Carpenter addressed this in her recent Rolling Stone cover story, saying, 'They're like, 'All she does is sing about this.' But those are the songs that you've made popular.' She added, 'Clearly you love sex. You're obsessed with it. It's in my show.'

In the same interview, she emphasised the importance of not letting headlines shape her confidence. 'I find irony and humour in all of that,' she said, adding that the only pressure she feels is 'to be funny sometimes.'
