Chennai:
AIADMK
general secretary
Edappadi K Palaniswami
on Saturday issued an indirect invitation to TVK to join the AIADMK-led alliance for the 2026 assembly election after actor
Vijay
said he would neither align with BJP nor
DMK
.
Palaniswami said those who wish to defeat DMK can join hands with him.
"Our only intention is to remove DMK govt, which is anti-people. Those parties who have the same intention should join hands with us and face the election. We are happy to align with such political parties, and they too should cooperate with us," Palaniswami said while interacting with reporters at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai. He was responding to a question on whether AIADMK would invite TVK to join its alliance to defeat DMK.
Asked about Vijay's remarks that he would not align with DMK or BJP, EPS said, "Only Vijay should be asked about this and not AIADMK."

Palaniswami released details of his state-wide tour programmes titled 'Makkalai Kappom, Tamizhagathai Meetpom' (We will save people and get back Tamil Nadu), which is set to start at Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district on July 7 (Monday). The logo and song of the campaign were also released on Saturday at the party headquarters.
"This is not merely an election campaign but to root out DMK," Palaniswami said.
Criticizing DMK's 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' campaign, Palaniswami said, "DMK has been pushed to a pathetic situation. It has been forced to knock on every door to add members. In every party, people would join voluntarily, but DMK is approaching every house and asking people to join the party."
EPS wrote a letter to the people of the state, saying "under DMK there has been much distress in the past four years that people of all sections were affected". The objective of 'Makkalai Kappom, Tamizhagathai Meetpom' campaign is to defeat DMK and form an AIADMK govt with absolute majority, he said.

I was disrespected at temple: Selvaperunthagai

Chennai: TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai on Tuesday said he was treated with disrespect at the Vallakottai Murugan temple consecration in Kancheepuram despite arriving on time. The DMK allies called for action against HR&CE officials while minister P K Sekarbabu visited the Congress leader and assured action. "The minister expressed regret for the incident," Selvaperunthagai said. The controversy related to the consecration ceremony of the temple, which took place after 17 years. Former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundarajan, Selvaperunthagai, and DMK (Anna Nagar) MLA M K Mohan were among those in attendance. Selvaperunthagai said he wasn't treated with the respect an elected representative deserved. "It is customary for the elected representatives to flag off the temple consecration ceremony by standing on top of the Temple Vimana, and it happens that way in all temple festivals. But during this festival, the HR&CE officials flagged it off. Similarly, there was no one to even guide me and take me to the appropriate places. None of the protocols were followed," he told TOI. Sources in the HR&CE department said officials concerned submitted a report to the higher-ups saying the Congress leader arrived late and missed the prayers, despite priests waiting for him for 30 minutes. Selvaperunthagai denied these accusations. "I was asked to come at 8.30am, and I reached the temple at 8.15am. I was waiting in the temple storeroom to participate in the prayers, but there was no one there to accompany me because of which I had to leave. Some have an ancient mindset." CPI state secretary R Mutharasan said, "This is against social justice, and stringent action should be taken against officials who are responsible for the incident." CPM state secretary P Shanmugam said Selvaperunthagai's caste (SC), was the reason for the alleged discrimination. VCK MP D Ravikumar called for abolition of discrimination in temples.

DMK functionaries gherao minister in party event, refuse to allow him

Pudukottai: Tension prevailed for a while in the DMK's booth level agents (BLA) meeting in Pudukottai on Tuesday as party functionaries and cadres gheraoed DMK's principal secretary K N Nehru and refused to let him in. They demanded changes in the party's urban district unit leadership. In a similar event at a different location, functionaries expressed their dissatisfaction over the district-level leaders constantly sidelining the backward class welfare minister Siva V Meyyanathan, an MLA representing the Alangudi constituency in the district. Sources said that the BLA meeting for the north and south districts of Pudukottai DMK was conducted in two different wedding halls in the town. The meeting for the north district was organised by the district secretary K K Chellapandian and for the south district by the secretary and minister for natural resources S Regupathy. When municipal administration minister Nehru entered the south district meeting venue, supporters of Meyyanathan expressed dissatisfaction over the south district's leadership for constantly ignoring the MLA's images in the party's banners. Later, during the meeting for the north district unit, a section of ward secretaries gheraoed Nehru, seeking the in-charge of the DMK urban district unit, Rajesh, to be removed. The functionaries who blocked Nehru from entering the venue said that they would not leave the party, as they have worked hard. Though the minister invited the functionaries for a talk, the protesters refused to allow the minister inside the hall and raised their dissent. Party sources said that Nehru informed the functionaries that their demands shall be taken to the notice of the CM and deputy CM for a solution during their upcoming visit to Trichy.

Foreigners Tribunal notice: Mamata calls for joint fight against BJP's ‘divisive' policies

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said she was shocked and disturbed to learn that the Foreigners Tribunal in Assam had issued a notice to a resident of Dinhata in Cooch Behar, declaring him an illegal migrant. Ms. Banerjee claimed that a premeditated attempt is being made to 'intimidate, disenfranchise, and target' marginalised communities. Terming the situation 'alarming', the Trinamool Congress chairperson urged all Opposition parties to unite against what she described as the BJP's 'divisive and oppressive machinery'. 'Bengal will not stand by as the constitutional fabric of India is torn apart,' Ms. Banerjee posted on social media platform X. Ms. Banerjee highlighted the case of Uttam Kumar Brajabasi, a Rajbanshi and resident of Dinhata for over five decades, who has received the notice from Assam, despite never having lived there. She described the notice as 'nothing short of a systematic assault on democracy'. The Chief Minister said the resident was being harassed on suspicion of being a 'foreigner/illegal migrant' despite submitting valid identity documents. She accused the BJP-led government in Assam of trying to 'implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Bengal, where it has no jurisdiction'. The incident comes amid reports of migrant workers from West Bengal, working in various parts of the country, being covertly pushed into Bangladesh with the involvement of security agencies. More than half a dozen such workers have been brought back after intervention by the West Bengal government. Ms. Banerjee also raised concerns over the revision of electoral rolls in neighbouring Bihar, accusing the Election Commission of attempting to implement the NRC 'through the back door'. Mr. Brajabasi told journalists that neither he nor his forefathers had ever visited Assam. He has also approached the local Block Development Office with all his citizenship documents. 'False narrative' BJP West Bengal general secretary Jagannath Chattopadhyay claimed a 'false narrative' was being spread by Ms. Banerjee regarding a notice allegedly issued by a court in Assam. He said that the Assam Chief Minister had already decided to exclude the Koch-Rajbanshi community from the NRC process and that the State Cabinet had resolved to withdraw all pending NRC-related cases against them. 'DGPAssamPolice, take strong action against those who are igniting social disharmony in West Bengal,' he posted on X.
