Alberto Varela claimed his Inner Mastery venture was the first to take the ayahuasca experience multinational. Users of the Amazonian plant brew often report revisiting past trauma or repressed experiences, and Varela was warned that rolling it out on an industrial scale with minimal oversight would result in accidents. As the company grew, so did the number of accidents – and deaths. Sam Edwards tells the story of how Varela's cult-like 'anti-therapy' empire unravelled. Delusions of grandeur: In March 2020, not long after Covid had been declared a pandemic, a half-naked Varela shared a video with the findings from his latest ayahuasca trip: 'I created the coronavirus.' Meghan Markle posts loved-up snap alongside Prince Harry as she gushes over their kids on Fourth of July

Meghan Markle has posted a loved-up snap alongside husband Prince Harry as she gushed over their kids on Fourth of July. The 43-year-old appeared to have a very active day on social media during Independence Day, posting across both her personal and As Ever Instagram accounts. The Duchess of Sussex began by flaunting her sold-out raspberry spread in a promotional video that has since been branded by viewers as 'embarrassing.' But she has now shared a more personal touch in her latest family-orientated upload. The carousel of images showcased a platter of handmade cupcakes, a close-up of one of the tasty treats and a third image of Meghan cozying up to Harry. The mom-of-two, in reference to their kids Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana, wrote in the caption: 'Our second date was the 4th of July 2016 and H brought me cupcakes to celebrate. 'Now, all these years later, our two children are in on the tradition.' She added: 'Happy Independence Day! May your day be as sweet as these cupcakes.' Earlier in the day, also in honor of the July 4 holiday, Meghan posted a clip to her As Ever Instagram page showcasing a charcuterie board she had put together - but it has not gone down well with viewers. In the video, Meghan introduced her board as 'easy entertaining,' and decorated a wooden platter with various fruits, cheeses, and crackers, as well as her sold-out, $14 As Ever raspberry spread. She looked summer-chic in an oversized, blue-and-white striped button down as she filmed from what appeared to be her own kitchen in Montecito, California. While she assembled the board, the Duchess, 43, carefully started off by arranging fruits like raspberries and cherries, then added some star-shaped cheese and blueberries, along with some crackers and slices of sourdough bread. To finish things off, she took a brand-new container of her raspberry spread, which went on sale as part of the first As Ever drop in April, and scooped it into a small dish. However, the spread sold out within a half hour of it going on sale, leaving many fans dying to get their hands on it. As she put the spread onto the board, she accidentally dropped a raspberry into it, laughing as she popped it into her mouth. 'Happy 4th of July!' the caption of the video read. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently took their two kids to Disneyland Earlier in the day, also in honor of the July 4 holiday, Meghan posted a clip to her As Ever Instagram page showcasing a charcuterie board she had put together - but it has not gone down well with viewers Meghan also posted a similar clip to her personal Instagram page just minutes later, @meghan, where she showed followers an aerial view of her assembling the festive platter. On Reddit, some royal fans slammed the video as 'basic,' as one person even compared her creation to an outdated post on Pinterest. 'I love a board, especially a themed one, but bless her heart for thinking this is new and/or unique. Also, the faux calligraphy and the unnecessary flowers are eyeroll inducing,' one person wrote. Another agreed, 'Cough! Let's go copy something from Pinterest, and hey make sure you get the jewelry into the shot... oh! yeah, got to show off the stupid handwriting.' 'I think it looks good if my regular friend/neighbor did it. They're not trying to sell an elevated lifestyle brand.... it's embarrassing,' someone else typed.

EXCLUSIVE Katy Perry's secret hurt as Orlando Bloom behaves like 'acting-out adolescent'

Weeks after Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom called it quits, he was spotted with a bevy of beauties, while she fought back tears thousands of miles away onstage in Australia. The British heartthrob, 48, has seemingly been embracing his newfound bachelor status with a week of partying in Italy, including a wild weekend at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez 's wedding, followed by a star-studded bash onboard a yacht. A disappointed Perry, 40, has been left hurt by his actions since the break up with an insider since telling the Daily Mail how the mom-of-one really feels. 'It's disappointing,' said a source close to Perry, who is currently on her Lifetimes world tour. 'It's hurtful and annoying. If he's going to behave like an acting-up adolescent, that's on him. She's going to continue to work and take care of Daisy.' 'Katy knows that he's free to do whatever the hell he wants to do, she hoped he'd do it a little more discreetly and thoughtfully,' the source continued. 'So she's disappointed and sad.' From a distance, Perry has seen the news coverage of her ex's behavior. He danced the night away as a guest on Bezos' swanky superyacht alongside 450 other VIPs including likes of Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner, Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum. Then he was recently spotted chatting up Leonardo DiCaprio's girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti, during a water taxi ride as they headed to the airport following the Amazon founder's wedding this past weekend. Fresh from three days partying, Bloom then headed on board Ritz-Carlton's gleaming 794-ft Luminara for its inaugural cruise from Rome. But between parties, Bloom has shared cryptic posts on social media about his heartbreak The Lord Of The Rings star, 48, shared quotes from the late psychiatrist Carl Jung to his Instagram stories after the nine-year relationship ended. 'Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself,' he wrote. Reposting another quote, Orlando alluded to the darker sides of his life. The quote read: 'Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.' He followed that up by sharing a quote from Gautama Buddha to his seven million followers. 'Each day is a new beginning,' he wrote, 'What we do today is what matters most.' But the Perry insider scoffs at the inspirational quotes and says that the singer believes he is merely managing his public persona. 'He's smart enough to know that the partying is not a good look,' the source grouses. 'But all the quotes in the world from famous philosophers and religious leaders can't change the fact that he's out there doing what he's doing.' When the split was revealed, a source told Us Weekly: 'Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,' while also adding that the separation has been 'not contentious' thus far. 'Katy is of course upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life.' Reps for Bloom and Perry did not return the Daily Mail's request for comment. The Teenage Dream hitmaker was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010 until their divorce in 2012. Despite Bloom's behavior, Perry's friend says that she is striving to take the split in stride. 'She wishes him all the best,' says the source, 'She just wants to move forward.'
