
Jabalpur BJP leader held for allegedly pushing Assam woman into prostitution
According to the police, the woman, a resident of Guwahati, lodged a complaint on June 1 at the Gadha police station accusing a hotel owner and an associate of his of forcing her into prostitution, physical abuse and non-payment.
Suryakant Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police, Jabalpur rural zone-3, told The Hindu that the hotel owner, Atul Chourasiya, is a local BJP leader and was arrested based on the woman's complaint. The other accused, identified as Sheetal alias Mathura Dubey, is currently absconding.
'As per the woman's complaint, she had been brought to Jabalpur on the promise of getting her a job at a clothing company. But she's alleged that she was given the job at Chourasiya's hotel and sent to his customers,' Mr. Sharma said.
He added that a case was filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as the provisions of the The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
Mr. Chourasiya was produced before a court and sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
According to the FIR, accessed by The Hindu, the woman had arrived in Jabalpur in May 2023 and had been working at the hotel for approximately one and a half years.
Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent Anand Kaldagi told reporters that the preliminary investigation revealed that the two accused were involved in bringing more women from the northeastern States like Assam and Meghalaya, and forcing them into prostitution and human trafficking.
He said that the police were working on tracing and contacting more women who could be victims of the alleged racket.

Just before taking the extreme step, he sent videos to his son and posted them on social media, accusing senior officers and a local sand mafia member of mentally harassing him after he stopped a vehicle involved in illegal sand transportation. In the video, Paawan alleged that the tractor he intercepted belonged to Bablu Yadav, a resident of Godan village, who was allegedly involved in the sand mafia and also operated gambling dens. He claimed that shortly after the vehicle was seized, Godan police station incharge Arvind Singh Bhadoria and constable Roop Narayan Yadav -- allegedly a relative of Bablu Yadav -- had the vehicle released and began harassing him. He also named Thorat police station in charge Hasan, alleging that he too was acting under pressure from Bablu Yadav due to the gambling activities in his jurisdiction. When his son tried to contact him after receiving the videos, Paawan did not respond. The family alerted police, who broke into his govt quarters and found him hanging in his room. Following the incident, SP Datia Suraj Kumar Verma removed Godan police station in charge Bhadoria from his post and assigned the probe to DSP AJK Umesh Garg. Speaking to TOI, DSP Garg said, "A case for abetment to suicide and under relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered against the incharges of Godan and Thorat police stations, a constable posted at Godan, and a local named by the deceased in the video, after a detailed probe on Friday night. 24-year-old booked for raping friend's 17-year-old sister
Rajkot: A 24-year-old man allegedly abducted and raped the 17-year-old sister of his friend, after compelling her to meet him by threatening to circulate screenshots of their interactions. According to police, the accused was a friend of the victim's brother. He began messaging the victim without her brother's knowledge. The accused sent the girl vulgar messages and took screenshots of these interactions. By threatening to circulate the screenshots on social media, he forced the girl to accompany him on a motorcycle, took her to a friend's house and raped her. He allegedly recorded a video of the crime. As the blackmail continued, the girl told her brother about her ordeal. He then took her to the police station and registered a complaint.

FIR filed after councillor's stamp misused to change Aadhaar addresses
Vadodara: A municipal councillor registered an offence at City police station on finding that her stamp had been misused to change addresses in Aadhaar records. The councillor found that three persons got their addresses changed in this manner. Hemisha Thakkar, a BJP councillor and member of the standing committee, learned from one Hardik Prajapati that her stamp being used on documents to change addresses in Aadhaar records. Prajapati said that he went to a shop, Diyaneeti Web Solutions, where discovered the alleged misuse. According to the FIR, Prajapati said that he went to the shop and asked for help in getting his address changed in Aadhaar records. Prajapati told the man at the shop that he did not any document to serve as proof of address. The man reportedly told Prajapati that he could get the change made, ostensibly by use of the councillor's stamp, for Rs 950. Prajapati then informed Thakkar, who told him to investigate further. Prajapati found that three persons had gotten their addresses changed in this manner, without having proof of address. Thakkar then registered the FIR at City police station against one Paresh, who runs Diyaneeti Web Solutions. He has been booked for forgery and use of forged documents.
