Could LeBron James force a trade to the Mavericks?
Right now, it is hard to imagine James demanding a trade anytime soon. But anything is certainly possible with him.
One would figure that if he does want out, he may opt to be traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, one of his former teams, or possibly the New York Knicks or even the Golden State Warriors. But Lakers beat writer Jovan Buha said on a recent episode of "Buha's Block" that there has been "buzz" about the Dallas Mavericks being a possible destination for the 40-year-old.
'I will say that there has been some LeBron-and-Dallas buzz going on a couple years now,' said Buha. 'Remember in the summer of 2023, right after Dallas had traded for Kyrie, there was that rumor out there that LeBron was gonna go to Dallas on a vet minimum contract and team up with Draymond [Green], and it was gonna be Luka, Kyrie, LeBron and Draymond. That, of course, did not happen. But there has been some buzz I will say in the general NBA ether over the last week or two with LeBron and Dallas.'
In some ways, Dallas would make a lot of sense for James. The team has Anthony Davis, the superstar big man with whom he won the NBA championship in 2020, as well as plenty of talent that it could give up in a potential trade. Dallas could hypothetically meet the Lakers' demands in such a deal and still have enough around James to contend for a championship.
Plus, Kyrie Irving, James' old All-Star teammate in Cleveland, is with the Mavericks. According to Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson, the two players talked two years ago about possibly teaming up in Dallas.
'Kyrie asked LeBron to find a way to come to the Dallas Mavericks,' a source familiar with the call told Robinson. 'At the end of their conversation, LeBron told him: 'I'll think about it.''
Right now, the Lakers haven't done much of note after the first official day of NBA free agency. Forward Dorian Finney-Smith left to join the Houston Rockets, and while they got an agreement from forward Jake LaRavia, they still have a need for at least one two-way wing and a dire need for help at the center position.
Paul made it clear that James wants to be able to win an NBA championship this coming season. If the Lakers strike out in free agency and on the trade market this summer, all eyes would be on James to see if he becomes upset enough to want out.

Watch: Luka Doncic casually hits halfcourt shot while looking very fit
After he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 1, Luka Doncic received a lot of criticism for being out of shape and not taking care of his fitness and conditioning. He still put up his usual outstanding numbers, but his ability to get up and down the court and stay in front of his man defensively was noticeably compromised. So far this offseason, there has been plenty of talk about how Doncic has apparently gotten in much better shape. He was seen several weeks ago looking noticeably slimmer, and according to one report, he has been "incredibly committed" to his health and conditioning. There is a new video of the Slovenian superstar on social media where he casually hits a halfcourt shot in an open gym, and people have noticed how slim and fit he looks. Lakers fans on X (formerly Twitter) are looking forward to a new and improved version of Doncic. Doncic is currently preparing to represent Slovenia in the upcoming EuroBasket tournament, which will start late in August and run through mid-September. While Brian Windhorst reported that Doncic may wait until afterward to sign a contract extension with the Lakers, a new report indicated that the superstar may get that extension done in early August before the tournament starts. He will be eligible for a four-year, $229 million extension on Aug. 2.

Phillies' Aaron Nola will make his first minor league rehab start on Thursday
NEW YORK (AP) — Philadelphia pitcher Aaron Nola will make his first injury rehabilitation start Thursday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley at Worcester as he works his way back from a sprained right ankle and fractured rib that have sidelined him since May. Nola threw batting practice on Friday. Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Saturday the 32-year-old right-hander will throw about 60 pitches in the Triple-A game. Nola hurt the ankle during agility drills on May 8. He made a pair of ineffective starts and was placed on the IL effective May 15. Nola threw a bullpen session June 1 and felt sore a few days later. An MRI showed a stress fracture of a rib, Thomson revealed June 10. On the IL for a physical injury for the first time since 2017, Nola was 1-7 with a 6.16 ERA in nine starts and 49 2/3 innings. Nick Castellanos sits after hurting knee Right fielder Nick Castellanos was out of the starting lineup Saturday, a day after getting hurt in the Phillies' 12-5 win over the Yankees . 'The last play last night where he went back towards the wall, just kind of jammed his left knee a little bit,' Thomson said. 'He came in a little bit sore today, so keep him out, see how he is tomorrow.' Alec Bohm update Alec Bohm is to meet up with the Phillies on Sunday, travel with the team to Chicago and be evaluated. Bohm broke a left rib when hit by a 92.2 mph Yu Darvish pitch at San Diego on July 12.
