Huawei denies claims that its Pangu model copied Alibaba's Qwen

New Delhi, July 7 (UNI) Huawei's AI research division on Monday outrightly denied the claims that the version of Pangu Pro large language models has copied some elements of Alibaba's Qwen.
The division named 'Noah Ark Lab' said that Pangu is an independently trained model.
Noah Ark Lab division has issued this statement just after the day HonestAGI posted a research paper on GitHub stating that Pangu Pro MoE (Mixture of Experts) has a deep correlation with Alibaba's Qwen 2.5-14B.
The motive of this research paper is to show that the Pangu model is not trained from scratch and developed with the help of 'upcycling.' This revelation started a series of discussions in AI galore and Chinese tech-media.
After the sensation spread, Noah Ark Lab said that the Pangu Model is not based on the incremental training of other manufacturers or models; it has made key innovations in architecture, design, and technical features.
The statement also highlighted that the development team strictly followed open-source license requirements for any third-party code used.

Karnataka approves Rs 244 cr for Annabhagya amid lorry strike

Bengaluru, July 8 (UNI) The Karnataka government has sanctioned an additional Rs 244.10 crore to cover increased costs under the Annabhagya scheme for the February-May 2025 period, amid a continuing lorry strike triggered by unpaid transportation dues amounting to Rs 250 crore. The newly approved funds are aimed at addressing wholesale and retail margins and transportation charges, excluding the cost of rice procurement. This follows a prior allocation of Rs 2,082.99 crore for purchasing additional rice and other associated expenses under the same scheme, of which Rs 21.79 crore remains unutilized. The lorry strike, now entering a critical phase, has halted food grain movement across the state, raising concerns about ration supply disruptions. Truck owners have warned of worsening logistics delays unless the government settles the long-pending arrears. Opposition parties have slammed the Congress-led administration for what they call fiscal mismanagement and warned that failure to resolve the strike could paralyze the state's public distribution system. They have demanded an immediate resolution to safeguard food security for economically vulnerable sections. The Annabhagya scheme, a flagship welfare program, provides free rice to below-povertyline families and is seen as politically crucial for the ruling dispensation. However, the ongoing financial strain and operational bottlenecks have exposed governance gaps in scheme implementation and payment logistics. The Finance and Food & Civil Supplies departments are expected to hold joint talks with transport unions this week in an attempt to break the deadlock. UNI BDN RKM

Adani Power acquires 600-MW VIPL Thermal Plant for Rs 4,000 Crore

Mumbai, July 8 (UNI) Adani Power Ltd officially announced here today that it has acquired the 600-MW coal-fired thermal power plant of Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL) located at Butibori, in Maharashtra's Nagpur district, for Rs 4,000 crore, through the insolvency route. The development came after the Mumbai Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved a resolution plan for VIPL on June 18, according to the statement. After this acquisition, Adani Power Ltd has an operating capacity of 18,150 MW. The company plans to achieve its target of 30,670 MW capacity by 2029-30 and expand its base-load power generation portfolio through a mix of brownfield and greenfield projects. The company is presently engaged in constructing six brownfield ultra supercritical thermal power plants (USCTPP) of 1,600 MW each, at its existing locations in Singrauli-Mahan (Madhya Pradesh), Raipur, Raigarh and Korba (Chhattisgarh), as well as Kawai in Rajasthan, in addition to another 1,600 MW greenfield USCTPP at Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. "As we continue expanding our portfolio, we remain committed to supporting India's vision of 'Electricity for All' by delivering reliable, affordable base-load power that fuels the country's sustainable growth," Adani Power Ltd CEO SB Khyalia said.
