ONE Championship: Superlek lured back into ring in to fight Japanese kickboxer in Tokyo

Superlek Kiatmoo9 has been persuaded to return to the ring and will face Yuki Yoza in a bantamweight kickboxing clash at ONE 173 on November 16.
Earlier this month, the Muay Thai legend told the Post he was
unlikely to fight again in 2025
However, after he was called out by Yoza on social media, Superlek took the opportunity to get back in the ring and will fight his Japanese opponent in Tokyo's Ariake Arena.
'You said you were giving me nightmares. But when I defeat you, it's not a nightmare, it's a prophetic dream,' Yoza wrote to Superlek.
Superlek, 29, will be looking to rebound from his loss to Nabil Anane at ONE 172, also in Tokyo.

Yamashita wins Women's Open for first major crown

Yamashita wins Women's Open for first major crown Miyu Yamashita lifts the trophy after winning on the final day of the Women's British Open Golf Championship. Photo: AFP Japan's Miyu Yamashita won the Women's British Open by two strokes at Royal Porthcawl to clinch an emotional first major title. Yamashita carded a two-under par final round to hold off a strong challenge from England's Charley Hull on the Welsh links course. She finished on 11-under par for the tournament, with Hull and Japan's Minami Katsu ending in a tie for second place after final rounds of 69 left them on nine under. Just a day after turning 24, Yamashita became the third Japanese woman to win the British Open after Hinako Shibuno in 2019 and Ayako Okamoto in 1984. She joyously swigged from a bottle of champagne on the 18th green before wiping away tears of joy after sealing her victory. "To win such a historic tournament in front of all these amazing fans is such an incredible feeling," Yamashita said. "The course is set up to be very difficult but also in a brilliant condition," she added. "The amount of people supporting me today really pushed me towards the victory and this is for them." Yamashita's previous best performance in a major was a tie for second place at last year's Women's PGA Championship. She survived a stern test of her temperament on the last day after resuming with a one-stroke lead over South Korea's Kim A-lim. Having posted a bogey-free 65 on Friday, she had carded a two-over par 74 marred by erratic driving off the tee and struggles on the greens in the third round. Yamashita recovered her composure on Sunday as she embarked on a relentless march to the trophy. Prior to this year, Yamashita's highest finish at the Women's British Open was 13th in 2022, but she mastered the Porthcawl course in emphatic fashion. "To be part of such a moment in history is something special," she said. "Being my first win is something very special and to celebrate with everyone is an amazing feeling." (AFP)

Canine surfers to ride waves in world championship

Charlie the yellow lab likes surfing so much he will grab his surfboard and run toward the water, so much so that his humans sometimes have to hide his board if they want to chitchat with friends on the beach. On Saturday, Charlie is set to join about 15 to 20 other canine wave riders to vie for top dog in the World Dog Surfing Championships outside San Francisco. The annual contest draws thousands of spectators to Pacifica State Beach. Participating pooches compete against similarly sized peers for a chance to appear in the finals. Additional heats feature multiple dogs surfing tandem on one board and dogs riding tandem with humans. Judges scrutinise how long dogs remain on boards, how long they can hold their balance and whether they perform any tricks, like turning around while riding waves. Charlie, aged 10, is due to enter the extra-large single surfer heat. He will also ride tandem with two other dogs on what their owners call 'The Dream Team'. Charlie, a Labrador, barks as he is pushed through breaking waves by his owner Jeff Nieboer in the 2024 World Dog Surfing Championships in California. ONE Championship: Regian Eersel KOs George Jarvis to retain lightweight Muay Thai title

Regian Eersel added another emphatic chapter to his reign as ONE's lightweight Muay Thai king, dispatching George Jarvis with a first-round knockout in the main event of ONE Fight Night 34 on Friday. The Suriname-born Dutchman needed just 84 seconds to finish off the British challenger at Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium, retaining his title and taking home a US$50,000 performance bonus. Eersel had spoken beforehand about a strategy to drag Jarvis into deep waters and score a late finish, but once the opening bell rang, he wasted no time asserting his authority. The 32-year-old, nicknamed 'The Immortal', pushed Jarvis onto the back foot from the outset, landing clean combinations before a sharp right hand dropped the former WBC Muay Thai world champion. Jarvis beat the count, but another right hand moments later sealed the result. Regian Eersel improved his record to 25 wins from his past 26 bouts. Photo: ONE Championship With the victory, Eersel made the third successful defence of his Muay Thai crown and improved his record to 25 wins from his past 26 bouts. His only loss during that stretch came against Alexis Nicolas in 2024, a blemish he avenged twice to close out their trilogy.
