Hyderabad man duped of over ₹1 lakh in job scam
According to the police, the victim had shared his resume with friends in search of employment opportunities. One of them forwarded a phone number he had received from a third party, suggesting that the contact might have job openings. Trusting the lead, the victim contacted the number and was introduced to a man who identified himself as the Admin Director of a firm named 'Intel Lie Company'.
The caller claimed that the company had job vacancies with salary packages between ₹25 lakh to ₹30 lakh per annum. He told the victim that his current financial profile did not meet the offer criteria and advised him to revise his previous year's Income Tax Return (ITR). He offered to facilitate the amendment through his chartered accountant and asked the victim to transfer ₹38,000 to a given bank account.
Over the next few days, the fraudster continued to demand additional payments under various pretexts. The victim transferred ₹36,000 to a second account and ₹37,000 more for what was described as a mandatory 'Gold SIP' to secure the position. After receiving the total amount of ₹1,11,000, the alleged recruiter stopped responding, and his phone has remained switched off since May 28, 2025.
Authorities warn that scammers often pose as HR officials or company executives and exploit referrals from friends or messages on WhatsApp to gain trust. Police are urging the public to always verify job offers through official websites and company HR departments.

New Delhi: The government on Sunday termed "untrue" a WhatsApp message that claimed the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had ordered banks to cease issuing Rs 500 notes via ATMs by September 30, saying no such instruction has been issued. The deceptive message also claims that 90 per cent of ATMs will cease issuing Rs 500 notes by March 31, 2026, and 75 per cent will do so by September 30. Additionally, it advises people to begin "liquidating" their Rs 500 notes and implies that only Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes will be accessible through ATMs in the future. Responding to the message, the government media arm Press Information Bureau's Fact Check unit said that the RBI has not issued any such instructions, and Rs 500 notes are still legal tender. In a post on X, it clarified that the widely shared claim is untrue and advised people not to believe such false information. "Has RBI asked banks to stop disbursing Rs 500 notes from ATMs by September 2025? A message falsely claiming exactly this is spreading on #WhatsApp. #PIBFactCheck, No such instruction has been issued by the @RBI, Rs 500 notes will continue to be legal tender," the post said. The Fact Check Unit stressed the significance of confirming any financial updates from official sources and cautioned that such messages are intended to deceive. "Don't fall for such misinformation. Always verify news from official sources before believing or sharing it!" it stated. A similar claim went viral on social media last month. The previous message, which was widely shared on WhatsApp as well, implied that the RBI had a phased plan to stop issuing Rs 500 notes to ATMs by 2026. PIB Fact Check had denied the allegation at that time as well, claiming that no such directive had been issued. Authorities have emphasised the importance of exercising caution when consuming and disseminating unconfirmed information. Users are advised to rely only on reliable sources, such as the RBI's official communications or PIB's fact-checking handle, for any updates regarding currency, as misinformation about it has become more prevalent.

New Delhi: Ahmedabad's police has taken down public posters advising women not to attend parties or go to secluded places at night lest they be 'raped or gangraped', it said, adding that it had nothing to do with them. At least two posters put up by an organisation named the Satarkta Group in Ahmedabad had sparked anger over the last few days. One of them advised women to 'not go to parties at night' as they could be 'raped or gangraped'. Another poster, which read that it was 'sponsored' by the Ahmedabad city traffic police, told its male audience not to take their women friends 'to secluded places in the dark', going on to ask: 'what if they are raped or gangraped?' Safin Hasan, deputy commissioner in the Ahmedabad police's traffic branch, said in a statement on Saturday (August 2) that the authorities immediately took the posters down after learning about their 'objectionable' content. When they looked into the matter, it was found that while the Satarkta Group was granted permission to put up posters on traffic awareness, 'it went outside this remit' in installing the posters concerned, he claimed. Police lodged a report on the matter with the aim of finding out whose permission the posters were installed with and whether the city municipal corporation's approval had been taken, Hasan said, adding that it will take legal action if criminal intent was discerned. 'The Ahmedabad police and the Ahmedabad city traffic police have no connection with these posters. The comments on the posters are contrary to our modus operandi and values,' he also said. Opposition parties criticised Gujarat's BJP government for the posters. 'The police has put up a poster saying 'stay at home in order to stay protected from rape'. When there was opposition [to the posters], then they took them down and are now clarifying that they didn't put them up … In BJP-ruled states, where daughters should benefit from safety and justice, such crimes are being encouraged with such statements,' Congress leader Alka Lamba said at a press conference.
