Meet the Greek-Australian 'Zeus' who champions in Dragon Boating and philosophises stoically!
Born and raised in Australia to a Greek family, Christopher's early years were steeped in a sense of culture and community. His mother's origins are from Cyprus. His father was born in Egypt, however his origins are from the island Lemnos, where Christopher visits annually and regards it as a home. 'My heritage absolutely shaped my upbringing,' he reflects. 'Greek values — family, hard work, loyalty, resilience — they've stayed with me all the way through my sporting career.' While many from our community typically gravitate towards football, basketball or athletics, Christopher took a different route. 'I wasn't surrounded by paddlers growing up,' he admits. 'There were no athletes in the family. I stumbled upon rowing whn i was studying in Oxford. Once I got in a boat, I was hooked. The rhythm, the mental and physical challenge — it just clicked.' Dragon boating and paddling, as he explains, is not for the faint-hearted. It's a sport that demands immense physical endurance, long hours, financial investment, and unwavering mental strength.
Source: Supplied Over the years, there were countless highlights — from national victories to the thrill of representing Australia on the global stage. But for Christopher, the recent induction into the International Hall of Fame holds deep personal meaning. 'It's not just about medals. It's recognition of the journey — of every early morning, every injury, every sacrifice. And for someone with a multicultural background, it means a lot to stand in those halls.'
Today, 'Zeus' has taken on a new role: that of coach and mentor. And the results speak for themselves.
What's his secret as a coach? 'It's about balance,' he says. 'You push, but you protect. You challenge your athletes mentally and physically, but you also help them navigate setbacks. It's about building not just winners, but well-rounded people.' He adds: 'For multicultural athletes especially, I say — embrace who you are. Don't let anyone define your limits. Our diversity is our strength.' The nickname 'Zeus'? It started as a joke among teammates — a nod to his Greek roots, leadership qualities, and powerful presence in the boat. But the name stuck. 'Do I live up to it outside the water?' he laughs. 'I try! I'm passionate, loyal, maybe a bit loud — definitely Greek in all the best ways.'
Outside paddling, Christopher enjoys cooking Greek food, reading history, and spending time with family. And yes — he travels to Greece often. His favorite place? Lemnos. He also has an ambition to climb to Greek mountains like Pindos and …Olympus.

Sonny Bill Williams storms out and rejects post-fight interview as Paul Gallen is flipped off in fiery scenes
Paul Gallen beat his long-time rival Sonny Bill Williams on Wednesday night and safe to say his opponent didn't take it well. After countless stories, insults, accusations and missteps, the two former footy greats took to the ring at Qudos Bank Arena well after their primes to finally settle their beef once and for all. Williams looked much fitter and fresher in the early rounds, fighting behind his jab, but faded late as Gallen came on strong in the latter rounds to claim bragging rights by split decision, 77-74, 74-77, 76-75. Tszyu vs. Fundora 2 & Pacquiao vs. Barrios | SUN 20 JULY 10AM AEST | In the biggest fight of the year, Tim Tszyu faces Sebastian Fundora in a blockbuster rematch, plus Manny Pacquiao makes his highly anticipated return to the ring to face Mario Barrios. | Order now with Main Event on Kayo Sports. Post-fight, Gallen said he was shocked that even one judge gave it to SBW, feeling he had lost only one to two rounds. 'Seriously, how did they score that? I definitely lost one round, think there was another close one and he had a point taken off,' Gallen said. 'Anyway, I got the win, that's all that matters. I'm not going to gloat. It's been a long time coming, and I got the job done.' He then doubled down at the media scrum: 'You heard the crowd when his score was read out. Please, I won the fight, I won the fight.' But Sonny Bill formed a vastly different belief, feeling he was robbed of the win. Such was his dismay that he stormed out of the ring after the result was announced and refused to do a post-fight interview or address the media. After pushed for a comment on the result from the Sonny Bill camp, they came back with: 'You saw it, you can report on what you saw.' And while Gallen considers their beef settled, at least some of the SBW camp do not. Adding to the post-fight drama, Williams' former manager, Khoder Nasser, flipped off Gallen after the result was read and then argued with the Sharks great in the ring. He was escorted out by security, but by then, SBW was already halfway back to the dressing room, where the doors were firmly shut and it was made clear that no questions would be answered. And while Gallen thought the result was clear, many others believed SBW was hard done by, including Danny Green and Renee Gartner, who said in their opinion the Kiwi had done enough to win the fight. But nevertheless it will go down in the record books as a Gallen win. And with the 43-year-old saying he is 'too old to do this anymore', he goes out of the sport a winner.

Anthony Mundine calls out longtime rival Danny Green's son after Rahim Mundine scores KO win
Anthony Mundine has used the chance to take a shot at his long-time rival, Danny Green, after his son Rahim 'The Dream' Mundine won his second career fight by knockout. The son of Anthony and grandson of Tony Mundine, Rahim stepped back into the ring after injury ruined his dreams of playing NRL. And he had few troubles with Joe Vatusaqata (1-5 record) on Wednesday night. On the Sonny Bill Williams and undercard, Mundine was far too strong for Fijian boxer Vatusaqata, knocking him down twice in the second round before his corner threw in the towel. You can watch the vicious knockout in the player above. 'I went back to footy and hurt myself again, so I was like nah, I'm going back to boxing,' Mundine said after improving his record to 2-0. However, his post-fight interview quickly became a chance for the Mundines to reignite their beef with the Greens. Danny Green fought two massive fights against Anthony Mundine during their careers in the ring, splitting them 1-1. But that didn't stop Mundine accusing Danny of being scared of fighting again and instead called out Green's son Archie, who has never had a professional or amateur fight, to box his son Rahim. 'It makes sense (for his son to fight Archie),' Mundine said after his son improved to 2-0. 'I pumped Danny a couple of times; he doesn't want to admit it. He reckons he won the third fight, but he doesn't want to do it again. 'I said let's do it again, but he doesn't want to do it because he knows what's up, but our boys can do it.' Rahim added: 'He hasn't fought yet, but I'm sure if he does his job in the next five years and I keep doing what I'm doing, the Mundine last name can whoop the Green last name again, you know what I mean?' Danny Green – who was working in the commentary box for Stan Sport – fired back at Mundine. 'I'm a nice guy that's why I didn't take the third fight. You took 11 years to do the rematch you pelican,' Green said. 'I love you too much, I'd hurt you too much. So yeah, 100% and Choc can't count, the W is next to my name. Look what's going to happen in the future, our sons are going to carry on our legacies.' Archie Green was also open to the idea of fighting Rahim. 'At the moment I am 17 and I'm about 56kg and definitely I want to have a fight (at amateur level) before the end of this year,' Archie said. 'Down the track definitely, but I just want to make the trilogy 2 and 1.'
