Former Category III actress Amy Yip recently marked her 59th birthday in style with a party at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong.
The occasion drew a host of high-profile figures – including actors Bowie Wu and Raymond Wong, Emperor Capital Group chairperson Daisy Yeung, the mother of acclaimed actress Charmaine Sheh and more.
Adding a fun touch to the night, Yip wowed guests with a lively performance of the 1980s classic It's A Small World , originally sung by Priscilla Chan.
She also turned heads with two looks – one featuring a platinum blonde bob and black dress, reportedly inspired by American pop icon Lady Gaga's Poker Face era, and another with a neat updo and sparkling sequin dress, channeling the playful energy of Tinkerbell.
In a speech, Yip said she threw the grand bash simply because she wanted to have fun and celebrate with all her friends.
'I believe that when you're kind to others, it will come back to you. Seeing so many guests dressed beautifully to attend my birthday party… I feel so touched,' she added.
As for the highlight of the night, it came when Yip's Malaysian business partner Evian Chong took the stage to personally present her with the Most Influential Actress of the 80s Era award.
The honour was bestowed by the Malaysia Dato Foundation, which celebrates the contributions of various individuals in their respective fields, earlier in January.
'I came from the film industry, but after meeting Evian, I got the opportunity to venture into the world of business and invest in hotels. I'll keep learning from her … This year has already been amazing, but I hope next year will be even better,' Yip said.
For the record, Yip began investing in hotels after getting acquainted with Chong, managing director of Malaysian hospitality company Evians Holdings.
The actress launched her first boutique hotel in Penang last year and has already invested in a second hotel in the state – a durian-themed establishment as she loves eating durian.

(Video) Michael Wong Successfully Concludes 2-Day Concert At Stadium Merdeka

The past weekend saw a bunch of concerts, including back-to-back shows by Malaysian singer-songwriter Michael Wong, fondly known as Guang Liang (光良). The singer's two-day concert at Stadium Merdeka was a huge success and also earned the singer praise for a respectful gesture. Last Friday and Saturday (18th and 19th July 2025), Michael Wong held his 'Never Apart. Lonely Planet 3.0' concerts at Stadium Merdeka. The two-day show received a lot of attention from the start after the star announced that all tickets to the concert were uniformly priced at RM199. The generous move was to show Michael's gratitude to his fans for their love and support throughout his 30-year career in the music industry. The two shows were a success, with a total of 40,000 tickets sold for both days. Fans were also satisfied with the performances, as Michael sang all his classic love songs for more than three hours each night. Most amusingly, during Day 2, fans wouldn't leave the stadium after the show ended and continued chanting 'encore' despite it being after midnight. While Michael was flustered that fans wouldn't leave the hall, he continued singing for another half an hour. Michael also celebrated the success of his concert tour with a celebration banquet. During the event, he received a certification from the ASEAN Records for being the first artist to perform twice at Stadium Merdeka with full capacity and uniformly priced tickets. He also spoke candidly about how he fulfilled his promise to return to Malaysia and thanked the fans for their continued support. Interestingly, the singer and his concert also received praise for a respectful gesture. On Twitter, journalist Norman Goh revealed that both concerts started at 9pm to respect the Maghrib and Isyak prayers. The crew also paused the music at the venue during the Azan. Many netizens praised Michael and the concert organiser for respecting religion during the show and for showing cultural sensitivity. We congratulate Michael on the success of his concerts and his new ASEAN Record. We also share our kudos to him for respecting the prayer times. #SHOWBIZ: Ellen DeGeneres on UK move: 'Life is just better here' following Trump re-election

CHELTENHAM: Veteran American TV personality Ellen DeGeneres has made her inaugural public appearance in the UK, revealing that her decision to relocate to England was directly prompted by Donald Trump's re-election as US president. Speaking to an audience in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, the comedian and host declared that life across the pond "is just better." DeGeneres, 67, shared that she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are contemplating a renewed marriage ceremony in England. This consideration comes in light of recent legislative efforts in the US to roll back LGBTQ+ rights, a situation that, according to DeGeneres, can still make America "scary for people to be who they are." Featured Videos During her conversation with broadcaster Richard Bacon at the Everyman Theatre, DeGeneres also addressed the allegations of a toxic workplace environment that ultimately led to the conclusion of her long-running chat show in 2022. While admitting she could be "very blunt," she largely dismissed the claims as mere "clickbait." A prominent figure in US TV for three decades, DeGeneres is known for her daytime talk show, a self-titled 1990s sitcom, and her roles as host of the Oscars, Grammys, and Emmys, as well as voicing Dory in Disney's Finding Nemo. After her talk show's cancellation, she embarked on a "final stand-up tour" in the US in 2024 before purchasing a property in the picturesque Cotswolds. DeGeneres clarified that she and de Rossi initially intended to spend only three to four months annually in the UK, acquiring what they believed would be a "part-time house." However, their plans drastically shifted. "We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in'," she said. "And we're like, 'We're staying here'." Since their November move, DeGeneres has offered glimpses of her new rural lifestyle on social media, sharing videos of her farm animals, which included sheep that have since been sold because they kept escaping. "It's absolutely beautiful," she said about her new home. "We're just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture - everything you see is charming, and it's just a simpler way of life. It's clean. "Everything here is just better - the way animals are treated, and people are polite."
