South Park faces major blow after 2-year wait for new season
The future of the long running animated series is yet to be decided, with the end of its Paramount deal and talks with other streamers.
The show's current home, Comedy Central, had originally touted the release of season 27 for July 9 but this has now been pushed back to July 23.
In a statement on X the co-creators wrote: 'This merger is a s**tshow and it's f**king up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.'
After the delay announcement, Comedy Central also released a new poster for the season with a host of returning characters including Jesus.
Negotiations are ongoing to see where the iconic and controversial show will land, with Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery in the running.
Jeff Shell – who will become president of Paramount if its merger with Skydance goes through – has now been accused of interfering in contract negotiations.
According to a letter seen by The Hollywood Reporter, Parker and Stone's Park County entertainment company has threatened legal action.
An attorney for the duo has accused Shell of trying to get Netflix and WBD to alter certain details in their offer in a 'manner calculated to benefit Paramount at the expense' of the company.
One accusation includes Shell allegedly trying to get WBD to give Paramount+ an exclusive 12-month window for new South Park episodes, with a five-year deal rather than 10, which could lessen its value amid talks.
In the letter, the attorney says: 'We hereby demand that you, Redbird, and Skydance immediately cease your interference.
'If these activities continue, we will have no choice but to act to both protect our rights and discharge any obligations we may have to the public.'
However, a Skydance spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter in a statement: 'Under the terms of the transaction agreement, Skydance has the right to approve material contracts.'

As it stands, there are two years left on Paramount's $900million (£661.7m) deal, and there are talks to extend that to bring South Park to Paramount+.
Paramount, Parker and Stone all operate South Park Digital Studios, which is the owner of the show's streaming rights.
This structure has caused issues with negotiations, along with Skydance awaiting approval for its acquisition of Paramount.
Until the merger is official, the firm cannot take control or issue directives, due to federal antitrust laws.
Afshin Beyzaee, general counsel at Park County, is said to have written in the letter to Shell: 'You did this behind Park County's back. 'That self-dealing would have been absolutely restricted if it were done by Paramount itself.
'So, it is simply outrageous that even before it has been granted the authority to close the merger with Paramount, Redbird and Skydance are jumping the gun and using confidential information of SPDS to purport to make demands on behalf of SPDS that even Paramount has no right to make.'
The South Park Digital Studios board of managers includes Paramount's Comedy Partners, which has limited rights to act. More Trending
Park County has argued that Shell 'had no right or authority to be demanding that SPDS's prospective counterparties make modifications to their proposals, especially modifications that would depress the value of their proposals'.

Horror fans' 'childhood trauma reactivated' after Stephen King series trailer

Welcome to Derry is a prequel series for King's IT, which follows an evil shape-shifting being that preys on the children of Derry every 27 years. It has been adapted for the big screen before, first in 1990 with Tim Curry taking on the role of the villainous Pennywise, and again in 2017 and 2019 with Bill Skarsgard taking over from the Rocky Horror Picture Show star. The TV adaptation for HBO is set in the 1960s, before the introduction of the Losers Club that takes Pennywise down once and for all. Ahead of its release in October, a second trailer for the show has dropped, teasing the signature nightmare fuel that comes with It. The two-minute teaser begins with a new family moving to the quiet town of Derry, but it doesn't take them long to realise there's something very strange going on in the town. 'Derry is a beautiful place, but things do happen from time to time,' a woman says, and she's certainly not wrong, as it doesn't take long for missing children's posters to begin appearing. A group of children begins researching the disappearance of one of their friends, placing them in mortal danger, signalled by an ominous, floating red balloon that fans of the franchise will be very accustomed to. We get a quick glimpse of Skarsgard's return to the role of Pennywise as the dancing clown lurks in the shadows with glowing yellow eyes – enough to give anyone nightmares. There are links to King's other work, with a quick flash of a Shawshank State Prison bus from his novel Shawshank Redemption, as well as the novella Rita Hayworth. We also see Chris Chalk's character Dick Hallorann, who fans of The Shining will know as the head chef of the Overlook Hotel and the man who explains the shining ability to young Danny Torrance. Fans were quick to take to social media to air their thoughts, with many saying it looks 'insane' and 'terrifying.' 'This prequel is gonna set the spooky bar high,' Kittu said, while Titli posted: 'The red balloons are back and so is the trauma.' Giii echoed the same sentiment, writing: 'childhood fear reactivated again. Thanks HBO.' Dp_burner added: 'finally a show that understands my fear of clowns is completely rational 🗡️ gonna need some new nightmares anyway.' Season one hasn't hit our screens yet, and producer and episode director Andrés Muschietti – who also helmed the It remake films – has teased what fans can expect from subsequent seasons. Speaking to Radio TU, he revealed: 'It's a story that's based on the interludes of the book. The interludes are basically chapters that reflect Mike Hanlon's research. They're fragments of his research. 'For 27 years, it's the guy trying to figure out what it is, what did it, who did it, who saw it, and all that stuff… So they talk about catastrophic events from the past, like the fire in the Black Spot…. the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a gang of bank robbers in the '30s… and the explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks. Hotel worker almost trampled by ‘stampede' of guests rushing for sunbeds

The scene was captured by Liam Pourhana as the combatants ran into the arena after the employee unlocked for the day. The worker dropped his keycard and 'dared' to pick it back up as the race commenced. Liam and his friend, Paul Nygaard, both engineers from South Shields, Tyne and Wear, managed to get to the front of the queue by arriving at the gates at 6.30am. Liam said that more than 100 people were waiting for the rush to the pool – despite the gates only being opened at 8am. The pair entered the daily sunbed wars on July 20 during their stay at the four-star Spring Bitácora Hotel in Tenerife. Liam wrote on Facebook: 'The security guard dared to pick his key card back up haha.' Liam appeared to be second in the race, as guests ran to the poolside with towels tucked under their arms. 'After paying £5,000 to stay here, it's a joke getting up earlier than you would for work,' he told Luxury Daily Travel. 'If you don't get up and get in the queue, you're not getting a sunbed. 'You have to queue from 6:30am, despite the pool gate not opening until 8am. About 100 people rushed towards the beds, some were even throwing towels over people's shoulders to beat them. 'The security guard dropped his card and didn't want to risk the stampede.' In another video, he provided evidence of his prowess in the sunbed games, writing: 'Me at the front smoking it. First towel down.' More Trending One person exclaimed: 'You've gotta proper leg it for a bed?!' Another competitor took the holidaymaker to task, saying 'I have a nice lie in' before removing towels where there are no people. The person asked: 'How you gonna prove it's your chair?'
