
Three flights diverted to Shannon Airport in one day due to onboard medical emergencies
Three intercontinental flights diverted to Shannon Airport in County Clare on Monday, July 21, due to separate medical emergencies onboard.
A spokesperson for The Shannon Airport Group has confirmed that American Airlines flight AA198, operating from JFK – New York to Milan Malpensa Airport, landed at Shannon at 6.33am.
Shortly afterward, American Airlines flight AA326 travelling from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, North Carolina, to Athens International Airport, arrived at 6.45am.
Later that evening, flight SPM-637 on route from Paris, Charles de Gaulle Airport to Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon off Newfoundland in Canada declared a medical emergency. The flight landed safely at 7.02pm.
In all cases, the aircrafts were met by Shannon Airport Police and Fire Service together with members of the National Ambulance Service.
The passengers requiring attention were transferred by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.
Flight AA198 to Milan resumed its journey at 8.52am, followed by flight AA326 to Athens at 9.56am, with flight SPM-637 departing at 8.23pm.

Transatlantic flight re-routes to Shannon Airport for medical emergency
Royal Jordanian flight RJA-283 took off from Washington in the US before making contact with air traffic controllers in Ireland. The crew informed Irish ground staff of an unwell passenger on board. The plane was cleared to reroute to Shannon Airport, as per the crew's request, and the National Ambulance Service was advised of the incoming aircraft. The transatlantic flight landed at Shannon Airport shortly after 8am, where the patient onboard was assessed before they were transported to University Hospital Limerick for further treatment. The flight took off again just after 10.30am, continuing its journey to the Jordanian capital city. A spokesperson for The Shannon Airport Group said: 'We can confirm that a Royal Jordanian flight from Washington to Amman diverted to Shannon Airport at 7:10 this morning due to a medical emergency. A passenger was transferred to UHL by ambulance and the aircraft departed Shannon again at 10:38.'
