Bizman dies after neck gets stuck in goods lift amid power cut

Time of India6 days ago
Meerut: A 63-year-old sports equipment manufacturer died after his neck got trapped in an "illegal" goods lift inside his workshop during a power outage in Meerut's Surajkund area on Saturday evening, police said.
Harvinder Singh was using the lift meant for transporting goods from the ground to the second floor when a power cut occurred. Police said Singh leaned out to check the situation, just as the electricity suddenly resumed, causing the lift to move abruptly and trap his neck. CCTV footage captured him stuck in the elevator for nearly 15 minutes. Factory workers managed to pull him out and rush him to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
SP (city) Ayush Vikram Singh said, "His body was sent for postmortem examination, and the autopsy reports are awaited. No complaint has been filed in the case. Further action will be taken accordingly."
A police official privy to the investigation said, "The preliminary investigation revealed that the lift was illegally installed and the building was constructed in a residential zone, where commercial activity is not permitted.

The lift didn't comply with the UP Lift Act norms." The family said the lift had been installed just ten days ago.
Harvinder Singh's family had migrated to Meerut from Sialkot, Pakistan, during Partition. He is survived by two sons. Following his death, the Sports Goods Association observed a day of mourning and kept the Surajkund market shut on Sunday.
This is not the first time a lift-related fatality has been reported in Meerut. Last year, a 28-year-old woman died after getting trapped in a hospital elevator minutes after giving birth. The hospital was later sealed for failing to meet basic safety norms.

Prajwal Revanna BENGALURU: A special court on Saturday sentenced former MP Prajwal Revanna to life imprisonment. The verdict was pronounced a day after the former parliamentarian from Hassan was found guilty of repeatedly raping his 47-year-old domestic help. Of the three rape cases and one sexual harassment case against Prajwal, this is the first to go to trial and reach a verdict. The 34-year-old grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda was once seen as a rising political star of the JD(S) first family. Special Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat announced the punishment in a packed court hall around 4.30 pm. Anaconda shooting: Montana manhunt intensifies for veteran accused after 4 killed; kin says suspect struggled with mental health issues

(Photo credit: AP) US Police continued scouring the rugged mountains of Montana on Saturday as the search for Michael Paul Brown, a 45-year-old military veteran accused of fatally shooting four people at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, entered its second day. Brown fled the scene in a white pickup truck, which was later abandoned, according to Lee Johnson of the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation. Johnson urged residents Friday night to stay indoors and remain alert. Authorities also released a photo of Brown, reportedly taken as he fled. In the image, he appears gaunt, barefoot, and dressed only in black shorts while walking down a set of outdoor concrete steps. "While law enforcement has not received reports of Brown harming any other individuals, he is believed to be armed, and he is extremely dangerous," Johnson said. The search concentrated near Stumptown Road, west of Anaconda, involving multiple agencies at ground level and in the air. Local businesses were permitted to operate, though Chief Bill Sather advised vigilance. Victim identifications await family notifications. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Johnson emphasised the impact on the community: "This is a small, tight-knit community that has been harmed by the heinous actions of one individual who does not represent what this community or Montanans stand for." The bar owner, David Gwerder, confirmed Brown lived adjacent to the establishment. The victims included the bartender and three customers. "He knew everybody that was in that bar. I guarantee you that," Gwerder told the Associated Press. "He didn't have any running dispute with any of them. I just think he snapped." Brown's military service included Army deployment to Iraq (2004-2005) and Montana National Guard service until March 2009, reaching sergeant rank. His niece, Clare Boyle, indicated Brown's ongoing mental health challenges: "This isn't just a drunk/high man going wild," she said via Facebook. "It's a sick man who doesn't know who he is sometimes and frequently doesn't know where or when he is either." As authorities lifted the Stumptown Road lockdown, retired officer Randy Clark observed helicopter surveillance and ground operations. Local businesses had earlier implemented security measures, with owners and customers sheltering inside. Anaconda, situated 25 miles northwest of Butte with approximately 9,000 residents, was established by copper industry magnates in the late 1800s. A defunct smelter stack remains prominent in the valley.

Delhi Police bans use of aerial platforms ahead of Independence Day celebrations

The order said that such aerial platforms may pose a threat to public safety, VIPs, and critical installations in Delhi during the sensitive period around August 15. This is Singh's first order as the new Delhi Police Commissioner. According to the order, flying aerial devices such as paragliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), UASs (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), microlight aircraft, hot air balloons, small-sized powered aircraft, quadcopters, and remotely piloted aircraft has been banned under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh on Saturday ordered a ban on sub-conventional aerial platforms across the national capital from August 2 to August 16 in view of security preparations related to the upcoming Independence Day. The ban is aimed at preventing their possible misuse by anti-social and terrorist elements, including for para-jumping or launching airborne attacks. The prohibition will remain in force for 15 days, starting from August 2 and ending on August 16, unless withdrawn earlier, the order said. Security agencies are already on high alert across the capital as preparations for the 78th Independence Day event at the Red Fort are underway.
