19 new degree colleges to come up in UP under PMJVK scheme
Prayagraj: In a significant push to expand access to higher education in Uttar Pradesh, 19 new degree colleges are set to be established under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at educational development in minority-concentrated areas.
These colleges will be an addition to the 71 govt degree colleges already being developed across the state.
Initially planned to be operated by the Minority Welfare and Waqf department, the responsibility for these colleges is now being transferred to the state higher education department. Officials from both departments met in Lucknow on June 3 to discuss the transition process. However, it is yet to be decided whether the new institutions will function as fully govt-run colleges or under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Of the 71 govt degree colleges that are already being developed across the state, 69 are ready to commence operations from July 1, 2025, aligning with the 2025–26 academic session. The remaining two colleges, still under construction, are expected to open in the 2026–27 session. According to director of higher education, Amit Bhardwaj, the swift establishment of these 19 colleges is top priority for the state govt.

Talking about the district-wise distribution of the new colleges, in the neighbouring district of Pratapgarh, there will be two colleges (Gabi Mahuavan and Sandwa Chandika Purba), three in Meerut, and two each in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Shamli, and Ghaziabad. Besides, one college each will be there in Bulandshahr, Muzaffarpur, Sitapur, Unnao, Balrampur, Rampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Azamgarh.

'Traitor, sell out': Thailand PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra suspended over leaked phone call with former Cambodian leader - what were the two discussing?
Thailand's Constitutional Court on Tuesday suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office over a leaked phone call with a former Cambodian leader. Judges voted unanimously to accept the ethics petition against Paetongtarn and, by a 7-2 vote, suspended her from duty. The decision followed rising public discontent over her handling of a recent border clash with Cambodia on May 28 that left a Cambodian soldier dead. A leaked phone call during her diplomatic efforts on the dispute further fueled complaints and protests. Protesters who assembled on Saturday waved Thai flags and chanted 'Ung Ing, step down,' referring to the prime minister by her nickname. Several carried signs labeling her a 'traitor' and a 'sell out,' accusing her of betraying the country, the Guardian reported. What was in the leaked audio tape? Earlier this month, a leaked phone call revealed her discussing the border dispute with former Cambodian leader Hun Sen. In the recording, she was heard speaking critically of a high-ranking Thai military official and referring to Hun Sen as 'uncle,' assuring him that if there is anything he wants she will 'take care of it'. Meanwhile, Thailand's king approved a cabinet reshuffle aimed at stabilizing the coalition government, which has been rocked by the exit of a major party following Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra's leaked phone call with Cambodia's former leader. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Paetongtarn assumed the role of culture minister, expressing her goal to showcase Thai culture internationally. EU strikes new trade deal with Ukraine covering farm imports
EU strikes new trade deal with Ukraine covering farm imports BRUSSELS: The European Union said Monday it had agreed a new long-term trade deal with Ukraine, covering imports of food products from the war-torn country that have angered EU farmers. "With this modernised agreement, we are securing trade flows from Ukraine to Europe and global markets," European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said. "At the same time, we continue to safeguard the interests of our farmers." Brussels and Kyiv have been wrangling over the deal after protests from farmers saw the EU slap quotas on tariff-free Ukrainian agricultural imports into the bloc. In the wake of Russia's February 2022 invasion, the EU gave tariff-free access to most Ukrainian agricultural imports to help the country's economy. But irate EU farmers said the Ukrainian produce unfairly undercuts their own. In response, Brussels added certain restrictions in 2024, when it extended the agreement for one additional year, by introducing a maximum ceiling on certain tariff-free products such as cereals, poultry, eggs, sugar and corn. The European Commission said that under the new deal -- which still needs to be finalised -- quotas would remain for those sensitive agricultural areas. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ukraine: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo The new terms "improve access compared to the previous 2016 agreement, but moderate imports compared to their peak," EU agriculture commissioner Christophe Hansen said. In return, Kyiv will cut its quotas for pork, poultry and sugar imported from the EU and push to align its food production standards with those of the 27-nation bloc by 2028, Brussels said. Agricultural powerhouse Ukraine has been desperate to maintain preferential access for its products to the EU as it seeks to keep income flowing after three-and-a-half gruelling years of war.
