He said: 'Most of Thursday and Friday is about jockeying for position, keeping yourself in it, trying not to lose the tournament.
'But after the start I had today, I could have created some daylight between myself and the field. I just have to go and do it all again over the next two days.'

They then stepped closer to each other as the argument as tensions continued to boil over.
Harrington added: "You've played gold all your life. You understand."
But Maltbie did not step down as he replied: "I'm not a player."

Padraig Harrington's telling response after Rory McIlroy 'terribly wrong' stance
Padraig Harrington has delivered a glowing verdict of the Champions Tour after winning his second US Senior Open title. Harrington won the tournament by one stroke on Sunday, narrowly finishing ahead of Stewart Cink at the top of the leaderboard. The three-time major winner carded three-under-par in his final round to finish on 11-under. A run of seven consecutive pars was enough for Harrington to see off Cink's challenge and claim the €682k ($800k) top prize, having triumphed at the same event in 2022. Rory McIlroy has previously dismissed the idea of joining the Champions Tour in the future. However, despite his brief run-in with a commentator at Broadmoor, Harrington admitted to loving his time at the prestigious over-50s events, which do not exist in most other sports. 'It's unbelievable. We're so much better together at this stage of our careers,' Harrington explained after his victory. 'Everybody is happier and friendlier. 'We're not half as grumpy as we were when we were young guys. I think, as you get older, you realise that you don't actually have all the secrets and that you can actually tell everybody everything, and it's up to them to figure it out too. 'We're much more relaxed than -- we're still competitive when we're on the golf course. We want to play great golf, but I think the environment around the Champions Tour is really nice.' McIlroy does not share Harrington's enthusiasm for over-50s golf. In March, he was asked about possibly joining the Champions Tour when he finally meets the age criteria. 'Absolutely not,' McIlroy declared ahead of his victory at the Players Championship. 'I will not play Champions Tour golf. Look, I've said a lot of absolutes in my time that I've walked back, but I do not envision playing Champions Tour golf. Something has went terribly wrong if I have to compete at golf at 50.' However, McIlroy, who achieved a career Grand Slam by winning the Masters in April, explained the nuances behind his stance. He highlighted the longevity of his professional career as one reason behind his lack of interest in the Champions Tour. 'I look at other sports, I turned pro in 2007. I'm 18 years into a career. Not a lot of athletes can say they've had an 18-year career, and I'm only 35,' he explained. 'I can acknowledge how lucky golfers are to be able to do what they do for so long compared to other athletes, so whenever I feel like the time is right, I'll have no problem moving aside and letting the next generation do their thing.' Meanwhile, Harrington, who also finished T2 at the Senior PGA Championship last month, relishes his time on the tour. The 53-year-old believes the Champions Tour has given him a fresh perspective on the sport. 'Most of us would have burnt out in golf,' Harrington said. 'You put so much into your golfing career, you burn out. Usually you last about 20 years is the burn-out period, 15 to 20 years. The Champions Tour is a new lease on life. 'The only way you can kind of do it is do it with a different attitude and a new attitude. As I said, it's about, I suppose, enjoying your past glories now and reliving them.'
