Actor Rahul Bose, who has been part of the Hindi film industry for almost three decades and is known for his pathbreaking performances, recently opened up about growing up in a household where his parents defied traditional gender norms. He shared how this upbringing shaped his understanding of the world and made him more conscious and aware.
In a recent interaction with ANI, Rahul revealed that his parents were quite the opposite of what gender stereotypes typically dictate. While his father paid more attention to appearances and presentation, his mother was career-focused and took charge of things that are traditionally considered 'masculine.' Speaking about the same, he said, 'I was woke way before the word came up because my mother never cooked, my father cooked. My mother slapped me every day for 5 years. I was such a nikamma (useless) that it only helped me. And you can't say that these days but believe me I was such a nikamma those days that it only helped. She forced me to play Rugby and box.'
Talking about his father's reaction to his interest in more rugged sports, Rahul shared, 'I boxed in school and my father was appalled. He wanted me to wear a cap so that I wouldn't get too dark in the sun. He wanted me to play cricket and be a gentleman. He saw me playing rugby and never looked at the field when he would walk in.'
Explaining how his parents' roles shaped him into the person he is today, Rahul added, 'I am the product of a father who would ask what we should wear at a wedding and a mother who asked what should I do with my career. This is exactly opposite.'
Rahul is best known for his unconventional and nuanced performances in films such as Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, I Am, Bulbbul, Kaalpurush, and more. He was last seen in the film Berlin.

Grosse Pointe Garden Society cast bids farewell after series cancelled for second season

Washington DC [US], June 29 (ANI): Following the announcement of NBC that the series 'Grosse Pointe Garden Society' would not be back to bloom for a second season, the cast bid a heartfelt farewell to the series. Melissa Fumero, who played society newbie Birdie on the Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs-created series, paid tribute to the character with some behind-the-scenes photos and a statement on Instagram. "Thanks for watching our little show," reported Variety. Sharing the snaps from the series, the actress wrote, "Oh, Birdie. You were one for the books. You felt like an amalgamation of every role I've ever played. I'll miss so many things about this job, but most of all I will miss the incredible group of humans it brought together. I won't miss the shoes. It's really hard to make a show. Even harder to keep it on air. I'll forever be proud of what we made. Thanks for watching." Actress AnnaSophia Robb, who starred as high school teacher Alice, wrote with a cast photo on her Instagram Story, "Damn. I will miss our GPGS family. Grateful and proud of all that we made together," as quoted by Deadline. Ben Rappaport, who played divorced father and gardening club manager Brett, shared his own statement with some photos of the cast with Bans and Krebs. "I've said it before and I'll say it again," he captioned the post. "Showbiz ain't for the faint of heart. Our beloved Grosse Pointe Garden Society was cancelled today. I'll sure miss working with these (and all of our) amazing folks every day. This was a special one." On Friday, Deadline exclusively reported that NBC opted not to renew the drama series for a second season, after the network explored the possibility of moving the show to Peacock. (ANI)

'That was also a struggle': Rainn Wilson on The Office after Steve Carell left

Washington DC [US], June 29 (ANI): Actor Rainn Wilson recently opened up about the difficulties filming 'The Office' after Steve Carell left the show in 2011, reported Variety. Rainn Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute, discussed his experience working on the comedy series for nine seasons with podcast hosts Josh Peck and Ben Soffer. 'The Office' co-star admitted in the interview that it was challenging for the cast and production to continue the show after they lost their leading man, reported Variety. "When Steve left, then it was a little bit chaotic of trying to figure out the tone of the show and who's the lead and, how are we telling these stories without, you know, the comic engine of the show, which is Michael Scott, and without one of the greatest comic actors in American history at the center of our show. That was also a struggle." Wilson explained, as quoted by Variety. However, Wilson shared that Carell's departure didn't surprise him or their other cast members because he was "such a big movie star at the time", hence making it evident for him to exit, reported Variety. Once Carrell left 'The Office,' he starred in several films including 'Crazy, Stupid Love.,' the 'Despicable Me' franchise, 'Hope Springs' and 'The Way Way Back.' According to Variety, Carell received extensive critical acclaim for portraying Michael Scott in the NBC series. During his six years on the sitcom, he was nominated six times for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series at the Emmys, reported Variety. The series continued for two seasons without Carell before ending in 2013, in which he made a surprise return as Scott in the series finale. However, a new iteration of 'The Office,' called 'The Paper,' has been picked up as an upcoming mockumentary series set to debut on Peacock in September, reported Variety. (ANI)
