BJP slams Bengal CM for visiting
While speaking to ANI, LoP Suvendu Adhikari said, 'It is a tourist spot (Digha Jagannath temple). She (Mamata Banerjee) has gone there for leisure...Puri Dham is the real Dham of Lord Jagannath...'
He further mentioned that lakhs of people are expected to participate in the processions for the Rath Yatra, just as lakhs of people participated in the Ram Navami celebration held in April, which was mired in controversy.
'At least 10,000 big processions of Rath Yatra will be taken out in every corner of West Bengal tomorrow, in which 50 lakh Hindus will participate,' he said.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the Jagannath temple in Digha to review preparations for the upcoming Rath Yatra. During her visit, she stated that the temple had become a prominent pilgrimage site.
'Lord Jagannath temple has become a major place of pilgrimage. The Rath Yatra will be held on a 1 km route from 9 am to 4 pm tomorrow. The aarti will be performed at 2.30 pm. Our ministerial team has arrived here for this,' the Chief Minister said.
Announcing that the yatra for the state will start from the Digha temple, the CM said, 'I extend heartfelt greetings and best wishes to everyone in advance for Rath Yatra. I pray that, by the grace of Lord Jagannath, everyone's life may be filled with prosperity. With joy, I announce that we are starting the Rath Yatra at Digha's Jagannath Dham this time as well. Thousands of people from across the country and abroad will participate in it. I, too, will join the people in Digha this time to pull the ropes of the chariot.'
The Rs 250 crore temple in Digha, constructed over 20 acres, was inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on April 30, 2025. The temple, inspired by the 12th-century Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, houses the same deities.
The Digha temple has been the centre of controversy multiple times, as BJP and BJD leaders, along with spiritual gurus, earlier objected to the naming of the Digha temple as 'Jagannath Dham,' arguing that the term is traditionally reserved for the 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha.
During the festival, devotees draw the grand chariots of the three deities -- Lord Jagannath, his brother Lord Balabhadra, and sister goddess Subhadra -- to the Gundicha Temple, where the deities reside for a week and then return to the Jagannath Temple. The Rath Yatra ceremony is expected to attract a large crowd, making traffic management a key issue. (ANI)

AAP will contest Bihar polls, says Avrind Kejriwal; BJP reminds him of Delhi rout
After a decent show in the Gujarat and Punjab bypolls, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced that his party would now contest the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled to take place by the end of this year. Addressing a press conference in Gujarat's Gandhinagar, Kejriwal also clarified that AAP will fight the Bihar elections solo and that his party's tie with the Opposition's INDIA bloc was only for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. advertisement"We will contest the upcoming Bihar elections. There is no alliance with Congress. That is why we contested separately in the Visavadar bypoll. The INDIA bloc was only for the general elections. There is no alliance now," the former Chief Minister said. Reacting to Kejriwal's plans, the BJP, which is in power along with the Janata Dal (United) in Bihar, questioned the AAP chief's political relevance beyond Punjab. "Biharis and Purvanchalis shaved off Arvind Kejriwal's head in Delhi and drove him out of Delhi, but that was not enough for him. How much will you use Punjab's ATM? Punjab is already drowning in debt," BJP national spokesperson Ajay Alok said in Patna."If Kejriwal comes to Bihar, he will understand his political standing. Welcome to Bihar," he added. advertisementKejriwal's renewed push for expansion comes after AAP candidates won the Visavadar and Ludhiana Assembly seats in Gujarat and Punjab last month — a small but symbolic victory that came as a morale booster for the party still reeling from setbacks in its home turf, this year, the Aam Aadmi Party suffered a major setback as it lost its hold over the national capital, paving the way for the BJP to return to power in Delhi after nearly 27 years. In the Delhi Assembly polls, the AAP failed to retain several crucial seats — including those held by Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bhardwaj and Kejriwal, who built his political career on the back of Delhi's municipal and Assembly triumphs, the defeat dealt a significant blow to his core support this, the party has kept its hold in Punjab, where it continues to run the state government, and its recent win in Gujarat has encouraged the AAP to test the waters in Bihar, a state known for its complex caste arithmetic and entrenched political leaders.- EndsMust Watch

The footage sparked concerns about the integrity of the opposition BJP was quick to slam the survey, calling it a 'bogus' and deceptive process. The party questioned the intent and credibility of the enumeration, which aims to collect data on SC households across the state. advertisementBJP spokesperson Ashok Gowda said enumerators were pasting stickers indiscriminately, even on homes that clearly do not belong to Scheduled Caste families. 'In areas like Girinagar, BTM Layout, Shantinagar, they are sticking the stickers even for a Brahmin's house, a Vokkaliga's house, a Lingayat's house, an OBC house or even a minority house. What will be the authenticity of this survey? What is this survey going to bring out?' he to the criticism, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarified that residents also have the option of registering online, in case door-to-door enumeration is missed or flawed.'If that's the case, enroll online. Is there any problem in enrolling online? You can enrol online or when they come home. There are so many ways to enrol, we accept it,' said controversy emerges at a time when Karnataka is gearing up to undertake a more detailed caste census, in line with directions from the Congress High survey is part of a wider initiative launched by the Karnataka government on May 5, to gather empirical data on SC sub-castes, with the aim of guiding internal reservation Minister Siddaramaiah had called it essential for ensuring social justice and equitable distribution of benefits.
