Matthew Perry's Doctor ‘Profoundly Remorseful,' Dabs Eyes as Guilty Plea Finalized
'While Dr. Plasencia was not treating Mr. Perry at the time of his death, he hopes his case serves as a warning to other medical professionals and leads to stricter oversight and clear protocols for the rapidly growing at-home ketamine industry in order to prevent future tragedies like this one,' Plasencia's lawyer, Karen L. Goldstein, said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

The lawyer added that he was 'profoundly remorseful' for the role he played in the Perry's death while he appeared in court. According to the report, 'Plasencia dabbed his face repeatedly with a cloth' as prosecutors detailed the charges against him. The paper also noted that the physician plans to relinquish his medical license within the next 30 to 45 days.
Last month, Plasencia, who is one of five people who have been charged in Perry's October 2023 death, agreed to plead guilty to distributing ketamine to the 'Friends' star. Plasencia now faces up to 40 years in prison after he was charged with four counts of ketamine distribution, including conspiracy to distribute ketamine and other related offenses. He will remain out on bail until his sentencing hearing which is scheduled for Dec. 3. His Calabasas-based urgent care clinic remains open but now requires patients to sign waivers acknowledging the charges against him.
He is the fourth person to plead guilty in regard to Perry's death. The others are Dr. Mark Chavez, the actor's personal assistant Kenneth Iwamasa and 'street dealer' Erik Fleming. Jasveen Sangha (a.k.a. 'The Ketamine Queen') has pleaded not guilty and is headed to trial in August.
Perry was found dead in his hot tub on Oct. 28, 2023. His cause of death was ruled a ketamine overdose with drowning as a factor. He was 54.The post Matthew Perry's Doctor 'Profoundly Remorseful,' Dabs Eyes as Guilty Plea Finalized appeared first on TheWrap.

DOJ says UCLA violated civil rights law with ‘indifference' towards protecting Jewish and Israeli students
The Department of Justice (DOJ) said Tuesday the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) violated civil rights laws by acting with 'indifference' towards attacks on Israeli and Jewish students. In a press release, the DOJ said that its Civil Rights Division on Tuesday 'announced that the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by acting with deliberate indifference in creating a hostile educational environment for Jewish and Israeli students.' 'Our investigation into the University of California system has found concerning evidence of systemic anti-Semitism at UCLA that demands severe accountability from the institution,' Attorney General Pam Bondi said in the release. 'This disgusting breach of civil rights against students will not stand: DOJ will force UCLA to pay a heavy price for putting Jewish Americans at risk and continue our ongoing investigations into other campuses in the UC system,' she added. The Hill has reached out to UCLA and the UC system for comment. UCLA recently agreed to pay over $6 million in a consent agreement in the wake of Jewish faculty and students bringing an antisemitism lawsuit against the university due to its handling of pro-Palestinian campus demonstrations. Last year, pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses erupted across the U.S. over Israel's war in Gaza. Protestors faced accusations of antisemitism amid an already heated political climate on the issue of Israel and Palestine as the war in Gaza raged on. The leading international authority on food crisis said Tuesday via an alert that the worst-case scenario of famine was occurring in the Gaza Strip, with death and destruction of infrastructure also widespread in the territory.

Taylor Swift Keeps Wearing This Belt Brand—and So Do All Your Favorite Celebs
When Travis Kelce went Instagram official with Taylor Swift last week, eagle-eyed fans everywhere zoomed in for a closer look at that phone background. I, on the other hand, clocked a different detail. Taylor was wearing B-Low the Belt yet again. This belt brand isn't new to fashion insiders. In fact, it's been featured in the glossy pages of ELLE Magazine on several occasions. But as more style stars step out in B-Low the Belt (and as Swift continues to don her ever-growing collection), I figured it was time to let you in on the industry secret. As I said, it really is one of Taylor Swift's go-to accessories that she reaches for time and time again. She's been photographed wearing at least three different styles. Selena Gomez, Emily Ratajkowski, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Sydney Sweeney, Sofia Richie Grainge, Florence Pugh, Charli XCX, and Alix Earle are also fans of the woman-owned brand. I'll own up to the fact that I'm not much of a belt wearer, but even I can recognize the transformative power of a good-quality belt. One quick cinch of the waist, and your look is completely elevated. And you and I both know—when Swift does something, the world will follow suit. The Los Angeles-based brand is shoppable online, at Revolve, Nordstrom, and Anthropologie. Below, browse my curated edit of the best styles to shop now. UCLA ends antisemitism lawsuit with $6 million settlement
The University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA) has agreed to pay more than $6 million in a consent agreement after Jewish faculty and students brought an antisemitism lawsuit against the school over its handling of pro-Palestinian campus demonstrations. The lawsuit was brought by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty last year after the encampments cropped up at the university that spring and a video went viral of a Jewish student who was blocked from entering a certain part of campus. The university will pay $6.13 million, with the funds going to the plaintiffs and various organizations that work to combat antisemitism. 'We are pleased with the terms of today's settlement. The injunction and other terms UCLA has agreed to demonstrate real progress in the fight against antisemitism,' the university and plaintiffs said in a joint statement. According to the Becket Fund, the agreement is the largest private settlement in a campus antisemitism case. A judge will have to sign off on the deal, which also includes a permanent court order forbidding UCLA from excluding Jewish students and faculty on campus. The agreement comes months after UCLA began its Initiative to Combat Antisemitism. 'When antisemites were terrorizing Jews and excluding them from campus, UCLA chose to protect the thugs and help keep Jews out,' said Yitzchok Frankel, a recent UCLA Law graduate. 'That was shameful, and it is sad that my own school defended those actions for more than a year. But today's court judgment brings justice back to our campus and ensures Jews will be safe and be treated equally once again.'
