Bajrang Dal member held for abusing Blinkit staff for delivering chicken during Shravan

A member of the Bajrang Dal was arrested by the Ghaziabad Police on Thursday for allegedly insulting and intimidating an assistant manager of Blinkit — a quick commerce company — for delivering chicken during the month of Shravan, police said.
Ghaziabad (City) Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhawal Jaiswal identified the accused as Manoj Verma. 'We have begun a probe into the incident,' he said, adding that a court has sent Verma to judicial custody.
Vijay Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Ritesh Tripathi said Verma was arrested after the Blinkit assistant manager, Monish, filed a police complaint on Wednesday.
In his complaint, Monish alleged that Verma, along with his associates, had come to the Blinkit store at Siddharth Vihar in Vijay Nagar on July 15.
'He came between 4 pm and 5 pm and started abusing our fleet manager, Abhay, saying that he was getting chicken delivered in the month of Shravan,' Monish wrote in the complaint, adding that they were threatened that if Abhay did not stop, Verma would kill him and get the store closed.
Meanwhile, in a purported video that has gone viral on social media, Verma and one other person could be seen stopping a Blinkit delivery agent, Ritu Raj, who was on a bike, on Wednesday — hours before the police complaint was filed. In the video, Verma is seen asking Raj to show the parcel he was carrying. On finding raw chicken, Verma asks Raj to call the customer.
When the customer picks up, Verma is heard saying on the phone — 'Today, it is Tuesday and Shravan too. We are trying to ensure that less non-veg is sold. We are from Bajrang Dal and this is our work…' When the customer on the other end tells him that she is a Christian, Verma lets Raj go.

Nuns among three held for alleged human trafficking in Chhattisgarh, forced conversion of Bastar's tribal girls, sparks political storm

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Railway Police have arrested three persons including two nuns on charges of alleged human trafficking and forced religious conversion of three tribal girls from Maoist- affected Narayanpur district under the age of 20. The girls were being taken to Agra on July 25 from Durg railway station, said railway police, adding that the girls were being taken for nursing jobs. The three arrested were identified as Sister Preeti Mary (45) and Sister Vandana Francis (50), both from Kerala congregation, and Sukaman Mandavi (19) from Narayanpur. They were arrested by GRP based on a complaint by a local Bajrang Dal functionary. According to the police, the trio was allegedly taking three tribal girls from Narayanpur to work as nurses at a hospital in Agra, while also attempting to convert them to Christianity. The girls, all under the age of 23, were intercepted at Durg station just before boarding the train by GRP. A GRP official said that whenever girls or anyone leaves a village for work, it has to be recorded in the 'palayan register' and intimated to the 'gram sachiv' but none of it was done when checked, nor did the alleged accused carry written consent from the parents, which is mandatory. The girls said the nuns were taking them to Agra in Uttar Pradesh on the pretext of jobs and that Mandavi had brought them to Durg railway station, from where they had to go to Agra with the two nuns, a GRP official said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Info Undo It was after the initial probe that members of Bajrang Dal protested at the railway station platform and demanded arrest of the alleged accused. They submitted a complaint to the GRP. Based on their statements and preliminary questioning of the accused, police registered Case number 60/2025 under Section 143(3) of the IPC for human trafficking, and Section 4 of the Chhattisgarh Freedom of Religion Act (1968). The alleged accused were produced before the court and sent on judicial remand. The issue has triggered a nationwide political storm and Church and Opposition Congress alleging that minorities are being targeted under the BJP-led administration. Lok Sabha MP and senior Congress leader KC Venugopal on Monday posted on X, 'UDF MPs held a strong protest outside Parliament today against the shocking arrest and harassment of Catholic nuns in Durg in Chhattisgarh. They were targeted by a violent mob despite no wrongdoing. By the BJP-RSS ecosystem, all minorities are treated as criminals and lumpen elements are unleashed to intimidate fellow citizens practising their faith.' This jugalbandi between Bajrang Dal goons and the police in Chhattisgarh shows the BJP's real intent towards religious minorities, Venugopal said in his social media post, adding, 'We demand their immediate release and justice for the innocent nuns.' Venugopal has written to Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai strongly condemning Bajrag Dal's vigilante action and appealing for strict action against perpetrators. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sharply reacted to the move, 'Two Catholic nuns jailed in Chhattisgarh after being targeted for their faith - this isn't justice, it's BJP-RSS mob rule. It reflects a dangerous pattern, systematic persecution of minorities under this regime. We will not be silent. Religious freedom is a constitutional right. We demand their immediate release and accountability for this injustice.' Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai reacted stating, 'Three daughters from Narayanpur were promised nursing training and subsequent employment. They were handed over at Durg railway station by a local man to two nuns, who were taking them to Agra. There was an attempt to lure them with false promises and carry out human trafficking under the guise of religious conversion.' 'This is a serious matter concerning the safety of women. The investigation is currently ongoing. The case is subjudice and the law will take its own course. Chhattisgarh is a peaceful state where people of all religions and communities live in harmony. It is extremely unfortunate that a sensitive issue involving the safety of our daughters from Bastar is being given a political colour,' CM said. The three girls have been placed under protection at the Bhilai Sakhi Centre. GRP officials also said that photographs of minor girls and the contact details of a priest were found with the nuns, along with some official documents under scrutiny. Durg police maintain that the arrests were made based on legal provisions and witness statements. 'The three women were being taken under the pretext of employment, but the circumstances raised suspicion. The investigation is ongoing,' a GRP officer said. BJP slams Congress for backing accused BJP has strongly criticized Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Venugopal, for allegedly siding with those accused in the trafficking and religious conversion of tribal girls from Bastar. In a statement issued on Tuesday, BJP's state media in-charge Amit Chimnani said, 'Due to their politics of appeasement, top Congress leaders have chosen to stand with the accused in the trafficking of Bastar's daughters. Shockingly, even Chhattisgarh Congress, which should be supporting the state's daughters, is echoing the voices of their national bosses. Once again, it has become evident that Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh merely follow the commands of their high command and have no concern for the people of the state.' Chimnani added that the daughters of Chhattisgarh will never forgive the Congress for this betrayal.

2 nuns arrested in Chhattisgarh on conversion charges; ‘targeted for their faith,' claims Rahul Gandhi

The arrest of three people – including two nuns – in Chhattisgarh on conversion allegations has snowballed into a political row, with Opposition Congress calling it 'systematic persecution of minorities'. The arrested people have been identified as nuns Preeti Marry and Vandana Francis, and another person, Sukaman Mandavi. An FIR was registered on the back of a complaint from a local Bajrang Dal worker who alleged the suspects had 'forcibly converted' three women from Narayanpur district and were attempting to traffic them. 'An FIR has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Chhattisgarh Religious Freedom Act and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act,' a GRP official said, adding that when questioned, the victims had alleged that they had been promised jobs and were being taken to Agra, and that one of the suspects had brought them to Durg station. The arrests have drawn a backlash, with Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi claiming that the nuns were being 'being targeted for their faith'. 'It reflects a dangerous pattern: systematic persecution of minorities under this regime,' he said on X, calling it the 'RSS-BJP mob rule'. 'UDF MPs protested in Parliament today. We will not be silent. Religious freedom is a constitutional right. We demand their immediate release and accountability for this injustice.' All India Congress Committee general secretary KC Venugopal also made similar allegations. 'UDF MPs held a strong protest outside Parliament today against the shocking arrest and harassment of Catholic nuns in Durg in Chhattisgarh. They were targeted by a violent mob despite no wrongdoing. By the BJP-RSS ecosystem, all minorities are treated as criminals and lumpen elements are unleashed to intimidate fellow citizens practising their faith. CBCI, Oppn parties slam arrest of two nuns by Chhattisgarh Police

Thiruvananthapuram: The president of the Catholics Bishop Conference of India ( CBCI) Reverend Andrews Thazhath, who is also the Metropolitan Archbishop of Thrissur, on Monday slammed the Chhattisgarh Police for arresting two nuns from Kerala and a man on accusations of alleged human trafficking and religious conversion by the Bajrang Dal. 'This has happened in a country where freedom of religion is allowed and hence this act should be seen very seriously. The nuns were attacked by the Bajrang Dal activists and none should forget that nuns always stand and work for the uplift of the downtrodden,' said Thazhath. 'Irrespective of whoever governs the country, the freedom of religion should be protected and upheld. Incidentally across the country at some places Christians are living in a state of fear. We have already brought this to the attention of our Prime Minister Modi,' added Thazhath. On Monday, lawmakers from Kerala, barring the BJP, brought the issue of the harassment of the nuns and their arrest, to the attention of the House by way of a notice for an adjournment motion, but it was disallowed. Thazhath however thanked the lawmakers for raising this issue in the Parliament. The nuns, Preeti Mary and Vandana Francis attached to the Assisi Sisters of Mary Immaculate, a congregation under the Syro-Malabar Church in Alappuzha district, were working at a hospital in Agra. On Saturday, the two nuns and the man, identified as Sukhman Mandavi, were accompanying three women from Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district to Agra, where they had been offered jobs of kitchen helpers at a Convent. At the railway station they were accosted by Bajrang Dal activists and the police also arrived on the scene. Both the nuns and the man were soon taken into custody and later produced before a local court which sent them to judicial custody. Close relatives of the two nuns are aghast at this act of jailing the hapless nuns whose only interest was the welfare of the downtrodden girls. 'This should not be seen as a one off incident, as we have been told that things do not augur well now in certain places in North India,' said the family of the nuns. The CPI-M state secretariat in a statement condemned the Chhattisgarh Police and the Railway officials and accused them of dancing to the tunes of Bajrang Dal activists. 'This issue should not just be seen as a Christian issue but also a gross violation of the Constitution as this is nothing but an intrusion on minority rights. There is every right not just to practice religion but also propagate it. Grave charges have been slapped on the arrested, this is in no way acceptable,' read the CPI-M statement. Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan said he had just spoken to the aged parents of one of the arrested nuns. 'This incident is not just a one off incident as incidence of attacking Christian nuns and priests in several states in North India are increasing by the day. It has come to a stage when Christian priests and nuns cannot even wear their official dress for fear of being attacked. This has to end quickly and authorities have to do the needful,' said Satheesan. Union Minister of State for Fisheries, George Kurian, said that since the matter was sub judice and he was a Minister, he would not make any comment on the issue. Kerala state BJP vice-president Shone George said, 'I will say that let the court take the call and if the nuns are innocent, we have made all arrangement to ensure they are safely taken back to their respective places.'
