Cleanup efforts underway for Pleasant Farms after massive storm
The Local Emergency Declaration will allow the County to help the residents in need. Those who need help cleaning up their property will have to fill out a form at the South Ector County Volunteer Fire Department.
'This came as a response when our team was out going around to all of the property and looking at the damage and some of those constitutes came to us and asked us for help,' Judge Fawcett said. 'We know typically under a typical County statute we do not have as a County have the ability to us taxpayer funds on private properties. But in these certain scenarios, if I do declare an emergency it then allows us to do so.'
The County leaders did an aerial assessment Tuesday to document the destruction of the area. So now they could begin helping with the cleanup efforts.
'We got our full crew out here,' Jeff Avery Public Works Director said. 'We got about 30 guys that are out here today.'
For all of the residents who live in Pleasant Farms and got some damage from the storm, if they need help, they must sign some paperwork to establish the need. Or you can call the office, and they will bring you the documents you need.
'You can also call, my office at (432)381-0098 press zero and Marcy will answer the phone.' Avery said.
Officials spent Tuesday surveying the damage and have a pretty good idea about how many people were impacted.
'So far, we have identified nine RVs that were completely destroyed,' Wes Carta director of environmental enforcement said. 'We have three mobile homes that were completely destroyed. And we got approximately 15 other structures that received some other type of damage.'
Commissioner Billy Hall represents the Pleasant Farms area, and he says he has been working hard and wants to help this area and the people.
'Now that we have all of the agency together, now it is just moving forward and now lets get this thing cleaned up,' commissioner Hall said.
The crew will continue to be out here until five today or if projects tale longer they will continue to help. This Emergency Declaration is limited to only seven days. At the Commissioner Court meeting on Tuesday, Commissioners can vote for for an extension in case they need more time.
County leaders said they have had 15 to 17 property requests for help so far.

Emergency declaration extends for Pleasant Farms
ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett has asked for a 14-day extension on the Emergency Declaration, after storms brought damage to the Pleasant Farms community. City officials and volunteers have been working hard helping clean up the small community of Pleasant Farms. The extreme weather storms hit Pleasant Farms on June 3rd. The National Weather Services says this damage was caused by high winds. Now the County leaders are looking for more time and resources to help clean up this small community. 'The reason we did that is because we have had 51 landowners who have come to us,' Judge Fawcett said. 'Who has asked public works and the environment and everybody else to help.' County officials and the Red Cross have been on the ground in Pleasant Farms helping with the clean-up. A total of 51 people were affected. 'We have accomplished 27 of those in total 51. We anticipate seven more will be done today,' Judge Fawcett said. 'So that will leave us at about 34 completed out of the 51. The remaining 17 will have the two-week additional time frame to accomplish all of those.' Judge Fawcett said, there's still a lot of work left to do. 'There's a lot of property damage and we show up in people's darkest hours and provides some level of relief,' Judge Fawcett said. 'We aren't here to solve all of their problems. We can't do that. But to solve some of their problems that we have the ability to do so, I think it is a proud thing for our community.' If you are a Resident living in Pleasant Farms still needing assistance. Cleanup begins for Greenwood, Big Spring after wind and hail damage
PERMIAN BASIN (KMID/KPEJ)- The small communities of Greenwood and Big Spring suffered some damage from hail and high winds over the weekend, now, some local businesses have come together to help clean up after the storms. One local business was the Permian Star Construction. They were out in the Greenwood community helping with boarding up windows, skylights, and fences. 'Trying to give back,' Eugene Heflin, of Permian Star Construction, said. 'The community has been good to us. I want to teach my son to give back to.' Heflin said he will be out helping as long as he needs to for his community. In Big Spring, the historic Hotel Settles was also damaged. Owners were too busy to interview with us as they were cleaning up glass and boarding up windows. Because of the extensive damages, the Mayor of the City of Big Spring, Robert Moore III issued a Declaration of Local Disaster and said he has been in contact with State officials. Also starting next week, a city-wide residential large item pick-up will take place for storm-related debris. The residents can bring in vegetation, fencing, roofing, siding, and building materials. Also, in Midland the Midland County Office of Emergency Management has asked residents to report any damage caused by the recent storms that produced straight line winds and hail.
