He urged all departments and government-linked companies (GLCs) to follow this example to reinforce public trust in government institutions.
Advertisement The OACP, he said, aims to establish a more efficient, credible, and corruption-free administration. Hajiji, who also chairs Sawit Kinabalu, emphasised that the plan must become part of the daily work culture, not just a policy requirement. He made the remarks after receiving the OACP from Group Managing Director and CEO Datuk Victor Ationg during a courtesy visit at Menara Kinabalu on Thursday. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Potential Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce - Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad collaboration

Published on: Monday, July 21, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 21, 2025 Text Size: Lui (third left) in a group photo with MIDF VP Yip Weng Seng and others. Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KKCCCI) is open to forging a strategic partnership with Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) to better support local entrepreneurs in the face of economic challenges and climate-related disruptions. KKCCCI President Datuk Michael Lui Yen Sang expressed strong support for the collaboration during a courtesy visit by MIDF Vice President Yip Weng Seng and senior Sabah branch officers at Wisma KKCCCI on Friday. Advertisement Lui said the Chamber welcomed MIDF's financing offerings, especially its low-interest loans and tailored moratorium facilities, which provide crucial relief for local businesses often impacted by natural disasters. 'Generally, businesses welcome low interest rates, and MIDF's initiatives come as timely support. The moratorium facility is a great sigh of relief for many local business owners,' Lui said. He also expressed interest in working closely with MIDF to organise joint activities and seminars to raise awareness of the agency's financing schemes among KKCCCI members and the wider business community. MIDF, a wholly owned subsidiary of MBSB Berhad, offers services in investment banking, development finance, and asset management. According to Yip, who also oversees MIDF operations in East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak), the agency currently provides one of the most competitive interest rates in the market. Yip added that MIDF's green financing schemes are available for solar panel installation, eco-friendly machinery, and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, aligning with global sustainability goals. Also present during the visit were MIDF Sabah Branch Head Sudirman Mohd Alwi and Relationship Managers Wong Siew Wan and Caroline Fredrick. Both parties agreed to continue discussions on future collaborations that could benefit Sabah's business ecosystem. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabah's performance earns Asean honour

Published on: Monday, July 21, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 21, 2025 Text Size: Masidi receiving the award from Azman. Kota Kinabalu: Sabah was honoured as Malaysia's Most Outstanding State for 2024 at the prestigious Asean International Business Review (IBR) Awards held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) Saturday night, in view of its impressive economic transformation, strategic planning, and commitment to sustainable development. The award was presented by IBR Awards Chief Judge, Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, and accepted by Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun on behalf of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Advertisement The recognition was the result of rigorous evaluation by a panel of industry leaders, backed by comprehensive data-driven assessments by expert advisors. In his speech delivered by Masidi, Hajiji credited the State Government's long-term vision and solid policy foundation for driving Sabah's ongoing economic revival and investment momentum. 'For the past five years, we have laid the groundwork for a stronger, united Sabah, inviting the world to partner with us in harnessing our natural resources to uplift the lives of our people,' said Hajiji. Sabah, he noted, is rich in natural assets from gold, copper and silica, to palm oil, cocoa, oil and gas, hydropower, coal and a wealth of marine resources. The state's oceans not only yield some of the world's finest seafood, but also offer immense potential in thermal energy and blue economy ventures. A key milestone in Sabah's economic empowerment was the signing of the Commercial Collaboration Agreement with Petronas, granting the state greater equity and influence in its oil and gas sector. This includes 50pc equity in the Samarang field, 25pc in the Samur petrochemical project, and most recently, a 25pc stake in the USD3.1 billion floating liquefied natural gas (PFLNG 3) facility in Sipitang. Since September 2020, Sabah has secured RM17.41 billion in approved investments across 73 companies in the manufacturing sector, 52 of which are already operational, creating 3,636 jobs. From 2022 to 2024 alone, the state received new investment proposals worth RM42.3 billion, projected to generate nearly 33,000 new jobs. Hajiji also highlighted the transformative potential of the RM31 billion E-steel Enterprise Sabah project launched in June, expected to fuel innovation in green technology and catalyse economic spillovers across the state. To meet growing investor interest, the State Government has approved three new industrial parks in Kota Belud, Beaufort, and Kudat, the latter designated as a Blue Economy Industrial Park. Sabah, Hajiji stressed, is committed to remaining investor-friendly, underpinned by policies that encourage collaboration, ensure transparency, and foster a stable business climate. Enhanced air connectivity is also part of Sabah's investment strategy. 'The new Kota Kinabalu-Taipei-Fukuoka route by AirAsia is a great example of what we hope to see more of, as it supports both tourism and trade,' he added. The Blue Economy, particularly in Kudat, is seen as a future growth engine. The sector is expected to produce 491,000 metric tonnes of seafood annually valued at RM3.25 billion. Beyond fisheries, it offers opportunities in marine biotech, ocean renewable energy, maritime logistics, and blue carbon. One promising innovation is Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC), with plans for a 500km coastline deployment that could eventually generate 20,000MW of clean energy, a global first in scale. On infrastructure, Hajiji revealed that RM679.85 million has been allocated this year to tackle immediate water shortages, complemented by long-term projects like the Ulu Padas hydropower dam, which will release 6,000 million litres of water daily. To support long-term growth, Sabah is also investing in its people. Nearly RM1 billion has been channelled into education and youth development initiatives between 2021 and 2024. 'Sabah's story is one of resilience, opportunity, and strategic foresight. We are open for business, ready for innovation, and committed to building a prosperous future for all,' Hajiji said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Another Assembly sitting possible, says Masidi

Published on: Monday, July 21, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 21, 2025 By: Jonathan Nicholas Text Size: Masidi delivering the Chief Minister's speech at the award ceremony. Kota Kinabalu: There is room for another State Legislative Assembly sitting before the state elections due later this year, said Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun. He stressed the need to table the 2026 State Budget to ensure continuity of government operations. Advertisement 'The budget can be presented either before or after the 17th State Election. But it must be tabled to avoid disruptions to government services early next year. 'For example, we must ensure civil servants are paid and government programmes can proceed as planned. 'Even if elections are called early, there is still enough time to table the budget in November as usual. 'However, if the assembly is dissolved later, we believe we still have a window in December to convene and table the budget before the year ends so there are no hiccups,' he told reporters. On Sabah's fiscal negotiations with the federal government, Masidi acknowledged that both parties have laid their positions clearly. 'Sabah has put its cards on the table, what we want and what we expect. Likewise, the federal government has also presented their side. 'Leaders like Fadillah and Jeffrey have already given their statements. What has been agreed so far will be brought back for respective internal deliberations before both sides return to find mutually acceptable solutions,' he said. Masidi said while Sabah understands the complexity of federal-state fiscal issues, the state will not compromise on what is already enshrined in the Constitution. 'As far as Sabah is concerned, we stand by our previous statements. What is constitutionally provided for cannot be compromised. Sabah deserves to get what it is entitled to,' he said. He acknowledged that the current economic climate does not lend itself to 'a generous attitude' from the federal side. Meanwhile, Masidi said the 'Most Outstanding State' award, while prestigious, is not a declaration that Sabah has already achieved excellence but an acknowledgement of the state government's tireless efforts to move Sabah toward a level of development that had long been elusive. 'What was recognised was not that we've reached the peak, but the commitment and progress made by the government to bring Sabah to a level we have always struggled to reach,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
