On Jul 20, Carey posted a video that celebrated her albums, beginning with MC1 – her 1990 self-titled debut LP – through to Caution.
At the end of the 37-second video montage, the Obsessed hitmaker displayed the text "MC16", and on X, the clip showed the title "MC16 – Announcement Tomorrow".

On her Instagram Stories, Carey posted the same clip, but with a frozen countdown ticker, which displayed '19:06:42".
The icon's tease of a new album came the day after she previewed the new single, Sugar Sweet.
Carey gave her fans a sneak peek into the light-hearted track – which features the lyrics: "Imma keep it nice, Imma keep it neat, Imma keep it sugar, Imma keep it sweet" – in a video of her baking something in a kitchen on Jul 19.
In June, Carey achieved an impressive milestone with one of her hit songs.
Over 500 million people listened to 1995 track Fantasy on the music streaming platform, Spotify.
Fantasy was Carey's ninth Number One single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and it spent eight weeks at the top from Sep 30 to Nov 18, 1995.
It was also the first single, by a female artist, to debut atop the chart, and only the second single to do so after You Are Not Alone by Michael Jackson.
Carey has now got four songs that have reached this milestone, with the others being the 1994 holiday classic All I Want For Christmas Is You, which has been streamed over two billion times, 2005's We Belong Together, which has been listened to over 777 million times, and 2009's Obsessed, which has totted almost 600 million streams.

SEOUL - Jungkook, the youngest member of K-pop boy band BTS who also has a successful solo career, has set another historic global record on music streaming platform Spotify. According to the World Music Awards on July 21, the 27-year-old South Korean singer became the first Asian solo artiste in history to surpass 100 million streams on every original track released via his Spotify account. Among the 47 tracks registered under his profile, 18 are original songs, excluding remixes. The World Music Awards honour the world's best-selling music artistes. Jungkook is also one of only three artistes in the world - alongside American singer Billie Eilish and English singer Harry Styles - to achieve 100 million streams on every original solo track on Spotify, according to international outlet Oneily Vibe. Jungkook's most-streamed track is Seven (2023), which had amassed 2.4 billion streams as at July 21. It is followed by Standing Next to You (2023) with 1.2 billion streams and a collaboration track with American singer Charlie Puth, Left and Right (2022), which has garnered over 1.1 billion streams. Seven holds records both for racking up streams the fastest and achieving the highest number ever for a song by an Asian artiste on the platform, which was founded in 2006. Jungkook has continued to hit milestone after milestone as a soloist. In 2023, he was recognised by the Guinness World Records for becoming the fastest artiste in history to reach 1 billion Spotify streams, achieving the feat in only 409 days with just three solo tracks. Moreover, his total Spotify streams have now surpassed 9.2 billion, making him not only the fastest Asian act to reach that mark, but also the first K-pop soloist to do so. Jungkook completed his mandatory military service on June 11 and is currently gearing up for the full unit comeback of BTS. Spotify releases 2025 Global Impact List, highlights rise of K-pop soloists like Jennie and Jin
SEOUL – Global music streaming platform Spotify unveiled its 2025 Global Impact List for the first half of the year on July 21, spotlighting the growing influence of K-pop soloists such as Jennie, Jin and J-Hope. The list ranks the 30 most-streamed tracks by South Korean artistes outside the country between Jan 1 and June 30. This year's list offers a glimpse into the evolving K-pop landscape through a diverse line-up of artistes, highlighting the importance of artistes' charm as soloists and their active interaction with overseas musicians. One of the most notable trends is the rise of solo K-pop acts. Of the top 30 songs , 19 were by solo artistes and, among the top 10, nine tracks were sung by soloists. Spotify noted that the chart reflects a shift in K-pop from group-centred storytelling to more personal narratives and individual artistic identity. A total of 14 South Korean acts appeared on the list, including boy band BTS members Jin and J-Hope, Blackpink's Jennie, Rose and Jisoo, as well as Ive, Le Sserafim, NCT's Ten, Tomorrow X Together (TXT), GOT7, Seventeen, Meovv, BoyNextDoor and G-Dragon. Of the 30 tracks, only 12 came from artistes or groups outside BTS and Blackpink. Topping the list is Jennie's main track Like Jennie from her March solo album Ruby, followed by Jin's Don't Say You Love Me from his second mini album Echo, released in May. Jennie stood out with nine songs featured on the list, all from Ruby.
