1-2 Special Takes Radu Jude's ‘Dracula' for North America
The film, which will have its world premiere in competition at the Locarno Film Festival, is billed as a very singular take on the legendary vampire, featuring 'vampires, zombies, lots of blood, sex, AI images, car chases, and Jude's trademark black comedy.'

'I am very happy and extremely grateful that Dracula will be brought to American audiences,' said Jude. 'One can say 'brought back', since this myth circled the world and the American cinema changed it so many times. I hope it is now time to see the myth wearing new clothes, made in the heart of real Transylvania. When I am asked who is Dracula in the film, I always reply that the film itself is Dracula. I would also add that this film is my humble homage to some great American underrated auteurs: Ed Wood, Andy Warhol and the Fluxus filmmakers.'
The deal was negotiated by Luxbox on behalf of the filmmakers with 1-2 Special.
The acquisition marks the continuation of 1-2 Special's relationship with Radu Jude, whose Kontinental '25 the company picked up out of the Berlin film festival this year, marking their first international acquisition. The modern-day drama, won Jude the silver bear for best screenplay.
Former Sideshow executive Jason Hellerstein launched 1-2 Special earlier this year, with backing from private equity, pitching the company as a new theatrical-first, all rights distributor, dedicated to domestic and international art house cinema.
Dracula is produced by Romania's Saga Film, together with Austria's Nabis Filmgroup, Luxembourg's Paul Thiltges Distribution, Brazil's RT Features, Luxembourg's Samsa Film, Switzerland's Bord Cadre Films, the UK's Sovereign Films and Romania's MicroFILM.

On this week's episode of 'The Daily Show,' Jon Stewart attacked CBS for abruptly canceling the 'Late Show With Stephen Colbert' in a rare uncensored episode. Stewart began by recounting his history with Stephen Colbert, which included six years together on 'The Daily Show' before Colbert went on to 'The Colbert Report' in 2005 and the 'Late Show' in 2015. He then went on the attack. The man other than Biden, maybe most responsible for getting Trump elected,' Stewart joked, 'Fox spends 24 hours a day blowing Trump, and it's not enough. Imagine suing someone mid-blow.' The late-night pundit also joked about his own future in television, quipping, 'This is not the moment to give in. I'm not giving in. I'm not going anywhere…..I think.' Stewart ended his monologue by serenading all media companies who think 'bending the knee to Trump' will save them. After rousing the crowd with the help of a gospel choir, Stewart sang, 'But if you're afraid and you protect your bottom line, I got but one thing to say! Go fuck yourself!' It was unveiled Thursday that CBS planned to end Colbert's 'Late Show' after the next TV season, citing the cancellation as a 'financial decision.' Late-night programming has long been on shaky ground due to declining viewership and difficulties maintaining relevance with young viewers, making the high production costs hard to justify. The news marks the end of the 'Late Show's' historic run, which started with David Letterman in 1993. 'We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire 'The Late Show' franchise,' CBS executives said in a statement. 'We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late-night television. This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.
