LOOK: Around 3,000 runners take part in Caerphilly 10K race
This year marked a significant milestone for the event, highlighting its growing popularity and strong community support.
Around 2,000 runners took on the 10K route, which winds through the town centre past iconic landmarks including the Tommy Cooper statue, giant cheese sculpture, and Caerphilly Castle.
The course remains a favourite with runners of all levels thanks to its fast, friendly layout.
The 2K run, held earlier in the morning, was another highlight, with local schools, community groups, and sports clubs taking part in large numbers.
Councillor Sean Morgan, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: "It's been a fantastic day, it was an absolute party all around the course.
"So good to see both runners and spectators enjoying this great event.
"Seeing both events sell out for the first time is a credit to the Sport and Leisure Team and brings us even closer to a cost-neutral event.
"With ever-constrained budgets, it is essential this council thinks outside the box to deliver and be sustainable for the future."
Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, added: "The Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K and 2K are brilliant events for the community.
"It's a proud moment to see so many people getting involved, whether they were running, volunteering or cheering from the sidelines."
Organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council, the event is supported by headline sponsor Bryn Meadows Golf, Hotel & Spa, car partner Griffin Mill and wider partners Welsh Athletics and Llamau.
The next Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K and 2K will take place on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Entries are now open, with prices frozen at the current standard rate until September 30, 2025.

'Blackwood's sporting future looks bright'
The recent Blackwood Beach Party drew more than 5,500 visitors to the town. The event was funded by Blackwood Town Council and organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council. The success of the event can be measured in that it attracted 2,000 more visitors than the previous weekend. It resulted in the second busiest day of the year in the town. We all know that the ease and attractiveness of online shopping can have a negative impact on physical retail. Yet, the importance of our shared spaces is integral to our sense of community that. Blackwood's sporting future looks bright. I was delighted to see the South Wales Argus cover Blackwood Primary School's annual sports presentation. Ninety-seven pupils were recognised from years three to six who have represented the school in competitions throughout the academic year. It was great to see the school become champions of the entire South East Wales cricket finals organised by Cricket Wales. Let's hope that one day some of these talented youngsters may have the opportunity of playing regional representative cricket and, who knows, even for Wales' professional cricket team, Glamorgan. I was delighted to sponsor at the Senedd a celebration of Welsh creativity. Curated under the theme "Create It", TEDx Bute Street 2025 showcased an exceptional roster of individuals shaping the future of activism, arts, technology, and cultural discourse. The selection process, overseen by a distinguished judging panel - Professor Dylan Jones-Evans OBE, Matthew Hyde, and Chris J Birch - was a rigorous journey through compelling stories and pioneering thought, ultimately culminating in an unmissable line up of Welsh visionaries. Ken Skates has announced that from September 2025 bus fares will be capped for £1 for 16 to 21 year olds, while the £1 cap will come in place in November for five to 15 year olds. Sixteen to 21-year-olds will need to apply for a free mytravelpass, if they don't currently have one, and are able to do so now. More information on how the scheme will work is available at mytravelpass - Caerphilly County Borough Council announced the official opening of a new dual use 3G all-weather pitch at Risca School and Leisure Centre, funded by the Welsh Government's Community Focused Schools capital grant programme. Situated on an education and community campus, the new facility will benefit pupils at Risca Community Comprehensive School during the day and serve the wider community during evenings and weekends. New 3G pitch complete at Caerphilly sporting excellence hub
The previous surface at he Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach had reached the end of its lifespan. The investment in the new facility is part of Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy. The renewed pitch enhances the overall quality of the site and strengthens its position as a Level 3 strategic facility for both club and community use. Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: 'The improved pitch ensures we continue to provide the best possible environment for local clubs, schools and professional teams to thrive. "It shows how serious we are about delivering high quality, sustainable facilities across the county borough.' The centre is used by local sports clubs, school teams and college learners. Coleg y Cymoedd students regularly use it as part of their sporting and educational development, and Dragons RFC has renewed its long-term commitment to the site as its primary training base. New 3G pitch officially opened at Risca Leisure Centre
Located at Risca School and Leisure Centre, the facility will serve both Risca Community Comprehensive School students during the day and the wider community in the evenings and on weekends. Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: "This development reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, accessible facilities that support both education and lifelong participation in sport. "The 3G pitch enhances our ability to deliver the aims of the sport and active recreation strategy, ensuring that more people can enjoy the benefits of physical activity close to home." The floodlit pitch replaces the previous AstroTurf surface and is designed to accommodate both football and rugby. Its durable artificial surface allows for year-round use by schools, clubs, and community groups. The project supports Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019–2029 and forms part of the authority's wider Place Shaping programme. Councillor Carol Andrews, cabinet member for education and communities, said: "This facility is an excellent example of how we can maximise the use of school sites for the benefit of both learners and the wider community. "It is a clear demonstration of our Place Shaping principles in action, creating shared spaces that improve education, health, and community wellbeing." The pitch was funded through the Welsh Government's Community Focused Schools capital grant programme. It is part of a broader investment in modern, accessible sports infrastructure across the borough. The 3G surface is designed to handle frequent use and provide a safe environment for a range of sports and activities.
