Shkoon Releases ‘SOUF' Merging Electronic Sound With Sufi Chants
Apr 11, 2025
Shkoon, the Syrian-German duo known for weaving Arabic melodies into Western electronic frameworks, returns with a new single titled 'SOUF'—a deeply atmospheric track that bridges traditional Sufi chants with electronic sound design. The release is the latest from their forthcoming EP 'Greater Than One', set to explore themes of unity, reflection, and spiritual grounding.
Built around vocal invocations like 'Ya Madad' (Oh help) and 'Ya Jamil' (Oh beautiful), the track reinterprets classical phrases of divine appeal through a contemporary sonic lens. Instead of overpowering the source material, Shkoon allows the spiritual weight of the chants to rise through layered textures and carefully restrained beats, crafting a soundscape that feels both ancient and immediate.
The track unfolds gradually, favouring tension and atmosphere over rhythm-heavy momentum. It pulls listeners into a trance-like space, inviting stillness, introspection, and a rare kind of emotional clarity.
According to Shkoon, 'Greater Than One' aims to reconnect people—to themselves, to their communities, and to something greater. In that context, 'SOUF' feels less like a standalone single and more like a spiritual overture. It speaks to the duo's broader vision: one where sound becomes a medium for healing and remembrance in a disjointed world.

Azza Fahmy Brings Jewellery & Craft to Egypt's North Coast This Summer
This summer, Azza Fahmy returns to Egypt's North Coast with seasonal spaces in Marassi, Almaza, and Diplo, each built around jewellery, design, and a newly introduced café concept. Jul 24, 2025 Azza Fahmy is back on Egypt's North Coast this summer with three distinct spaces in Marassi Marina, Almaza Bay, and Diplo — each shaped around a different experience. From private jewellery viewings to hands-on workshops and a new food concept, the brand's summer program draws from the legacy of design that has defined it for decades. In Marassi, the focus is on High Jewellery. Appointments can be scheduled for private viewings of the house's most intricate pieces, which include handpicked stones and finely worked details that reflect the craftsmanship Azza Fahmy is known for. Diplo reopens with a redesigned boutique and something unexpected: Craft by Cult, a café concept developed by the brand. The space serves a short, design-conscious food and drink menu — including an iced sugarcane matcha that's already become a signature — within an interior shaped by the house's visual language. Creative sessions are also running in Diplo and Almaza through the DSAF (Design Studio by Azza Fahmy) Sahel Edition. This season's focus is on making beaded sunglass chains — a casual, hands-on introduction to jewellery techniques that puts design directly in the hands of guests. The summer coincides with the release of Wonders of Nature, a new collection by Amina Ghali inspired by travels across Southeast Asia. Floral motifs — including lotus, jasmine, and daisy — appear alongside Arabic calligraphy, all cast in 18k gold and sterling silver. The pieces reflect the kind of detailed storytelling that has long shaped the brand's aesthetic. To mark International Friendship Day on July 30th, the house is celebrating the Never Apart bracelet, a piece that speaks to enduring relationships and lasting connection, no matter the distance.

SCMR bans Maha El-Sagheer from media for 6 months, refers case to prosecution
The Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) on Wednesday banned Maha El-Sagheer from appearing in the media for six months over violations of intellectual property rights, and referred the case to the Public Prosecution. The SCMR reprimanded the Ma'akum Mona El-Shazly team for neglecting basic due diligence during production. The decisions were made during a meeting chaired by Khaled Abdel Aziz, in which the council approved referring the case to the Public Prosecution per Articles 138/1, 139, and 140/9 of Law No. 82 of 2002 on intellectual property, as well as Articles 69/5 and 70/3 of Law No. 180 of 2018 regulating press, media, and the SCMR. The council's intervention follows growing controversy in recent days after El-Sagheer appeared on the programme and presented artworks she claimed as her own. It was later revealed that the pieces were copied from international artists. Three artists — Danish artist Lisa Nelson, French artist Cédric, and German artist Caroline Wendelin — publicly accused El-Sagheer of plagiarizing their work during her appearance on Ma'akum Mona El-Shazly. The incident sparked widespread criticism on social media, prompting media personality Mona El-Shazly to issue a public apology via an Instagram story addressed to the three artists.
