Tahfiz student bound over for child sexual assault
Magistrate Normaizan Rahim made the order and also imposed a bail of RM3,000 after examining the boy's probation report, which was submitted by the Social Welfare Department (JKM), at the proceeding, held in camera, today.
The court had set today for the sentencing.
Apart from that, Magistrate Normaizan also ordered the boy, who is now 18 years old, to undergo an interactive workshop organised by JKM and imposed a condition for him to be accompanied by his parents during the workshop.
The boy, who was then 17 years old, was charged with committing sexual physical assault on the victim, who was 13 years and eight months old, in April last year.
The charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides a prison sentence of not more than 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
Lawyer A. Rahman Mohd Nasir represented the teenager, while the prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Norhidayah Abdullah Sani.

Sextortion syndicate: Six charged over teen trafficking and child abuse videos
JOHOR BARU: Five members of a sex-for-blackmail syndicate — including a minor — were charged in the Sessions Court here today with trafficking two teenagers and an adult man for exploitative labour and deception. Sham Chee Fei, 33; Kuek Pei Lin, 19; Lee Chun Kit, 28; Tommy Voo Tze Hau, 27; and a 17-year-old male juvenile pleaded not guilty when the charges were read before judge Thalha Bachok @ Embok Mok. According to the three charges, the accused allegedly trafficked a 15-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy, and a 26-year-old man at a house in Jalan Lagenda 34, Taman Lagenda Putra, Kulai, between March 23 and May 23. They were charged under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM), read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to life or a minimum of five years and whipping upon conviction. They also face charges under Section 12 of the same act, punishable with up to 20 years' jail and a fine. Separately, before judge Nor Aziati Jaafar, Kuek, Voo and the juvenile denied two more charges of producing child sexual abuse materials — videos and photos — featuring the same teenage victims. They face charges under Section 5 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum 30-year jail term and up to six strokes of the cane. In a related charge, Abdul Rahufur Rahim Idris, 30, pleaded not guilty to committing non-physical sexual assault by instructing the girl to perform sexual acts on the teenage boy. He was charged under Section 15(f) of the same act, which carries a maximum 10-year sentence, a fine up to RM20,000 or both. The offences allegedly took place between 6pm on May 22 and 5am on May 23 at the same Kulai house. Meanwhile, Lee faces an additional charge of possessing two videos and two images of child sexual abuse on his mobile phone on June 20. He claimed trial to the offence under Section 10 of the act, which is punishable with up to five years' jail, a RM10,000 fine or both. Deputy public prosecutors Nur Diyana Zubir and Nur Farah Wahida Shahudin led the prosecution. Defence lawyers Muhammad Abd Kadir and Gary Ng Boon Hui represented Sham, Voo, and Lee, while N. Moganeysha appeared for Rahufur, Kuek and the juvenile. Melaka trader, 27, remanded for assaulting, molesting stepdaughters
ALOR GAJAH: A 27-year-old trader suspected of molesting, assaulting and confining his two young stepdaughters has been remanded for seven days. The remand order was issued by magistrate Dr Teoh Shu Yee on Monday (July 14) to assist in investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. The incident came to light recently when the 25-year-old mother of the two daughters, aged five and six, took them out for a meal in Cheng near here. She then received a call from the suspect, her ex-husband, who requested to meet up. Suddenly, the eldest daughter began crying in fear and refused to see the suspect. The child claimed that their stepfather had frequently physically assaulted both her and her sister whenever their mother was not at home. The six-year-old victim later revealed that while she was in the bedroom, the suspect had allegedly molested her repeatedly. The victim also alleged that the suspect taped her mouth shut and locked her inside a box, before threatening her not to tell others about the incident. Both victims are currently receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka. A police team was dispatched on Sunday (July 13) to arrest the suspect from a residence near here following a report lodged by the mother at the Rembia police station the same day.

Police bust online sextortion syndicate, teenager among nine arrested
JOHOR BARU: Police have smashed a syndicate involved in online sex scams and extortion following the arrest of nine individuals, including two women and a teenager, in a series of raids under Op Bugil. The suspects, aged between 17 and 50, were detained during operations conducted from June 20 to July 1 in Johor Baru and Kulai area. Johor police chief Datuk M Kumar said the group, believed to be active since November last year, created fake social media accounts and used a female member to lure victims into explicit video calls. "The syndicate would send a link to the victim's phone. Once clicked, it allowed the syndicate access to the victim's contact list and photo gallery. "During the call, the victim would be coaxed into performing indecent acts, which were secretly recorded. The footage was then used to extort money from them." "Victims were usually blackmailed for between RM500 and RM1,000 per video call. If they refused, the syndicate would threaten to send the recording they had taken during the inappropriate video call to all those on the phone contact list, including family members." He said the syndicate also recruited local teenagers who had dropped out of school, offering salaries of between RM2,200 and RM4,000 a month. "These youths were trained before being sent abroad to countries such as Indonesia, Laos and Thailand." Kumar said during the raids, police also rescued three victims, including two teenagers aged 15 and 16. "These teens were forced to work long hours, up to 12 hours a day. They were confined, and any non-cooperative staff would be subjected to beatings. "Although some were given short breaks, their movements were monitored. Their phones and identity cards were kept by the syndicate and in case any of them wanted to leave, they were asked to pay RM30,000 to the syndicate." Items seized during the raids included 27 mobile phones, identification documents, flight tickets, currency exchange receipts, RM140 in cash, foreign currencies, laptops, 49 SIM cards, modems, employment books, a car and a remote-control device. The case is being investigated under Sections 5, 10 and 15(f) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017; Sections 12 and 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007; Regulation 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulations 1990; Section 12 (1)(f) of the Passport Act 1966; Section 324 of the Penal Code and Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966.
