.5 lakh were confiscated in three separate incidents. In one case, a man was caught near the Secunderabad Military Hospital in Trimulgherry with 20 bottles of whisky.
Further, as officials from the State Task Force (STF) conducted checks on incoming passengers from KSR Bengaluru and Rajdhani Express trains in Secunderabad, officials arrested another individual identified as Ajay Singh, with 44 bottles of beer and four additional liquor bottles.
Officials raided a location in West Marredpally where the accused Runeet and Aditya were found selling 13 grams of OG Kush. They were also in possession of 32 bottles of liquor sourced from Goa, Manipur, and Delhi. Both were taken into custody.
Meanwhile, 17 liquor bottles were seized at Zaheerabad during inspections of all vehicles entering Telangana from Goa. Tourist buses, private cars, and other vehicles were thoroughly searched at the check post as part of an intensified week-long drive against NDPL.

Tirupati Temple Board Suspends Official For Attending Church Prayers

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the administrative body overseeing the revered hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara, has suspended its Assistant Executive Officer (AEO) A Rajasekhar Babu with immediate effect for allegedly attending church in his hometown in Tirupati district. The suspension follows revelations that he allegedly attended church prayers every Sunday and was involved in "propagating Christianity," a direct violation of the code of conduct for employees representing the Hindu trust. "It has come to the notice of TTD that Sri Rajasekhar Babu attends local church prayers every Sunday in his hometown Puttur in Tirupati district," said the temple body in a statement. The TTD's decision comes as part of a broader crackdown on employees participating in non-Hindu religious activities. Earlier, the TTD had transferred at least 18 employees, including teachers, technical officers, nurses, and other officers, for similar reasons. According to a statement issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer of TTD, Tirupati, it came to their attention that Rajasekhar Babu regularly attended local church prayers in his hometown of Puttur. The TTD stated that this conduct is a clear violation of TTD norms, as he failed to adhere to the code of conduct expected of an employee representing a Hindu religious organization and acted irresponsibly. The departmental action against Rajasekhar Babu was initiated after the TTD Vigilance Department submitted a report and other evidence supporting the allegations. A video has gone viral showing him attending church and offering prayers.

Changur Baba and his aide Nasreen were arrested by the ATS in Lucknow. They face charges of fraud, illegal conversion, and conspiracy. STF findings reveal that the group received approximately Rs 100 crore in foreign funding. The racket offered fixed payouts for conversions, with higher amounts for certain castes. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stated that those who disrupt peace, harmony, and women's safety will be punished according to the law.
