Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back as the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in the The Conjuring: Last Rites trailer to investigate the Smurl family haunting.
The trailer for the last film in The Conjuring franchise, The Conjuring: Last Rites, has just dropped, and it's packed with spine chilling moments that will give you nightmares. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back as the iconic paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who will be facing their most terrifying case yet, the haunting of the Smurl family. For over a decade, the family experienced physical and mental abuse by a demon. Described as Warrens' darkest case, the teaser mentions 'Discover why this case was their last." Set in 1986, the Warrens investigate Janet and Jack Smurls' home, where the demon's terrifying presence has left the family in constant fear.
The promo starts with Ed showing their room full of cursed objects, like the painting of the nun Valak and the iconic haunted doll Annabelle. Ed talks about their past work, saying they have handled over 1,000 cases. The clip then cuts to Lorraine seeing an unknown hand on their daughter's shoulder. Then, the trailer shows a young girl getting scared by dolls floating in the air and a demon hides behind one of them. Lorraine feels that 'something is different." The trailer shows creepy scenes like a sink filled with blood. In the final scene, a demon tells Lorraine, 'We've been waiting so patiently for you," before running towards her.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Vera Farmiga said, 'I'm going to miss Patrick most of all. I mean, not really. He's reachable within seconds on text. But I'll miss him as a fun scene partner who totally understands my kind of neurology, who vibes with my brain in a way. I love that guy. I'm so blessed to have had him by my side. He made all of these life-zapping, exhausting exorcisms feel like a family barbecue."
Wilson was emotional at the franchise ending. 'I think that's why when you say, 'Can you imagine it being over?' I actually can't imagine it really because of her. It really meant the world to me. I didn't think we'd be doing this for 12, 13 years. I only know this because I have a shirt from running a race in Wilmington. It says 2012, [which is] when we shot the first one. So, yeah, I get emotional. I can't imagine not doing a movie with her," he stated
For The Conjuring: Last Rites, while Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back in the lead roles, they will be joined by Mia Tomlinson and Ben Hardy, who play their daughter Judy Warren and her boyfriend Tony Spera. Steve Coulter also returns as Father Gordon. The cast also includes Rebecca Calder, Elliot Cowan, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, John Brotherton and Shannon Kook. The movie is scheduled to release on September 5.

Who was Maureen Maguire? Partner of Jason and Travis Kelce's dad Ed, died at 74

Father of NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce, Ed Kelce, is mourning the death of his partner, Maureen Maguire. On Saturday, August 2, Ed took to his personal Facebook page and shared the link to her obituary. As per People magazine, Maguire passed away at the age of 74 on August 1. The obituary described Maureen as a 'devoted mother' with 'impeccable taste,' and also mentioned she 'passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.' In Maureen Maguire's obituary, Ed Kelce was termed as her'beloved friend,' highlighting the bond they shared. As noted by Stretch Funeral Home, Maureen 'grew an unexpected love for football later in life,' often joining Ed and her loyal dog, Butch, for games. 'Together, they traveled often and attended football games and concerts, and embraced every opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest,' the tribute read. The obituary also talked about Maureen's personality. 'A natural hostess, she was famous for throwing the best parties, always full of warmth, laughter, and unforgettable food,' it added. In a February 2024 interaction with the Los Angeles Times, Ed Kelce had reflected on how Maureen Maguire had started getting to know his son Travis' girlfriend, Taylor Swift. He recalled a funny exchange between the two; while Swift posed for a photo with Ed, Maguire joked, 'Hey, that's my boyfriend,' prompting the Blank Space singer to laugh. With a house full of guests before a game, Ed admitted he could not place Swift's name despite recognizing her face. 'And Taylor comes in, walks in with a security guard and I look at her ... and I had my girlfriend with me and I mention to Maureen, Oh, my God, I know this kid but I don't know what her name is. Geez, you know, like a real idiot,' he told her. With a laugh, she replied, "You don't know her? This is Taylor Swift, you idiot." He is the father of NFL star Travis Kelce. He has met Taylor through his son Travis, who is in a relationship with her. She was Ed Kelce's girlfriend, known for her playful personality.

Nicole Kidman On Her ‘Insane' Bond With Sandra Bullock: ‘We're Having The Best Time'

Last Updated: Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have an "insane" bond on Practical Magic 2 and are so close they feel "like sisters" in real life. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have an 'insane" bond on Practical Magic 2. The two actresses have reprised their roles as sister witches Gillian and Sally Owens in the sequel to the 1998 classic, and the Big Little Lies star admitted she and her pal are 'like sisters" in real life and love poking fun at one another. She told People magazine: '[Our dynamic is] insane. I can tease her, and she teases me," Kidman, 58, explains, noting, 'We're both living in London, very close to each other… 'I adore her and she is so funny and so lovable. And we're just having the best time together." The 58-year-old actress admitted she and Sandra are thrilled to be playing the characters again after a 27-year absence. She said: 'We're both like, 'What?' But we were just right back into it." And it isn't only Sandra that Nicole has enjoyed working with on the movie. She added: 'We have this wonderful female director, Susanne Bier. Warner Bros. is behind the film. And they've been incredibly supportive in making this, going back and then expanding it. 'And then we have beautiful Joey King, who I've worked with before and who's just lovely. So it's a group of amazing, amazing women and some great men who are creating the next phase, the next stage of the witches' life." Meanwhile, Evan Rachel Wood recently revealed she won't be reprising her role as Kylie, Sandra's on-screen daughter, in the sequel, despite having asked about being part of the project. She wrote on Instagram Stories: 'I am getting asked about this a lot, so l'll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and be in the Practical Magic sequel. l offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are recasting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters." Bullock and Nicole Kidman are reprising their roles as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who are descended from a long line of witches. Meanwhile, producer Denise Di Novi previously promised that fans will be 'very pleased" with the sequel, which will draw heavily from the source material – Alice Hoffman's 2021 novel The Book of Magic. She told Entertainment Weekly: 'I think (fans are) going to be very pleased. We're going to be very faithful. We're [aware of] how important those characters and that movie are to so many people. We're not going to reinvent the wheel. 'We're going to draw from Alice Hoffman's books, as the first movie did, and we're going to be true to the chronology of how many years later it is." Di Novi explained how the crew will 'be respectful to the characters, story, and locations" from the original picture. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
