PETALING JAYA : A lorry driver was sentenced to 20 years in prison and 20 strokes of the cane by the Klang sessions court today after he pleaded guilty to two counts of raping his daughter.
The victim was 10 and 11 years old at the time of the incidents in November 2024 and May this year, reported Berita Harian.
The court also ordered the 37-year-old man to undergo counselling and be placed under police supervision for two years after serving his prison term.
The sentence was handed down by judge Siti Aminah Ghazali, who sentenced the man to 10 years in prison and 10 strokes of the rotan for each charge, with the jail terms to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on June 14.
The charges were framed under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years and 10 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
The accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, pleaded for a reduced sentence, saying that he wanted to change and continue supporting his two children and wife.
'I deeply regret my actions and have repented. I will never do it again. I hope the court will hear what I have to say and reduce my sentence,' he said.
However, deputy public prosecutor Nurul Jannah Aimi urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, stressing the seriousness of the offence and the rising number of child sexual abuse cases in Selangor.
'As the biological father, the accused had a duty to care for and raise the victim (his daughter), but he betrayed that trust through his vile actions,' she said.

Jempol religious school teacher gets six years in jail, caning for sexually assaulting pupils

SEREMBAN: A 38-year-old religious school teacher was sentenced to six years in jail by the Sessions Court here after he pleaded guilty to 12 charges of committing physical sexual assault and carnal intercourse against the order of nature against pupils under his care. Mohd Khairi Fitri Baharom, who was also a warden at the school in Jempol, was also ordered to be caned four times by Judge Surita Budin. The accused was charged with committing the offences against the seven young victims between March 2024 and January this year. His victims were then between eight and 13 years of age. The offences were committed at a house in Juasseh in Kuala Pilah, the student's hostel and the warden's room. The accused was slapped with six charges under Section 377C of the Penal Code for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature which carries a jail term of between five and 20 years and whipping. Six other charges were under Sections 14(a) and (b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping. Judge Surita sentenced the accused to a total of 36 years in jail for six charges and ruled the others as offences taken into consideration (TIC). However, the accused will only serve six years as these are to run concurrently. TIC is where the accused agrees to plead guilty to some charges in exchange for the prosecution dropping other charges or agreeing to TIC. Judge Surita also ordered the accused to undergo counselling after completing his jail term. He would also remain under police surveillance for one year. Earlier, lawyer Ahmad Loqman Hakim Ahmad Khairie, who represented the accused, pleaded for a minimum punishment as he had saved the court's time and cost by pleading guilty. He said the accused, who was the second of four siblings, was a bachelor and had to look after his old mother. However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi pressed for a stern punishment as the accused had committed a heinous crime against young children. "He may have pleaded guilty but public interest takes priority over his. "Although he was their teacher, he took the advantage to commit these despicable crimes against them to fulfil his sexual desires," she said. Nurul Balkis, who was assisted by Norazihah Asmuni, said the court had to mete out a stern punishment as a deterrent to others.

Sibu police open sexual harassment probe into man known as ‘Small Apple' for sending lewd messages to two women

SIBU, July 30 — A man known as 'Small Apple' has landed on the police radar after allegedly harassing women online by sending them explicit images and videos. Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said two women have come forward to lodge reports over the disturbing incidents, which are being treated as cases of sexual harassment and exploitation. 'The first report was lodged on July 25 by a 33-year-old woman, who claimed she met the suspect at a wedding in 2022. 'Throughout a year of acquaintance, he allegedly sent her private lewd images under the pretext of seeking her opinion,' he said in a statement last night. Zulkipli said that the second report came a day later from a 40-year-old woman. 'The second complainant said that their conversation initially revolved around health matters before the suspect suddenly sent her explicit photos and videos,' he said. Police have opened an investigation under Section 509 of the Penal Code for acts intended to insult a person's modesty, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction. Zulkipli urged those with information on the suspect to contact investigating officer Insp Magdaline on 019-8153727 or head to the nearest police station. 'We take this matter seriously as such online sexual exploitation is worrying, and we encourage other victims to come forward,' he added. — The Borneo Post
