'All Plot Announcements Were Fake': Arshad Nadeem Slams Pakistan Government Over Broken Promises
Pakistan's Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem has voiced his deep frustration over unfulfilled promises made by the government following his historic triumph at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Despite becoming the first Pakistani athlete to win a gold medal in track and field, Nadeem says he has yet to receive some of the key rewards promised to him—particularly land plots announced in the aftermath of his achievement.
At the Stade de France in August 2024, Nadeem delivered a stunning performance, throwing 92.97 metres to set a new Olympic record and beat India's Neeraj Chopra, who had to settle for silver.
The victory sparked nationwide celebrations, with authorities at both provincial and federal levels, as well as private organizations, announcing cash prizes and land plots as a tribute to his achievement.

However, in a recent interview with Geo TV, the 28-year-old revealed that while he did receive the promised cash awards, none of the land plot rewards were fulfilled.

Nadeem's disappointment has resonated strongly with fans, especially considering the humble background he comes from. Raised in Mian Channu, a small town around 250 km from Lahore, he grew up in a financially challenged household. His father, a construction worker, remains the family's sole breadwinner.
Eyes on the World Championships
Despite the letdown, Nadeem remains focused on his athletic goals. He is currently preparing for the World Athletics Championships, which are set to take place in Tokyo this September.
'My entire focus is on myself, but apart from that, we train any youth who comes to us for training, and this training is given by my coach Salman Butt," he said, highlighting his dual commitment to both his own development and mentoring the next generation of Pakistani athletes.
Before the World Championships, fans will be treated to another exciting chapter in the Nadeem-Chopra rivalry as the two are expected to clash at the Diamond League in Silesia, Poland on August 16.

Govt's new bill plans setting up of National Sports Board
File photo NEW DELHI: The Union govt is set to introduce a sports governance Bill in the Parliament session starting Monday. It has been drafted as part of India's preparations to strengthen its bid for Olympic Games 2036. The proposed bill, prepared by the sports ministry, has been approved by the Cabinet, which has asked it to come up with a better title for the same. Sources said the bill gains importance considering that sports governance is an important parameter for bid evaluation. Recently, India officially presented Ahmedabad's bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The bill provides for setting up of a National Sports Board (NSB), a central authority responsible for granting recognition to national sports governing bodies (NSGBs) and ensuring compliance. The NSB will have the flexibility and autonomy to prepare requisite guidelines and regulations for governance of sports. The Bill mandates the formation of an athlete committee in each NSGB for representation of athletes. Officials said NSGBs will have five members, including two sportspersons of outstanding merit and two members from the athlete committee, with sound representation of women. There is also a proposal in the bill for a National Sports Election Panel for ensuring free and fair elections to NSGBs. Further, to reduce the number of court cases, the Bill proposes setting up of a National Sports Tribunal, which will serve as a single-window system for resolution of disputes. It proposes to allocate Rs 10 crore for setting up the NSB and the tribunal.
