Sidhharrth S Kumaar is an astrologer, relationship coach, and psychic. He works with NumroVani, a Gurugram-based numerology company with a mission to 'empower businesses and individuals'. With over six years of experience, Kumaar has built a loyal following - both in real life and across social media.
He consults more than 100 clients every month, most of whom are between the ages of 24 and 35. But his youngest client? Just 8. A growing number of teenagers and young adults are reaching out to him - often struggling with relationship challenges or grappling with identity issues.
"A 25-year-old came to me asking, 'Why am I here?' and 'What's my purpose?' Their North Node was in the 9th house, which indicates a deep connection to travel, philosophy, and teaching. They left the session with tears in their eyes - not because they were lost, but because they finally realised they were simply being redirected," Kumaar shares.
He also recalls a 14-year-old girl who had just come out of a brief but intense relationship. "She wanted to know why she gets so emotionally attached to people," he says.
Stories like these - of people stuck in confusion about relationships, careers, or life - reflect a growing trend: young Indians are turning to spirituality to make sense of their inner chaos and emotional blocks, often using it as a way to disconnect from an overwhelming reality.
With technology, AI, and social media, guidance is now just a few taps away. Whether you're scrolling through an astrology app or texting your personal astrologer for advice - you're far from alone.
What The Numbers Reveal
Data paints the same picture.
A 2024 study by NumroVani found that 51% of young Indians seek astrological insights daily. Around 88% read horoscopes at least once a week, and 75% rely on astrology for matters of the heart.
Digital astrology is booming, with platforms like Astrotalk and AstroVed offering AI-powered, personalised horoscopes and matchmaking services. The online astrology market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 14%, reaching over USD 750 million (approx. Rs 6,200 crore) by 2025.
The pandemic only accelerated this trend - with online consultations rising by 20-25% in 2021 alone.
Even traditional religious events are seeing a Gen Z revival. The recently concluded Kumbh Mela was attended by more than 400 million people - and a significant portion of them were young Indians.
India's spiritual economy is evolving too. No longer limited to temple visits, it now includes digital services like virtual puja s, online pilgrimages, and astrology consultations. The religious and spiritual market was valued at USD 58.56 billion (approx. Rs 4.86 lakh crore) in 2023 and is growing at nearly 10% annually.
Why Religion And Astrology Are Cool Again
Millennials, for the most part, ran away from tradition. They chased career highs, buried themselves in long working hours, and quietly navigated mental health struggles without help.
Gen Z, however, is rewriting the rules: embracing incense sticks, affirmations, gratitude lists, healing crystals, and birth charts. And they're doing it with pride.
"There's no doubt - it's not just making a comeback, it's probably the next FOMO. Soon, people won't ask if you went out on the weekend - they'll ask if you aligned your karma for it," laughs Vanya Mishra, CEO and Co-founder of AstroSure AI, an app offering AI-powered astrology insights.
According to Mishra, millennials buried spirituality under ambition and burnout. "But Gen Z? They're out of the rat race. They're in their own lane. For them, trauma healing is a priority. Millennials and their parents never even spoke about familial trauma - Gen Z wears it like a badge of honour," she says.
Mental health expert Yuvette D'Sa agrees.
"Gen Z understands both the empowering and problematic parts of religion. They don't just accept it blindly. They take what works for them - what gives them peace," she explains.
In her view, this generation is honouring Indian traditions by reshaping them to fit modern realities.
Kumaar sees Gen Z as trendsetters. "They're leading the digital revival of ancient sciences. Even late millennials - sandwiched between Gen Z and their parents - are beginning to turn inward because of it," he says.
Mishra adds, "Social media has supercharged curiosity. And it's not just in India - the West is getting hooked on Vedic astrology too."
Add Social Media To The Mix
A quick scroll through Instagram will show you just how trendy astrology has become. Memes based on sun signs, retrograde rants, and celebrities sharing their spiritual routines - the stars are literally everywhere.
Spiritual gurus like Premanand Govind Sharan (we all have seen his videos, he has 27.3 million followers on Instagram), or Aniruddhacharya Mahara, AKA 'Pookie Baba' (3.6 million followers on Instagram) are also becoming a part of this discourse with their own Instagram account sharing candid moments of wisdom. They further bring Gen Z and other younger generation's attention to religion and spirituality who follow Instagram religiously.

"Big names like Virat and Anushka, even Dua Lipa, are openly embracing astrology. That visibility is making spirituality aspirational again," says Mishra.
And whatever is on social media and your stars follow is cool, right?
'Astrology Isn't A Trend Anymore - It's A Lifestyle Shift'
What was once seen as superstition is now a daily part of self-care routines. From planning projects around moon phases to reciting affirmations during yoga, astrology is increasingly becoming second nature for many young Indians.
"Young people today are using astrology and spirituality as tools to shape their identity and guide major life decisions - from careers to relationships, finance to health. For many, astrologers are their go-to advisors," Kumaar explains.
Even choices like buying a wristwatch are being made based on astrological remedies now.
At AstroSure.ai, Mishra and her team created Agastyaa - an AI-powered astrological assistant - in response to rising demand for personalised, tech-savvy spiritual tools.
The app's user data supports this shift. "Over 50% of our users are Gen Z. Relationship queries dominate. They chat with us late into the night, asking about their futures or just seeking emotional comfort," Mishra shares.
Kumaar sees a similar pattern. "Roughly 73-74% of my recent consultations have been with young people. Once trust is built, they come back - some every week."
According to him, astrology provides a safe, unbiased space for reflection. "It acts like a mirror, one that doesn't judge you. In relationships, friendships, even work teams, people are seeking energy alignment more than logic," Kumaar says.
Mishra believes this shift is only going to grow, "Let's be real. Looking at the state of the world, turning inward might just be the coolest thing you can do right now. If something makes you feel better, or helps you grow - why wouldn't you do it?"
Well, Gen Z seems to echo him.

Realty firm Sobha Ltd has reported an 11 per cent increase in sales bookings to a record ₹2,078.8 crore in the first quarter of this fiscal year as housing demand continues to be strong. Its sales bookings or pre-sales stood at ₹1,873.7 crore in the year-ago period. The Bengaluru-based company sold 14.44 lakh sq ft area in April-June period of this financial year as against 11.75 lakh sq ft, according to a regulatory filing on Monday. During the June quarter, Sobha completed 1.07 million sq ft of saleable area and delivered 594 homes across projects. Sobha said the company has achieved its "highest-ever quarterly real estate sales value of ₹2,079 crore, crossing the ₹2,000 crore milestone for the first time." The company attributed various facto₹for robust demand, including urban migration, record commercial space absorption, stronger consumer and investor confidence, declining interest rates, and growing home ownership aspirations. Sobha launched two housing projects during the April-June period, one in Greater Noida and one in Kochi. In Greater Noida, the company has launched a project 'Sobha Aurum' spread across 3.46 acres with a total saleable area of 701,051 sq ft. The project comprises 420 apartments. Sobha Ltd will invest around ₹800 crore to develop this luxury housing project in Greater Noida. Sobha, one of the leading real estate develope₹in the country, has delivered around 145 million sq ft since its inception. The company has a presence in 13 cities.

Jane Street slams Sebi allegations, plans to contest ban and impounding order

New York-based global proprietary trading firm Jane Street has strongly criticised India's market regulator Sebi over its recent enforcement action, calling the accusations 'extremely inflammatory' and stating it is 'beyond disappointed' by the order. The firm, which is among the largest players on Wall Street, said in a mail to its employees that it is preparing a formal response to the Securities and Exchange Board of India's (Sebi) decision, which includes a ban on the firm's market participation and an order to impound Rs 4,843 crore in what the regulator described as 'unlawful gains'. Jane Street rejected the market watchdog's charge that it was involved in 'an intentional, well planned, and sinister scheme' to manipulate Indian markets through its derivatives trades, especially in Nifty Index futures. The firm asserted it would contest the order through appropriate legal channels. In a memo sent to its roughly 3,000 employees on Sunday and reported by the Financial Times newspaper, Jane Street said, 'it's deeply upsetting to see the firm mischaracterised this way.' 'We take pride in the role we serve in markets around the world, and it's painful to have our firm's reputation tarnished by a report based on so many erroneous or unsupported assertions,' the memo said. Jane Street is yet to respond to a mail about the Sebi allegations sent by The Indian Express. Last week, the market regulator granted Jane Street 21 days to file an objection to its order and request a hearing. Jane Street, one of the most prominent and successful proprietary trading firms to emerge in the past two decades, has grown into a major force across global financial markets. In its internal memo, Jane Street criticised Sebi for relying on 'a metric for market impact and trading aggressiveness which seems disconnected from actual market dynamics.' The firm argued that its trading activity on January 17, 2024 — one of the days singled out in Sebi's report — reflected routine 'basic arbitrage trading,' a widely accepted strategy in the industry. Jane Street has sharply contested Sebi's claim that it disregarded concerns raised by the National Stock Exchange (NSE), an allegation the regulator used to justify its sudden and unprecedented ban on the firm's trading operations in India. In the internal memo, Jane Street described the charge as 'especially far from reality,' stating that it had promptly halted its trading activity at the time to better understand the exchange's concerns. The firm added that it subsequently adjusted its strategies to align with the NSE's stated preferences. 'Once again, we left this process feeling that we had reached an understanding of the concerns and reflected them in modifications to our trading behaviour,' the memo said. 'Since February, we have made ongoing efforts to communicate with Sebi and have been consistently rebuffed.' According to the FT report, the US firm nearly doubled its net trading revenues to $20.5 billion last year, outpacing several of Wall Street's biggest banks. In the first quarter of 2025, Jane Street notched up net trading revenues of $7.2 billion, more than Morgan Stanley. 'Sebi's investigation was triggered by revelations from a lawsuit launched by Jane Street last year against Millennium Management and two former traders that had moved to the hedge fund. Jane Street's complaint alleged that the traders had stolen a hugely valuable trading strategy, which was later revealed to revolve around Indian options trading,' FT report said. According to the regulator's findings, Jane Street's trades, particularly in Nifty index futures, showed a clear pattern. The firm wasn't trading passively or reacting to the market — it was nudging prices upward, consistently placing orders at or above the last traded price (LTP). This pattern intensified in the final hours of trading, a critical window that often shapes the day's closing price. Sebi described it as a 'non-neutral trading behaviour', a strategic attempt to influence prices rather than simply engage with the market. And the tactic wasn't random; it followed a well-known play in the trading world: 'marking the close.' Jane Street, regulators say, was executing what's known as an extended 'marking the close' strategy — placing large and aggressive buy or sell orders near the end of the trading session, with the intention of artificially moving the closing price of a stock or index. The closing price is critical, especially on derivatives expiry days, as it determines the settlement value for futures and options contracts.

Thermal power expansion: Adani Power acquires VIPL for Rs 4,000 crore; capacity hits 18,150 MW

Adani Power acquires VIPL Adani Power Ltd (APL), India's largest private thermal power producer, has completed the acquisition of Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd. (VIPL) for Rs 4,000 crore, further cementing its dominance in the base-load power generation sector. The resolution plan was approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai Bench, on June 18 and successfully implemented on Monday. As per ANI, VIPL is a 2x300 MW coal-based power plant located at Butibori in Nagpur district, Maharashtra. The plant had been undergoing Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) prior to this acquisition. Following this addition, Adani Power's total operating capacity has reached 18,150 MW. The company now plans to significantly expand this figure through a combination of brownfield and greenfield ultra-supercritical power projects across the country. APL is currently constructing six brownfield Ultra-supercritical Thermal Power Plants (USCTPP), each of 1,600 MW capacity, across its existing facilities in Singrauli-Mahan (Madhya Pradesh), Raipur, Raigarh, and Korba (Chhattisgarh), and Kawai (Rajasthan). A separate greenfield USCTPP of 1,600 MW is also being developed at Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, construction of a 1,320 MW Supercritical power plant at Korba, previously acquired by Adani Power, is being revived. With all these projects, APL is targeting to scale up its base-load generation portfolio to 30,670 MW by 2030. Commenting on the development, SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, was quoted as saying by ANI, 'The acquisition of VIPL is a key milestone in Adani Power's strategy to unlock value through the turnaround of stressed assets. As we continue expanding our portfolio, we remain committed to supporting India's vision of 'Electricity for All' by delivering reliable, affordable base-load power that fuels the country's sustainable growth. ' Adani Power operates thermal plants across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu. The company also runs a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat, contributing to its growing diversification in energy generation.
