The firm clocked its best-ever sales for the month of May at Rs 186 crore, a 24 per cent bump from the target of Rs 150 The soap maker has been on a winning streak in the past few years, with annual sales almost doubling since 2020-21 to Rs 1,780 crore in 2024-25; net profit grew almost four-fold from Rs 113 crore to Rs 415 crore in the same period. Ramping up production and online marketing played a big role in this, says its MD, Prashanth India accounts for over 80 per cent of the sales for KS&DL, with Andhra Pradesh the biggest market. Hence, the push into other regions, especially the north. It's also why 'pan-India star' Tamannaah was signed up. KS&DL has set itself a target of Rs 5,000 crore in annual turnover by 2028. It is investing Rs 250 crore in a new plant at Vijayapura in north Karnataka and also eyeing diversification into new products. Bengaluru court restrains Kamal Haasan from making statements defaming Kannada
A Bengaluru city civil and sessions court on Friday (July 4, 2025) issued an ex-parte temporary injunction restraining actor Kamal Haasan from making any statements having the effect of causing hurt or defaming the Kannada language, literature, land and culture. Madhu N.R., judge of the 30th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, passed the order on a suit filed by the Kannada Sahithya Parishat (KSP), Bengaluru. Also Read | Kamal Haasan moves Karnataka High Court for 'Thug Life' release after boycott calls Meanwhile, the court directed the KSP to give public advertisement stating that it has filed the suit in a representative capacity on behalf of Kannadigas, in terms of the provisions of the Civil Procedure Code (CPC), while ordering issue of notice to Mr. Haasan and adjourning further hearing till August 30. The suit has been filed in connection with Mr. Haasan's controversial statement, made on April 24 during the launch of his movie 'Thug Life' in Chennai, in which the actor had claimed that 'Kannada is born out of Tamil'. 'The reason that actor's statement caused immense pain and anguish to people is because it is manifestly and objectively untrue and it has been made with a sense of chauvinism, superiority and arrogance....' it has been contended in the suit. Though the issue of opposition to screen movie 'Thug Life' in Karnataka has been adjudicated before the apex court, the KSP has said that the 'defamatory and fallacious statement made by the defendant remains and continuous to hurt the sentiments of the people (including that of KSP) and has caused immense disrepute, disgrace and humiliation.' Pointing out that the actor's controversial statement is 'patently and admittedly' false, the KSP has said that 'in fact, both the languages are sister languages...' While pointing out that Mr. Haasan has refused to tender an apology for his 'false statement', the KSP has sought a direction to him to tender an unconditional apology to the people of Karnataka and Kannadigas and withdraw his controversial statement on Kannada language.

Court Bars Kamal Haasan From Making Remarks Against Kannada
Bengaluru: Weeks after the Supreme Court said Kamal Haasan did not need to issue any apology for his "Kannada was born out of Tamil" comment, a court in Bengaluru has barred the actor from making any remarks against the language. An Additional City Civil and Sessions judge was hearing a petition by pro-Kannada organisation Kannada Sahitya Parishat seeking an injunction against Mr Haasan from making any defamatory remarks against Kannada language and culture. In its ex parte (without the presence or response of the other party) order on Friday, the court restrained the actor from "posting, making, issuing, writing, publishing and/or distributing any statement or remarks claiming linguistic superiority over Kannada language or by making any statements having the effect of causing hurt or defaming the Kannada language, literature, land and culture" till the next hearing, which will be on August 30. The court noted that the Kannada Sahitya Parishat "has been working towards the promotion of Kannada language, literature and culture across the state of Karnataka" and "is empowered to take any steps in the interest of Kannadigas, their literature and culture". During the promotion of his film 'Thug Life' in May, Kamal Haasan had turned to Kannada actor Shivarajkumar and said, "This is my family in that place. That's why he has come here. That's why I began my speech saying life, relationship and Tamil. Your language (Kannada) was born out of Tamil, so you too are included." The remarks had sparked a furore and the Karnataka High Court had warned Mr Haasan against misusing his right to free speech. "The spoken word can't be taken back but there can be an apology. You cannot unscramble a scrambled egg," the court had said. The actor had said his statement was misunderstood and that he deeply respects the Kannada language, but had not issued an outright apology. Some pro-Kannada groups had then warned against the film's release in Karnataka and also threatened theatres. Hearing a petition last month, the Supreme Court had said 'Thug Life' has been cleared by the Censor Board of Film Certification and should be released in the state. It also said Mr Haasan should not have been asked to apologise.
