Indonesian man charged with trafficking over 20kg of methamphetamine
KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian labourer was charged in the Ampang magistrate's court today with trafficking over 20kg of methamphetamine last month. Munzir Abdurrahman, 50, nodded when the charge was read out to him before magistrate Normaizan Rahim. However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Munzir was charged with trafficking 20,850g (20.85kg) of methamphetamine at the parking lot of a shopping mall in Taman Melawati here at 12.38pm on 22 June. The charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping of not less than 12 strokes if not sentenced to death upon conviction. The court fixed Oct 3 for mention to allow for the submission of the chemical report.

Munzir was charged with trafficking 20,850 grammes (20.85 kilogrammes) of methamphetamine at the parking lot of a shopping mall in Taman Melawati here at 12.38 pm on 22 June. On 25 June, the media reported that an Indonesian man was arrested at a shopping mall while walking with a canvas bag. Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said an inspection of the bag revealed a black plastic package containing 20 plastic packets, each filled with a substance believed to be methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM80,000.

Sexual assault: Tahfiz student placed on 2-year good behaviour bond
The Ampang Magistrate's Court has bound over a tahfiz student, who pleaded guilty to committing physical sexual assault on a child in Hulu Langat last year, on a two-year good behaviour bond. Magistrate Normaizan Rahim made the order and imposed a bail of RM3,000 after examining the boy's probation report, which was submitted by the Social Welfare Department, at today's sentencing hearing, held in camera.

Physical sexual assault: Tahfiz student bound over on two-year good behaviour bond
KUALA LUMPUR: A tahfiz student who pleaded guilty to committing physical sexual assault on a child of a staff member of a tahfiz centre in Hulu Langat in April last year was bound over on a two-year good behaviour bond by the Ampang Magistrate's Court here today. Magistrate Normaizan Rahim made the order and also imposed a bail of RM3,000 after examining the boy's probation report, which was submitted by the Social Welfare Department (JKM), at the proceeding, held in camera, today. The court had set today for the sentencing. Apart from that, Magistrate Normaizan also ordered the boy, who is now 18 years old, to undergo an interactive workshop organised by JKM and imposed a condition for him to be accompanied by his parents during the workshop. The boy, who was then 17 years old, was charged with committing sexual physical assault on the victim, who was 13 years and eight months old, in April last year. The charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides a prison sentence of not more than 20 years and whipping upon conviction. Lawyer A. Rahman Mohd Nasir represented the teenager, while the prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Norhidayah Abdullah Sani.
