Sharjeel calls upon political parties to lay their focus on economy
Speaking to the media at Rawal House, Rahuki, he emphasised that Pakistan has achieved a great and historic victory, and now a similar success must be pursued in the economic sphere.
Memon, who is also provincial minister for information, transport, and mass transit, said that Pakistan's global standing, including the value of its passport, has improved. He said that the nation is now fully aware of the enemy's proxy war being waged within Pakistan. He said our youth are courageously fighting terrorists day and night, and our defense forces possess the strength and capability to deliver a decisive blow to India.
Memon said that at this critical time, the pursuit of power should not be anyone's priority. Instead, it is the government's responsibility to take the opposition on board in order to steer the country out of its current challenges.
Criticizing former Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said that Khan should apologise to the nation for incidents such as those of May 9. He added that PTI has effectively sidelined itself, and internal divisions within the party have now become evident.
He said that in politics, opportunities are given to everyone, and everyone makes mistakes, but Imran Khan should open his eyes now and recognize the double-dealing elements around him.
Speaking about the Sindh government, he said that the Chief Minister has put all relevant institutions on high alert in view of the anticipated floods and rains. He expressed serious concerns over the ongoing electricity crisis, stating that Hyderabad is facing up to 20 hours of load shedding, which is causing widespread suffering.
He criticized the poor performance of Discos and urged the federal government to hold these power companies accountable and provide relief to the common people.

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain chaired a high-level meeting on Friday to review and accelerate efforts for increasing cotton yield across the country. The meeting brought together senior officials of the ministry, representatives from provincial agriculture departments, research experts, and key stakeholders from the cotton-growing regions. The minister said that cotton is a vital crop for Pakistan's agriculture sector and the backbone of the country's textile industry. He expressed concern over the decline in cotton productivity in recent years and emphasised the need for a coordinated and targeted strategy to address the structural challenges facing the crop. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to reviving cotton production through farmer-focused interventions, research-driven solutions, and improved service delivery in the agriculture sector. The minister stressed that enhancing cotton yield is essential not only for the sustainability of the textile value chain but also for improving the livelihoods of farmers and boosting rural incomes. He emphasised the timely provision of quality inputs such as certified seed and pesticides, improved pest control methods, adoption of climate-resilient farming techniques, and farmer awareness through strengthened extension services. He also directed relevant departments to expedite policy measures and technological innovations that could help bridge the yield gap and ensure better returns for cotton growers. During the meeting, various proposals were reviewed to improve crop management and field practices. The participants exchanged views on the current status of cotton cultivation and discussed practical steps to tackle production constraints. It was decided that a comprehensive action plan would be finalised in close coordination with the provinces to ensure effective implementation ahead of the next sowing season. ‘IK asks followers to launch protest movement after 10th Muharram'
ISLAMABAD: Aleema Khan, sister of jailed former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan, announced on Friday that her brother has instructed his followers to launch a movement against the government after the 10th day of Muharram. Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail following a meeting with Imran Khan, she said that the former prime minister has directed his party to ignite a nationwide protest, but only after the 10th of Muharram. Aleema also claimed that Imran Khan has strongly criticised the controversial 27th Amendment, describing it as so oppressive that 'it would be better to have a monarchy.' This statement comes in the wake of a Supreme Court verdict on 27 June, which dealt a significant blow to PTI by stripping the party of reserved seats for minorities and women in both national and provincial assemblies. Aleema painted a grim picture of her brother's imprisonment, accusing authorities of subjecting him to harsh, near-isolation conditions. She said Imran Khan is confined to a cell for 22 hours a day, denied access to books and contact with his children, and stripped of all standard jail privileges. In a pointed comparison, Aleema noted that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has enjoyed meals brought from home, regular visitors, and comfortable accommodation in a 'rest house' – privileges, she added, have been denied to Imran Khan. 'This continued denial is both inhumane and unlawful,' Aleema asserted, revealing that Imran has been barred from seeing his sons for six months and cut off from party members for eight months, effectively stifling his political leadership. Pricing mechanism across country: DCs directed to analyse wholesale, retail prices regularly
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal directed all deputy commissioners of the provinces to compare wholesale and retail prices regularly and take corrective action where necessary. The minister urged the provincial governments to actively supervise and support this process. He also directed the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) to provide login reports to chief secretaries on a monthly basis. Federal Minister for Planning chaired a meeting of the National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) in Islamabad on Friday to review the inflationary trends and pricing mechanism across the country. The meeting was attended by the chief economist, chief statistician, senior officials from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and representatives from relevant federal and provincial departments. He emphasised the importance of effective monitoring through the Price Scorecard system. He highlighted during the meeting that the chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accessed the system 114 times, while Sindh accessed it only 10 times, Punjab 6 times, and Balochistan did not log in at all. Among Deputy Commissioners, Islamabad logged in 27 times, Karachi 6 times, and Quetta 4 times. The minister expressed serious concern over the underutilisation of the Price Scorecard by provincial administrations. The meeting was informed that prices of several essential items, including LPG, bananas, mustard oil, chickpeas, and moong dal, have decreased. However, sugar prices have surged, reaching nearly Rs190 per kilogramme in most cities. The country has witnessed a decline in sugar production this year, with output falling to 5.8 million tons from 6.8 million tons. In response, the Ministry of Food has decided to import 0.5 million tons of sugar to stabilise the market. During the meeting, the Chief Statistician presented key data indicating that the inflation rate for the fiscal year 2024-25 stood at 4.5 per cent, significantly down from 23.4 per cent recorded during the previous year. Minister Iqbal highlighted this as the lowest inflation rate in the past nine years, reflecting the government's effective policy interventions and improved supply-side management. In urban areas, food inflation was recorded at 4.2 per cent, compared to 6.2 per cent last year. However, supply chain disruptions due to highway closures in Sindh were noted as a contributing factor in localised price fluctuations. Minister Iqbal also called for the development of an advance supply and demand plan for the upcoming Ramadan to avoid shortages and price hikes. He appreciated the stability in food prices during Eidul Azha and stressed the need to maintain this momentum through coordinated efforts among federal and provincial stakeholders.
