Authorities inspect flood-affected villages, ensure relief measures

Kanpur: Senior district authorities inspected Gadatha village in Ghatampur Tehsil, affected by the rising water level of the Yamuna on Friday. Upon reaching the village, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, accompanied by his subordinates, interacted with the residents and listened to their grievances.
He assured them of all possible assistance and instructed the relevant departments to carry out prompt relief and rescue operations. DM stated that district administration is monitoring the flood situation 24/7.
Checkpoints have been established in the affected villages to ensure proper arrangements for safe accommodation of the residents. He instructed the officials to set up a special health camp in the village, prepare a list of children, elderly, women, and men based on the village population, and ensure their medical examination and treatment.
The availability of anti-snake venom and necessary medicines should be ensured in the village.
The Basic Education Officer was instructed to operate temporary schools for children at Shri Natthu Singh Parmar Memorial Public School, and provide food and drinking water also.
The sub-divisional magistrate of Ghatampur was directed to assign personnel for the distribution of relief materials in all flood-affected villages and to establish flood relief centres.

These centres should also provide mobile charging facilities. Executive engineer of Flood Control, Manoj Kumar Singh, informed the DM that the rate of increase in the Yamuna's water level slowed down. Recognising the seriousness of the situation, the DM arranged for her to be taken out by boat and instructed the health department to provide immediate and appropriate treatment.

In Ballia, the river level was recorded above 59.65-metre mark against the HFL of 60.39 metres. Against the HFL of 80.34 metres, the river was at 78.37-metre mark in Mirzapur. The officials in Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Chandauli, Ghazipur, and Ballia are monitoring the flood-affected areas while continuing the relief and rescue operations. Flooded roads leave city stranded

Water logging at several places resulted in movement of normal traffic being badly hit on Monday. According to the Indian Meteorological Department and CSA observatory, the city received around 43.8 mm of rain till 8am on Monday. However, rains stopped around 1pm. Thereafter, people came out on roads and found themselves stuck at several places and most of them returned back to their homes. Several of them faced awkward situations when their vehicles' got stuck in waterlogged road. There was a jam-like situation at Govind Nagar, Shastri Nagar, P Road, Pony Road, Fazal Ganj, Rawatpur Sarsaul, Bidhanu Naubastaa Bara Chauraha, Baqar Mandi, etc. At Govind Nagar, water entered into the shops. Juhi railway under bridge, was filled with rainy, sewer water and sludge. As a result, the short and important route to connect South Kanpur was cut off. One injured was admitted to the hospital. One woman died at Jajmau mound. One Mohd Shafeeq and his wife Anees Fatima were living with their two sons in a mud wall house. The debris of the mound fell on their house and both Shafeeq and Anees were caved in the debris. Ludhiana records coolest July in 15 years amid higher rainfall
Ludhiana: This July was not as unforgiving as usual for the district. In fact, the generally sultry month turned out to be the coolest in 15 years, with the district recording its lowest average maximum temperature since 2011. Meteorological experts attribute the welcome change to above-normal rainfall this monsoon. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ludhiana received 180.3 mm of rainfall in July, 9% more than the normal average for the district. This marks a significant improvement from July, 2024, when rainfall was just 85.5mm, nearly 48% below normal. The highest July rainfall since 2000 was recorded in 2022, with 297.8mm.
