12th-seeded Oklahoma beats No. 5 Georgia in SEC Baseball Tournament
Dayton Tockey hit an RBI groundout to break a sixth-inning tie and Brayden Horton followed with what would be the game-winning RBI single as 12th-seeded Oklahoma beat fifth-seeded Georgia in the Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament second round Wednesday, 3-2.
The Bulldogs brought the potential tying run to the plate three times in the ninth inning. But OU closer Dylan Crooks retired three of the four batters he faced to finish things.
Oklahoma ace Kyson Witherspoon kept the Bulldogs at bay for most of his 7 2/3 innings. He allowed the game's first run on a sacrifice fly in the third and a second run in the seventh on a solo home, but ultimately that was all he gave up in surrendering five hits with no walks while striking out eight.
After Georgia opened the scoring, Oklahoma immediately responded with Horton's sacrifice fly in the next half-frame. He was able to get it after Easton Carmichael singled to start the inning and Jaxon Willits moved him to third base with a double.
The Bulldogs' loss eliminates them from the tournament and may have been enough to keep them from earning a national seed in next week's NCAA Tournament. Georgia is still likely to host, however.
If Oklahoma keeps winning, the Sooners may re-enter the hosting conversation. Regardless, it seems OU is likely to land as second-seed in a different NCAA Tournament Regional next week. In the meantime, Oklahoma readies for its quarterfinal game in the SEC Tournament on Thursday against No. 4-seed Vanderbilt. OU took two of three from the Commodores during the regular season in Normal.

LSU football misses on top tight end target, losing to SEC rival

LSU football missed on one of its top tight end targets as four-star Brayden Fogle committed to Georgia on Friday. Fogle broke the news on social media. Fogle selected the Bulldogs out of a top three that also included the Tigers and Penn State. The four-star prospect took official visits to all three at the end of May and into June. Advertisement On3's Industry Rankings rank Fogle as the No. 10 tight end in the 2026 cycle. 247Sports is the highest on Fogle, slotting him at No. 132 overall. Both outlets put him at No. 7 or higher of recruits in Ohio. With Fogle off the board, the Tigers are left with few quality tight-end targets left in the 2026 cycle. They likely need to put effort into flipping an already committed prospect if the position is still a priority. If LSU doesn't find luck at the high school level, the Tigers will make an aggressive push for transfer portal tight ends after the season. LSU's 2026 class ranks No. 6 in the nation and No. 3 in the SEC following Fogle's decision, according to On3's Industry Rankings. Wisconsin football sees notable class of 2026 target commit to Missouri

Wisconsin football class of 2026 target, safety Tony Forney Jr., committed to Missouri on Friday. Forney chose the Tigers over a group of finalists that also included Wisconsin, Georgia, Auburn and Pittsburgh. Advertisement 247Sports lists the hotly pursued safety as a three-star recruit. He's specifically ranked as the No. 747 player in the class of 2026, the No. 67 safety and the No. 85 player from the state of Georgia. Prior to announcing his verbal commitment, Forney took official visits to Missouri on May 30 and to Wisconsin on June 13. His extensive offer sheet also included Arizona State, Duke, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kansas State, Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and West Virginia. Forney joins a Missouri class of 2026 that currently ranks No. 72 in the nation with just 10 players committed. That group is also the 15th-ranked of 16 SEC classes, leading only Auburn (No. 84 overall, seven commitments). Wisconsin's class of 2026, meanwhile, ranks No. 43 nationally with 15 players committed. That group recently received a major boost with commitments from blue-chip offensive playmakers Jayden Petit and Amari Latimer. However, it is still the Big Ten's No. 14-ranked class at this late stage of the process. Advertisement The Badgers will need a flurry of blue-chip commitments if they are to threaten the nation's top 25 -- a standing the program has held in each of the last two recruiting cycles.
